UNPLUGGED (Episode 298)

hi everybody it's what right away do we want to check if it's actually
recording
or does it matter i'm just worried about that it doesn't matter it doesn't
matter
and how would we check how would we stop it we would pause it and then play the
video back
i've done i've done extensive testing oh how much squeaking are we going to get
a lot squeaking
i'll get the wd form
uh well let me just say it's it's a office hours live episode what episode is
this we don't know
to getting too high 292 98. and uh we're on we are uh not live we are unplugged
we are all
spread out across the world um i'm in new york vick is in los angeles producer
matt is in los angeles
doug lucenhop is in london but we wanted to keep our train rolling here and do
an episode so i want
to do one of those you know there's all these shitty podcasts out there where
it's just a bunch of
uh people getting together on zoom and talking i figured let's do one of those
if it's not if it's
not good we can say it's a parody of one of those
what if it's our biggest episode yet it puts us into the stratosphere oh that
would be awesome
well doug first of all let me start with you because good horning to you but it
can't be morning
it can't be good afternoon because it is five it's 5 10 p.m here in london it's
a sunny beautiful day
everyone was out in the park i rented a bike and rode around had a nice little
afternoon before we
started the recording how's the european jaunt been uh the shows have been
great uh crazy wild energy at
the shows um i've been well received one guy um one guy there was like one show
where there was like a
guy and and uh he was getting into a fight and he was heckling me and people
were grabbing him and i
was trying to like con i was trying to continue my my set but then there was
this big commotion and
they're throwing this guy out so um that was fun jesus what was he saying i
really don't know he
was just like yelling stuff you know people think it's a wild show so you can
you can yell stuff some
a lot of the crowds were a lot of the crowds were very attentive and and
energetic you know they uh
maybe some crowds don't know what to do at a comedy show or something or they
think it's
eric andre shows so they can go wild how are you finding these european cities
you must be in love
oh yeah man i mean berlin is probably my top city so far nice i like i was
thinking of these english i
was thinking of you are awesome i was thinking of you seeing you in berlin and
i'm like god that's got to
be doug's like sweet spot right there it was the crowd was like extended
clapping like after like you
know what i mean like extended like applause breaks which i never which are
rare you know people laugh
but like right after a bit they would like applaud so that was yeah the crowd
was great there it's a
really cool city a lot of any city that you can bike around i like and i like
the english cities a lot so
far um bristol was really nice yeah you've been there right yeah bristol i feel
like is that the one
in the church vic i think it was yeah i remember i think that was one of those
shows where we just got
there and like hunkered down and just bared through it and then left i don't
think we did saw the city
at all yeah there's a few shows like that where it's like date you know a show
and then the next
day is another show after traveling all day we're like let's just get through
this so we're all kind
of just yeah chilling before exploring saving up your energy for the for the
show right a lot of that going on
well i have um vic what's up with you oh well this is exciting like outside my
studio there's a a little
bird building a nest so i've been watching that it's like right above the that's
big yeah the motion
timer light uh but i'm a little concerned because it's it was like gone for
like five it was here for
like a few weeks and i was like my buddy i'm just like looking at it that's my
safety you know right
there and then i come out and it's gone he's gone or she and uh she's gone for
like five six days and
then she's back for a night and then she's gone or or i'm wondering like are
the are do birds steal
other birds um uh yeah do they do you know what i mean like would like if
something happens just take
over just take over over it's already there like that's what i do i just wait
for someone else to do the
hard work nice swoop in literally swoop in what color is the bird it's just
like a very normal dark
kind of color blackbird singing in the dead of night yeah exactly
but that's going on did you check for eggs vic you got did you look inside i
didn't check because i
didn't want to disturb it i'm just worried i'm going to get my scent on it or
something we have the same
thing outside our front door and first i was like i'm going to get this stinking
nest out of here
because it's like making a mess right outside the front door oh my god yeah but
then i put my camera
in eggs and now a little baby little baby birds in there yeah they could have
been really bad if you
killed those things so i know i checked so i checked for eggs there might be
little and there might be
baby birds in there right well should i give you my snl rundown yeah i want to
hear about this
yeah went to the big show last night uh by b uh via the guest anyway uh a guest
how would i say this matt uh
uh you were a guest i went to snl i guess that was not the guest uh sarah sherman
sarah squirm
i'm here in new york i said i wrote her i said uh i'm in town for a little
while she says well you
want to come to the show i said it is fun to go to the show it is fun i don't
like the show but it is
fun to go to the show i told her that i said i don't like the show but it is
fun to go to the show
so she said um well you should definitely come would you would you hate it if
you watched it from my
dressing room he said no that sounds like a neat experience because well it's i
guess that's the
thing i didn't realize that's a thing there's like the friends of the cast they
go and hang in the
dressing room uh and the dressing room so i get there i go by myself and i run
into a couple people
that she knows that are there to also be in the dressing room and they're
immediately like people
we would dig you know they're friends of sarah's friends of john early's they
know me we get hit it
off then some other friends of ours show up uh patty harrison's up in there uh
hannah einbinder is up in that dressing room she's cool megan uh you gotta get
her on the show
looks like girl megan that she's friends with i'm talking about megan meg statler
statler statler
was she there stalter no no no so but then you know you're just sitting in this
you're like there's
like seven or eight of us sitting in this small dressing room watching the show
on tv because you're
just close circuit tv right yeah um but you know uh james austin johnson is
next door i see him it's very
sweet we talked for a little bit um but then this guy one of the writers of the
show comes over
and he's like hey uh tim hannah do you want to come i'll give you a big tour so
he during the show
he starts leading us down the hallways he leads us into the writer's room i go
into the writer's room
there's like 50 of all the writers are in there watching the show including
those uh please don't
destroy us gents right all those the whole squad's in there with pizzas
everyone's like hey how's it
going how you doing how you doing and you know uh but then they walk then he
goes let's go this way
he walks us out onto the floor right on the sides of the stage where they're
doing the weekend update
oh my god i walked i'm sorry he's like here here stand right here and they're
like 30 feet away while
they're doing the weekend update and i take my phone out to put the silencer on
right to go
to go turn the ringer off to because like i didn't i didn't know i was going to
be like on the floor
so i go to take my phone out my phone flies out of my hand and hits this metal
thing behind it
and people turn and look like we should find the show and see if uh see if you
can hear it but
i'm with hannah einbinder and she's um she's jewish and i think she very is
like very identifies
as jewish okay like cares about it i don't know if he's religious or whatever
but these guys this
michael che they do this thing where they swap jokes do you know about this
thing they do where
like they write jokes for the other person right to say and they do this whole
they bring this rabbi
out this woman and they start doing all these jewish jokes but then at the last
and some of them
are it's like you get you know they're it's like edgy but then they bring out
this jewish rabbi puppet
that's like full you gotta look it up it's like full like uh nazi propaganda
jewish stereotype
looking rabbi puppet
and it does not play in the room it's like this spot like this isn't this is
very uncomfortable and
so we're just like all right well let's go back upstairs it was really
uncomfortable
oh here it is you guys want to see it you want to take a lexie i maybe you know
i don't know how it
played on tv but boy it played real weird in the room oh my god look see it
yeah and they're making
jokes about like you know of mbc told msnbc to curb their criticism of israel
and and if they don't
anyway keep it together with our space lasers i mean at least they didn't have
like a big old nose on
it i guess it could have been yeah yeah could have been worse yeah then we went
down to uh we went
back out then we went they were brought we were brought down to then go go in
and watch the musical
act now i don't i never heard of this musical act before uh amanda carpenter
sabrina carpenter sabrina carpenter she didn't like her yeah she's pretty good
oh that sucks
there's nothing good about that vic come on it's just pure i mean whatever it's
just like pure
disney pop but yeah it's yeah it's not good but i got yelled at again because i
took a i was there i
i took a picture and this big security guy no picture what you doing man like i
don't know i
thought if you're this is big live on tv what's the difference who cares not in
like the situation
room right so and then it was just uh the thing with this show you know matt
you've been to these
before you go to this uh you gotta it's like the show ends and then you're
hanging out there for a
while we're talking all you know it's so cute um james came james did a really
he did a really funny
sketch at the very end that is worth looking up called snake eyes and it's he
made me he made me
really laugh i mean that guy's really funny so uh but we're just hanging out in
the hallway after the
after the show and we're just doing trump bits together like i'm feeding him we're
trading off you
know i'm giving him things to talk about like trump what do you think about my
morning jacket my morning
jacket you know he's just talking about jim james you gotta like jim james and
his beard
monster like just doing really obscure references in trump voice but this is
funny he just goes and
goes and goes he can't stop it and uh then you go to the party and sell some
people there everybody
yeah i'll tell you guys i mean not a lot of people know office hours but boy do
they know me
boy do they know me
what was the after party like yeah where was it i always heard these things are
the big deal
talk of the town well it was at uh it's right there rockefeller center at the rink
so i think
because it was the season finale i think maybe they don't do it there every
week but
it was right there out there on the ice skating rink but there was no ice you
know i didn't need to bring
my skates but i saw john hams there i said hello to john ham you know uh edgar
wright i see uh and then
some of the cast members who i didn't know bow and yang bow and yang was like
boy he was kissing my ring
he was like this this guy big fan who's bowing yang bow and bow and yang he's a
big breakout star
on the show vick you should team up with john ham and you can do hamburger we
