Jason Schwartzman, Nathan Silver & Cindy Silver, Delicate Steve (Episode 307)

I like having fun, I like to laugh, I like to meet people who can make me laugh,
I like
having fun, yes I like to laugh, I like having fun.
Good morning everybody, hi, how are you, Tim Heidecker here, welcome to Office
Hours Live,
it is 10am here on the west coast, just getting some other information for you,
quickly here,
August 22nd it turns out, we are nearing the end of the summer, nearing the end
of the
summer, nearing the end of the summer, nearing the end of the summer, it's the
end, I'm nearing
the end of the summer, Vic, that could be the beginning of a great musical, oh
I love it,
we're nearing the end of the summer, have you heard the news, we're nearing the
end
of the summer, I don't like to hear that news, it's been such fun, it's been,
it's been one
heck of a summer, have you heard the news, school's back in town, it's been, it's
been, we could
read the music, let's just do it now, let's do the musical right now, ready?
I saw the musical the other night, mmm, spilling coffee everywhere, Tim, it's a
mess here.
Welcome back Vic, Doug, Lucenhop is in the house, DJ Doug Powell!
Oh good horning!
Oh shit!
They don't, they don't stand like horns to me mate, they don't stand like horns
to me.
Piss!
Piss!
Piss!
Piss!
Um, could I have a napkin if anybody has a napkin or a tissue?
Alicia?
Um, and more coffee please.
What do you got?
Could I have Tim louder?
I can't hear Tim at all.
I don't want you to hear me.
There's nothing for you to hear.
Luki baby, could I have a little more Tim in my ears?
And this is a big day here, unfortunately we have to say goodbye to a member of
the team.
Tim is the kind of person who should be in politics.
Politics.
Alright, why don't we come, why don't we first of all get this over with.
Wait, I didn't get to say hi yet.
Oh yes.
Let's say and thank Alicia, Alicia, at least forget the shit, Alicia.
That's what I've been saying, but then I have a self-doubt.
I'm always doubting myself.
But come over here for a minute, you have been with us now how many months?
Several months.
Yeah, like six, six.
Six months.
Maybe.
And it's time for you to move on.
Not on my, not because of, I've requested this.
This is not something we wish for, but it is life itself that has to happen for
you.
Not forever.
It's time for you to move.
So thank you.
Thank you.
And you've enjoyed your time here.
Yep.
We appreciate all your work and your news updates.
We'll check in with you throughout the day.
But let's hear it for Alicia, who goes on to bright, a bright future.
God bless.
Now get out of here.
I can get my fucking phone.
I thought that was nice.
That was very nice.
Good luck on Kill Tony.
Is that what she's doing?
She's a new intern on Kill Tony.
Oh God.
Huawei.
She gets his cigarettes, empties the ashtrays there for Tony.
Are they all smoking on stage up there?
Oh, they look so smoking.
Can you imagine the smell of him?
Listen, I do want to welcome Vic Berger back.
Oh yeah.
I just want to try, Luke, could you just make some echo?
I just want to loud echo so I can, so you can hear the slurping.
What zip everybody?
I feel like I'm distorted.
I love that he didn't listen to you.
Vic, I mean, Luke, ignore his request.
Don't, don't.
Oh, this is double.
That's a bad echo.
Ba-ba-ba-ba.
Oh my God.
What are you, Elvis?
I know.
You want echo or reverb?
Give us a good clean.
There, that, that.
Everybody.
It's so loud in my ears.
I like this.
Okay, ready?
What zip everybody?
See?
I know what I'm doing.
Still going.
Let me tell you, we don't have time for that.
We have a great show today.
We have Nathan Silver from the writer and director of Between the Temples
from Sony Pictures Classics.
Wow.
Calling in, starring the great Jason Schwartzman.
Hey, guys.
And Carol Kane.
Not Carol King.
Carol Kane.
Carol Kane.
Who's from?
Taxi.
And Hannah, no, what's the Woody Allen movie?
Hannah and her sisters?
No, the one that won all the awards.
Annie Hall.
She's in Annie Hall.
Oh, that's right.
She's very good in that.
She's the girlfriend that takes, no.
Yeah, she's not the, no.
She's the one that he meets at a political fundraiser.
Right.
And then he stops, he starts to become obsessed with the Kennedy assassination.
Why did I turn my, why, why?
Yeah, he has a whole thing.
Right away, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's no longer attracted to her.
He's like, oh, tell me something new.
Tell me something to get me on stage.
He's like, I think you're cute.
Yeah.
And then he kills.
He kills.
Wonderful moment.
Good for them.
Good for Woody.
Ladies and gentlemen, leaders in the woods.
By Sunday afternoon, I'm going to be eastbound on a jet heading to New York.
We're going to be--
Speaking of Woody, I'm actually staying with Woody and Soon-Yi.
Staying in a guest house.
And that's happening.
He's going to be coming to the show and jamming on the clarinet with me.
Central Park.
He's going to be doing all my songs together.
I'm getting him the sheet music for that now.
The lead sheets.
Yeah.
He's got him up there.
Playing a little When I Get Up.
Oh, yeah.
But that's happening Tuesday night, free show in Central Park.
Me and the very good band.
Not Vic.
No.
Not coming on this run.
No.
I'm in the very great band.
And that's happening Tuesday.
It's a free show with Schnailmail.
It stinks.
Schnailmail.
No, just my hair.
Yeah, but also it's down.
And...
The blue spotlight.
I was actually a musician.
What are you doing?
I hate when you guys just sort of--
I'm not doing that.
Is that me?
It's like you're organizing your--
No, that's not mine.
No, that's not mine.
It's like you're just listening to seeing--
No, that's not mine.
You're just sound checking.
Oh, my God.
I see this online sometimes about the show.
They go, "I miss the old days when it was just all the technical problems."
And there you go.
There's your little bit of nostalgia.
Yeah.
Careful what you wish for, you know?
Hung-ee-oh, hung-ee-oh, hung-ee-oh, hung-ee-oh, hung-ee-oh, hung-ee-oh, hung-ee-oh,
hung-ee-oh.
What?
That was very, very pleasant.
Wow.
That was pleasant.
Like I say, every week we gotta sing more.
No, I just wanna bring this up because obviously during this DNC we're getting
a lot of Tim drops.
Right, boys?
Yes, I already did.
I already did a pretty good one.
I would assume through--
And a Doug drop.
And a Doug drop, of course.
We got Doug Emhoff, and Tim Walls, and Bridges, John Lennon album.
Doug.
And I just wanna make sure that we're not gonna, that we're not going overboard
with it.
Of course, I'm a big fan of it when Obama, I was the first person to post that
when Obama
comes out and says, "Tim's the kind of guy made for politics."
Tim is the kind of person who should be in politics.
Tim?
Tim is the kind of guy who should be in politics.
Tim is the kind--
Oh, what am I, Josh Shapiro?
Have you heard this Josh?
I've talked about this.
This Josh Shapiro is like doing a bad Obama impression.
It's so weird.
Look.
We have the ability to change.
That's not good.
We have, we gotta get out and do the hope.
Do the hope?
Do the hope, everybody.
We gotta go.
People work hard.
It's not gonna be easy.
You should do a dance called The Hope.
Let's do the hope.
What would that look like?
How do you, how do you dance hope?
What is that?
You kind of go like this?
Speaking of dancing, that video of Matt Friend with Bill Maher.
We should bring that up for a second.
Oh, my God.
Just bring the show down.
Well, we'll talk about that later in the show.
Let's get into that.
By the way, we also have Delicate Steve playing music for us later.
It's gonna be terrific.
American woman, listen what I see.
Yeah, and we're gonna show, by the way, we're gonna show that, we're gonna talk
about this in a minute.
Sorry, I'm just having fun over here.
We're having fun over here.
The Matt Friend Bill Maher Alliance, which is huge news for Bill.
Yeah, exactly.
Great news for Matt, too.
Our Matt.
New broadcast coming in from the Bill Maher Rant Club Random Studios.
I've got a lot of thoughts on that.
This is good stuff.
This is Vic's favorite.
Here he is.
I love this.
Are we doing it now?
I'm just showing his picture.
Okay.
I truly don't have much against Matt.
I just, I don't have much against Matt Friend, but this, uh, if I had him on
the show, I would sit him down and I'd give him some advice about what he
should be doing.
And it's certainly not aligning with Bill Maher.
It seems like the wrong move.
Yeah, you don't want to, yeah, you don't want to align with somebody who's 40
years older than you.
His set does look like our old set, though.
A little bit.
Yeah, he went with those Carson curtains.
It looks nice.
And the clouds.
Let me take a hotliner because we do want to keep on schedule today because we're
going to speak to Nathan and his mom a little early on the show today.
Our old friend Cowboy Nat. We haven't heard from him in a very long time.
What?
He was an OG favorite.
Hi.
Sucky sucky.
Hello, cowboy.
Mommy.
Hello.
Nice to see you guys.
How are you?
Well, I'm just saying hi.
Um, Tim, I don't know if you remember, we met in London like a year and a half
ago.
Yeah.
Rough trade.
Yeah, of course.
How could I forget?
You said, you said call in and I haven't for a while.
So I, I mean, yeah, I've been listening, but not calling in.
I have a sort of update.
It's kind of fun.
Great.
Um, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've been working on my plays and everything.
And one's been published.
Yes.
We have a published playwright in the house.
What an intellectual crowd we have.
What's it called?
What's it called?
It's called in Everglades studio and it's about seventies rock and roll
actually.
So you might, you might see some things you like in there.
Well, it's a time I remember quite well, you know, great days and they should
be more plays
about that period of time.
A lot of people go to see, you know, they will see guys like me on the stage.
Can I, I want to play the record producer, you know, there is a part like that.
There, there is one, you know, just that.
So it's published as a, as a, something you could get it.
What's that place called where you buy plays?
Samuel French.
Samuel French.
What?
What?
What's this about?
Samuel French is like where you go to buy play by the books of plays.
You can't just get that out of the bookstore.
Sure.
You can not, but it's a specialized store.
Where's Samuel French at?
Where's the nearest location?
There's one right by the guitar center in the West Hollywood.
Oh really?
Yeah.
I'd be there.
Yeah.
I'd be.
But so has it gone up on stage yet?
Have you, has, has it been produced?
Well, I'm a man, we did three weeks.
And we did the first last year.
And then.
Sorry, sorry.
Stop.
Stop.
Stop.
That's okay.
We had technical difficulties.
All right?
Yeah.
You know how we, you know how we go.
You know how we roll.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Is this French music?
Yeah.
I got another one coming up from September.
Is this Samuel French?
Yes.
The name of this drop is French music.
I wasn't about French.
He's a stinking French slut.
What a mess.
Ugh.
All right.
Well, congratulations.
We look forward to seeing that up on the stage under the footlights, as they
say.
Yeah.
And if anyone's in London in September, I got another one on from the 26th to
the 14th.
The new play.
New play.
Brand new play.
What's the title of that play?
Because we just can't have people randomly going to plays to see if it's yours.
Yeah.
Come to London and go to a play.
Why not?
I'm just going all around and going to plays.
And if it's his, it's his.
That's all right.
What's it called, mate?
It's called Port City Signature.
All right.
Well, here's a bad connection.
We apologize.
Kind of like it.
God save the kings.
Here we go.
Sorry.
That's my fault.
It is your fault.
No, it's the British system.
Yeah.
Their infrastructure is collapsing because of Brexit.
It's true.
Yeah.
It's called Port City Signature.
It's kind of like a Coen Brothers noir type thing.
Oh, cool.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, congratulations.
Good to see you again.
I always love playwrights, you know, being in my, the core of my audi
