No Big Guests, Hayden Pedigo (Ep 345)

Oh, boy, everybody.
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much.
The boys are in Glendale and I'm on the road.
Welcome to Office Hours Live.
I'm your host, Tim Heidecker.
We are back from our little summer break.
Yeah.
Sort of.
Oh, come on.
Worm nerds in the dirt.
Shaboom, shaboom.
Worm nerds in the dirt.
Worm nerds in the dirt.
The pound is in town.
The pound is in town.
Good horning.
Good horning.
Good horning.
Wow.
Okay.
And VB4 representing the right side of my vision.
Hello, everybody.
Coming in from the right.
Woke up to a dead car.
You got to say, what's it?
What happened with you?
I get this.
Yeah.
Bullshit.
I get it.
I just don't take care of my vehicles.
Text this morning from you.
It needed a new battery.
Oh, God.
I thought I could last another week or so.
Because it was hesitating a little bit now and then.
But the lights are still going on.
So I thought it was okay.
And I don't know anything about cars.
So that's why I let it go.
And I had to take an Uber here.
So poor me.
It's such a good story, though.
You know?
Yeah, I don't have a good story with it.
It's just a depressing story.
Well, the problem with you, if I can get right into it, is.
Okay.
Oh.
I get, we get the text.
I know.
With no, with really no reason.
I mean, the text was this.
It was, Jesus Christ, my car won't start.
And now.
I was asking for help from God.
But in other words, not, sorry, guys, going to be late.
I have to figure something out.
Yeah.
Well, that's.
Regarding my transportation or, hey, can I get a hand?
Or there was just a panic.
Well, I don't like, yeah.
I don't like asking people for things, I guess.
But Doug, right away, offered to pick you up.
I know.
That's sweet.
No, I said we should cancel the show.
Yeah, I said it was canceled.
Yeah, well, you did.
And I was like, wait, he might be real serious about this.
Horror, horror, horror, horror.
But then.
I think only, only, only tech should only consist of like actionable items, you
know?
Right.
Well, that's what I think I was just.
Pure information.
Because like I was getting it, because it was going to be 50 bucks to get here,
just one way.
Well, these Uber prices are out of control.
Yeah, it's 50 bucks.
And.
You should use a Waymo car.
Get yourself here.
You don't need no.
They don't leave downtown L.A. from when I was.
Right.
Rover CEO, Dara.
Okay.
Donald Trump just wants to chime in on everything.
Kez Rasa.
Oh, my God.
What the hell?
What was that?
Well, listen, listen.
Carson is here.
I don't know how we got him.
I know he's so booked up right now with the other shows he's doing, but we're
happy to have him.
I had to move some things around, but happy to be here.
Yes, you're going to be fielding the.
We have no big guests today.
We'd like to do this tradition where we come back from a break and just catch
up with our with ourselves and our great audience.
Glad to be here.
Tremendous.
Thank you, Bruce.
Bruce is happy to be here.
I'm happy to be here.
I'm not.
Thank you.
Man, Bruce is in the news because he's got two big things happening.
They've released the trailer for the big movie coming out, the story of
Nebraska, Deliver Me From Nowhere.
And he's also coming out.
I told you guys this yesterday.
You were unaware of this news, completely ignorant to it, which was that he has
a box set coming out that it consists of.
Is it seven albums?
Seven albums that have never that he made.
Imagine this, folks.
You sit down and you make a record.
You put all my blood and sweat and tears into it.
And then we said, I don't know.
I think we ought to put this one away.
I don't feel like it's the right time for it.
I said to little Stevie.
I said to my manager, John Landau.
That's his name, Vic.
I didn't know that.
But I said, you know, it's not the right time.
So we'll just hold on to it.
We'll put it out later together.
Put them all together.
And that's what we did.
So Bruce has got seven new albums coming out tomorrow.
And it's all from like one little era before Born in the USA.
It's from.
No, it's wrong, by the way.
It says, well, it says it's between Nebraska and Born in the USA.
There's one that's like that.
And then it goes into the 90s.
And until you should.
Yeah, just do your research.
I was just reading it now.
Bullshit.
The L.A. Garage Sessions.
Streets of Philadelphia Sessions.
Are these new songs or just, are these like different versions of, you know.
I think they're all brand new.
Well, Streets of Philadelphia, that's a song.
Yeah.
Right.
Well, that was so.
Well, no.
If you remember, like Streets of Philadelphia is like drum loops.
It's like his kind of rap style, like hip-hop beats and stuff.
His hip-hop era.
Yeah, and so he made a whole album of songs like that.
Okay.
Okay.
I like Bruce's hip-hop stuff the best.
That's his favorite.
I was sitting there writing my raps.
But I would tell you, we were just on the air.
We were on our Zoom before this morning.
I don't think I've ever laughed harder in my life.
I hate to do this to you guys.
But we started talking about the band Kansas.
And I think they're playing near me.
I'm in, by the way, I'm in Bentonville, Arkansas, for some damn reason.
My wife, we were in Tokyo on Monday with the kids having a good time.
A little family vacation.
Very exciting.
If you want to hear all about it, I wrote extensively about it on the Patreon
site.
Part of my blog.
Yeah.
And how did it camp?
Oh, so I get home on Monday.
And Tuesday morning, I'm on an airplane flying through Denver on the way to
Bentonville, Arkansas, folks.
Now I'm getting excited.
Yeah, to do a movie.
And anyway, Vic was looking for stuff for me to do and found out that the band
Kansas is playing down here.
With 38 Special.
Unfortunately, we're 38 Special.
And we started getting into Kansas talk.
And we just lost it.
Because I'll tell you.
The movie.
Tim, it's pronounced Kansaw.
Well, I mean, a couple of things to get through.
And then we'll take your calls, ladies and gentlemen.
We'd love to get through.
Whoa.
Yeah, see that?
These guys, like, there's a whole genre of, like, organ rock.
I mean, you got ELP, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, maybe Vanilla Fudge, I believe.
Beating up the organ.
Yeah.
Yes.
And definitely Kansas is organ rock.
I think that should be a category.
This guy's doing the handstands.
Is he ever on his feet?
Watch this, though.
Look at that.
What the hell?
Well, he's the Benson Boone of the 70s.
I think that was.
I know.
This is a party trick.
It gets old.
Benson Boone is the Kansas of the 2020s.
But the thing that made me start cry laughing, well, first of all, they've got.
Years ago, Greg and I were on the road, and what we would do is we'd go into a
gas station and buy a CD of a band that we weren't too familiar with.
And we tried to.
We did a thing.
He did a thing, and I joined in on it, called Album Autopsy.
And you'd have to go through.
You'd have to listen to that whole record twice, and you'd have to make it
through to the very end and then start over and listen to it twice so you could
get the full experience.
And we got, I believe it was either, I think it was the best of Kansas, because
I don't think they would be so audacious to say that Kansas' greatest hits.
There's a distinction between those two ideas.
Yeah, I couldn't find the greatest hits.
Right, because.
That would be like three songs, right?
Yeah.
Well, that's the thing is, so the best of Kansas has got more than three songs.
I've got probably at least 10 for an LP.
And we all know there's some great Kansas songs.
You've got Dust in the Wind, Carry On, My Wayward Son.
Is that right?
And then a great song, which we were listening to this morning, is called, how
long?
What's the point of no return?
Point of no return.
And then.
Woo!
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
Yes.
It's Office Hours Live.
We're coming to you from Bentonville, Arkansas.
We're having a good time down here.
Yeah, that's enough of that.
Cut it.
I heard the word.
But then it, of course, unfortunately, folks, we drop off the cliff.
We drop off the cliff with the best of Kansas, because, thank you, thank you,
thank you.
After we get point of no return, we are literally in the point of no return,
because we are into music we don't want to listen to.
It's not.
Kansas stopped making songs anyone wanted to hear, but yet we have to fill out
the best of Kansas.
So what are we going to do?
We're going to put on the guys in Kansas.
Here's the devil's game.
This is, see, so my joke was that, like, we're talking about Deliver Me From
Nowhere and A Complete Unknown.
The movie I want to see is the Kansas movie, where it's just how hard, these
guys try so hard, right?
They try really hard to make good music, and they do, you know, but it seems
like really hard music to play, you know?
It's very challenging.
So, like, the whole movie is them.
What was that one you were playing earlier, Vic, that sounded like a carnival?
Oh, yeah, this is a great one.
It's called Away From You.
Watch this.
The whole movie is them, like, in the studio working this out.
Fuck!
Stop, stop, stop.
All right, let's take it again.
How does it go?
How the hell does it go?
All right, stop.
Stop, back, back, back it up.
The poor guy on, poor guy on bass.
What?
What's the fourth?
Where are we?
I'm lost.
The manager's like, this is not going to be a hit.
You don't need to work this hard.
Yeah.
We've been slaving away at this.
Can we just talk about this?
What's the name of that song, Vic?
It's called Away From You.
Listen, guys, can we talk about Away From You?
Because I'm lost.
Like, I get, like, two minutes in, and I'm feeling confident, and then it turns,
and I don't know where I am with it.
And I'm wondering, is the juice worth the squeeze on this one?
I know, because this is like the time of disco.
Disco's very popular.
And then the whole, like, the third act is them trying to put together the best
of Kansas record for the label.
We got a real big problem, guys.
I got three songs here that deserve to be on this record.
And then we are past the point of no return.
And that's the name of the movie's called The Point of No Return, and it's the
story of Kansas.
Let's see what the boys in Kansas look like now.
Let's see if we can cast them.
We got a picture of Kansas 2025.
Because they are, they're on the road.
Oh, yeah, they're playing.
Oh, this, I remember this guy.
There's the dude with the eye patch.
Yeah.
I remember that.
We got here.
You know what took his eye out?
It was that F-sharp key.
The F-sharp black key when he's doing one of his splits.
Wait, the keyboardist has an eye patch?
One of them does.
We don't know if it's the keyboardist.
You got that?
Yeah, I'll pull it up in here.
Yeah, we don't know who plays what.
But, yeah, you can kind of tell there's one guy who definitely wasn't in the
band from the start.
Carson, give us a Zoomer, for Christ's sake.
Yeah.
Might be the greatest opening of an Office Hours episode ever.
Now I'm getting excited.
Let's talk to our friend Peter, who has a little blood drive he wants to plug.
Peter Pumpkin Eater.
Good morning.
Yeah, that's right.
That's right.
All right, stand by Peter.
We just want to get a picture of Kansas up before we talk to you because that's
important for us to know.
There you go.
There's Kansas.
Guys, just a reminder to wear all your black shirts because we are going to be
shooting on black.
Okay.
You know, I got a lot of options for you.
I'll bring two looks.
I'll bring my black button-up and my black long-sleeve T-shirt.
Should I bring my black eye patch?
That sounds good, guys.
And just make sure everyone's not, everyone's off the hair dye.
We just want to get everyone their natural gray.
Except for you, Tony, we make sure you dye that sucker black.
Wait, check this picture out, Carson.
You get that last one I sent you?
Look at the arrangement of this.
All right.
I'm waiting for the arrangement.
It's worth it.
Looking forward to it.
I've never seen someone take a picture like this.
Okay.
Which guy is worth it?
I'm waiting for it.
I'm waiti
