I liked the way it sounded, but I was told it was unusual.
Whoa!
No, thank you.
Wait a minute.
Oh, oh, oh, you got me in your drawer.
But you actually, you're one of the great guests of all time,
because you prepared, you got some clips you wanted to talk about Billy with.
I just wanted to talk about a couple of my favorite moments from the doc.
I liked the way it sounded, but I was told it was unusual.
Whoa!
No, thank you.
You don't see Bob Dylan having to do that.
No.
No, he has one of them self-lubricated ones.
Oh, my God.
What weird eyes he's got.
Big fucking eyes.
He's got big old peepers, and one is doing something.
Going every which way.
He's got that mustache, too, that you feel is melding with the harmonica
somehow.
That harmonica's got a couple of strayers in it.
This feels like it could be a John Wurster observation, or it's this great joke,
which is, for a song called Piano Man, there sure is a lot of harmonica in it.
He talks to you like a cop being like, you up to something tonight?
Yeah.
And he's just talking about this.
All right, what's the next clip?
All you're looking for is for all these people to get on the same page.
It's going to be these sing-alongs, right?
But I'm telling you right now, there ain't a crowd I've ever played that didn't
want Piano
Man once you started playing it.
Piano Man!
Garth Brooks talking is my second highlight of this.
Well, I don't know how, I mean, you must have seen the Garth Brooks documentary.
I did, and it was, it's so, he's so crazy.
He's on his own level.
Yes, I've never seen anything like it.
Sincerity.
Intensity.
Focus.
Amen.
That's you.
Me?
I'll bet my life on it.
Like, they should do American Psycho, where he plays Patrick Bateman, I think.
All right, what's next?
Him being here in the, one of the biggest media centers in the world, it was
difficult
for him, because there was a lot of scrutiny.
They love to capitalize on the mistakes that we have all made.
What's the matter with the car?
And Billy Joel's got another smash hit, but not one he wanted.
The singer crashed his car into a house yesterday, his third wreck in two years.
The question this morning, obviously, Eric, is, did someone put more than bread
in Billy
Joel's jar last night, for example?
There's this rumor that I have all these DUIs.
That never happened, but people keep repeating the myth.
Oh, he's got so many DUIs.
I never had a DUI, so fuck you.
All right, Billy, okay.
I chose this clip because Don Henley says, you know, this has happened to all
of us.
Right.
Well, we know the Don Henley stories, right?
Yeah, we know about Don.
In 1980, he had a girl over his house, and she overdosed, and she was 16.
That's what I'm talking about.
And the cop showed up, and she was completely nude.
Yeah.
Uh-huh.
So, I think he was.
I think he was.
Well, were you there?
It was verified.
I talked to Don.
You think he's got those lion eyes?
He had a little of that Broadway in that Tin Pan Alley, which is why Billy's
melodies are better
than mine.
I don't like him.
I don't like him a lot.
He wrote better songs than me.
Tim, did you know that Bruce Springsteen's always being tickled on camera
whenever he's interviewed?
Yes, that's the problem.
He's just sitting.
Him and Keith Richards, they're always cracking each other up.
We couldn't stop touring because I was addicted to it.
And like, why are you on stage for that long?
What are you avoiding?
I definitely...
I can't be with my...
I can't be alone.
Did I get a spit take from you?
Almost, almost.
The Street Life album was written in a hurry, recorded in a hurry, and there
was all this
pressure.
It was like, okay, we better come up with a hit.
The song, The Entertainer.
That was so crazy.
What do you want me to do?
Sit on the chair like this?
Why?
Why does he look like that?
No, you know what he looks like?
He's in the first cast of Saturday Night Live.
Oh, yeah.
It's the promo shot.
