Holiday Extravaganza w/ Merrill Markoe, Jon Wurster, Madison Cunningham, Drew Erickson (Ep 368)

*Painful laughter*
Good fun, family!
Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas!
Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas!
Ho, ho, ho!
Merry Christmas!
Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas to everybody!
Good morning, my fellow Americans! This has been an incredible year for Office
Hours Live in 2025.
Filled with high-profile guests, reunions, chaotic, in a lot of ways, chaotic
takeover episodes.
And my signature rants in regards to politics.
Office Hours reached new heights in ways that cannot be believed and earned the
love and administration and admiration of all who tuned in.
Look, a lot of people don't want to talk about Office Hours Live with Tim Heidecker,
okay?
They don't. They pretend it's not happening.
The media ignores it. The podcast elites ignore it.
Very dishonest people, by the way.
And they do. All they do is bitch and moan.
They are garbage people, and they should go back to the YouTube that they came
from.
But despite everything, despite our no help, no support, or respect, we keep
the show going.
Live!
Every week, cause, music, comedy, total chaos.
People saying, "Are they still doing it?"
I say the same thing.
It's very hard.
Nobody knows how hard it is.
Vic and Doug have been making drops, yet no one has ever heard before.
Our incredible team of Mac, Russ, Luke, and Carson are doing a fantastic job.
Y'all do some any credit. Very unfair.
We explained that Office Hours added more time, more content, extra hour.
And let me tell you, that's not easy.
People think you just flip a switch.
You don't.
Very complicated.
A lot of technical things.
Very bad people are trying to stop it, frankly.
Did we get credit?
No. No headlines.
No thank you notes.
But the supports came anyways.
Quietly, very quietly, because they know quality.
And then, out of nowhere, Webby nomination.
Suddenly, everyone says, "Oh yeah, we always liked Office Hours."
Really?
Where were you before?
Fake interest.
But of course, the spiderwebbies were rigged in the failing podcast.
Office ladies won instead.
Total con job.
Creatively, we did people, things that said were impossible, and impossible.
Not huge things, okay?
We're not saying huge, but solid things.
Guests showed up.
Music work segments happened.
Merch was very nice.
Merch.
Very good in the merch.
We had it.
It existed.
The community grew.
Not massive numbers, but very strong.
Very loyal.
And still, the critics said, "Is that really an accomplishment?"
Yes, it is!
When the whole world is against you and nobody believes when you treat you very
unfairly.
Like, very unfairly.
Just surviving and improving a little bit is actually tremendous.
And a lot of people can't stand that.
But we did it!
We're still here!
And they're very upset.
Many people are very upset about it, and they're actually upset.
So, other so-called podcasts, you know the ones, I call them slobcasts because
it's true.
They are slobs like a dog.
And that's all I have to say, ladies and gentlemen.
The reason Christmas is here is because of one man only, and that is God.
So, thank you, God, for bringing us this Christmas season.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Thank you, God.
Are we live?
We're live.
Good morning, everybody.
It's Office Hours Holiday Special.
I'm Tim Heidecker, and I am so excited to spend our last week of the year with
you all.
This is the end of the year in a lot of ways.
And DJ Doug Pound behind me.
Oh, good horning.
Wait, I have a Christmas horn.
Here we go.
And VJ Doug, sorry, Victor Berger behind me, the fourth.
What's up?
What's up, everybody?
Let's see.
Looking like a tight end with that nose thing going on.
I know.
I can breathe, finally.
And that's Merry Christmas, everybody.
Captain Carlin, Happy Hanukkah to you!
On behalf of my people, thank you.
And everybody in the studio, including in a lot of ways Luke and Wes and Carson,
are here today.
Happy Chanukah.
Just in loving life.
And we're gonna have a lot of fun.
We've got tremendous musical guests in the studio with us right now.
Coming back for, which has gotta be his third or something time.
We've got Drew Erickson sitting on the keys.
Happy Chanukah.
Oh my God.
Wow.
That was massive.
Sorry.
And coming back second time this year, Madison Cunningham is here.
What do you got?
A little lick?
There we go.
Nice.
I said, Madison, would you please bring your electric guitar and all your
pedals and things?
Because you are also a shredder.
Give me a little...
Or so she's saying.
Well, listen, I know we're just getting warmed up, but we have a breaking...
Oh.
A breaking news report.
Oh, okay.
Yes, we're gonna start doing news on the 10s, but I guess we already blew past
the 10s.
We blew past the 10s.
We started a little late all the way from Malibu.
Oh my goodness.
We got a special report?
We do.
Are you there, Merrill?
You have to unmute.
Hello.
We got Merrill Marco coming in from Malibu.
Malibu, Merrill.
All right, guys.
Can you unmute on your side, Merrill?
Not on.
It's 2020 all over again.
Oh, boy.
Well.
Hmm.
Oh, there she is.
I've unmuted.
Hello, Ms. Marco.
Malibu Marco.
Hey, Mr. Heidecker.
I enjoyed that speech very, very much.
Thank you.
Did that motivate you to become more involved in the podcast and just made you
feel patriotic?
In everything.
In every aspect of life, really.
It was that moving.
So I'm here because here's a thing that I'm sure you know nothing about me, but
I live
in the same neighborhood as one of Bob Dylan's houses.
I'm told he has a lot of houses all over the country, and the houses in my
neighborhood
are all shielded by hedges.
So it's not that I've actually seen the house, but I know which hedges belong
to the house
that is supposedly Bob Dylan's house.
And in 2008, I take a lot of walks around my neighborhood.
I walked past this hedge and saw that there were Christmas lights on it for the
first time.
And it was such a random, it was one string of lights.
I sent Matt some picture of it.
And it looked like, oh yeah.
There it is.
That's one of the ones I marked up.
I started analyzing them.
The string of lights looked like the earliest version of teenage Tim Heidecker.
His mom said, Tim, I told you to put the lights up on the edge.
He went, Mom, is this all right?
We got a half hour to do it.
Go for it.
Yeah.
Threw it up there and that was the end of it.
So I thought, well, I grew up in a part of the culture where nobody was,
everybody was
very busy analyzing Bob Dylan and his every move and every word and for hidden
meanings.
And so I decided that each year I would try to find what the hidden meanings
were behind
this kind of very random Christmas light.
Like here we see 2010 where I noticed on Google that it was the same shape as
at the unemployment
chart.
So I thought, well, okay, that's a message he has about unemployment for us all.
Anyway, I was doing this every year for the following years to where every
November people
would start going, where's Bob Dylan's Christmas lights?
What is he trying to tell us?
Yeah.
Right.
So I stopped doing it in 2020, but this year, this year I noticed such
energized placement
of Christmas lights that I thought, well, I should jump back in for one more.
So you have exclusive, you have exclusive photography of this year's Bob Dylan
Christmas lights.
Right.
And I've analyzed it.
Okay.
This is great.
Oh, whoa.
This is it.
You can see that it's very, very much more peppy than any of his other previous
Christmas lights.
I could also say erratic, but I'll, I'll, I'll give you the floor.
I'm sorry, Meryl.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think erratic is all right, but I've, I've analyzed them to be, I think they
are his reaction
to the Trump administration where, you know, living among the, all the news we
get every
day up and down, up and down, up and down, and then showing how his blood
pressure spiked
every time he eats a new thing.
So I actually have a chart here somewhere.
Matt's got a chart.
So you can see he was in very dangerous territory with his blood pressure in
many instances.
And, um, this is what I've come to realize about this year's Christmas lights.
I'm just, I'm just, I don't, I'm just have a couple of questions and I'll let
you go.
The, the low points, these are when the blood pressure is low.
Yeah, Tim, that's what I was going to say.
Well, that the, there's, it's a, he's overlaid his blood pressure spikes with
the comings and goings of the Trump administration.
Yes.
But as I see here, like Pete Hegseth as in general, that's a low blood pressure
moment.
No, that was a high blood pressure moment.
Pete Hegseth was the low point.
Oh, I see.
Okay.
Okay.
I think I understand.
And then, and then up when his blood pressure.
This is, this is not.
Yeah.
I see.
So Pete Hegseth happens.
Then the blood pressure goes.
Oh, okay.
When the blood pressure spiked.
I see.
That's when it started spiking.
Okay.
So bottom is the baseline.
It's just, everything's fine.
And then something happens.
Stephen Miller shows up and up she shoots.
Right.
There you go.
That's what I think he's saying to us all.
You should really take care of our health this year that it's become ever more
dangerous
with the apocalyptic goings on in the administration for us to watch our blood
pressure.
Lower sodium intake.
Be sure to get 30 minutes a day exercise.
Hydrate.
Try to limit your salt intake if you can.
Yeah.
Eddie wins.
Well, Meryl, thank you for this update.
I know you've got to run.
We're so glad to have you.
Let me just say in all earnesty.
I just want to, I don't, I mean, we've met before, met a few times, I believe.
It's been a little while.
Yes, we have.
Yeah.
It's been a long time.
It feels like yesterday and you're one of the greats.
You are the, one of the reasons if people, I'll explain your whole thing later,
but one
of the reasons we all are who we are.
I'm coming.
I'm being called out of here.
Well, that's the truth.
Yes.
Thank you for having me on and season's greetings to you all.
Season's greetings to you, Meryl.
Happy new year and hope to see you in person soon.
Okay.
Good.
Bye-bye.
Do I even need to contextualize Meryl Marco for you?
I like, I think I probably do for you too.
But everyone should go check.
I think she's got a sub stack with all of her previous reports.
Okay.
Check it out.
Where's that at?
Very fun.
That's Bob out there for himself.
Merylmarco.com or something.
So back in the good old days, I'm going to say late seventies, maybe.
Little kid, little up and comer named David Letterman.
He's working his way up comedy charts and he's doing pretty well for himself.
And they said, do you want to do a TV show?
And he goes, well, I got this friend of mine.
Happens to be my romantic partner as well.
I believe at the time.
I want her to come on and help me figure out what the hell this show is.
Okay.
Wow.
And in the early days of the David Letterman show, it's the brains of a couple
of people.
One of the big brains is Meryl Marco.
Wow.
Meryl, the fucking queen Marco.
She's the real one behind all the best of the-
The woman behind the man.
The stupid pet tricks and the whatevers.
The top ten.
I don't know if that's her, but you know what I mean?
Remember when he threw stuff off a building?
Did she come up with that one?
Maybe.
Oh yeah.
I don't know.
I read a whole Letterman book and it went through like the different people.
Jim Downey was a big one there too.
Did they keep working together after they broke up?
That's what I'm curious about.
I should've asked her that.
I think that was-
I wonder how that works.
I'm just curious.
Just reliable.
Water under the bridge.
All right.
Well, that was-
How about rat?
How about rat?
That's very exciting.
And we hope Bob continues to decorate every year so we get more of that.
Now, Matt, we have lots to talk about.
We wanted to cram that in because Meryl had an appointment she had to get to.
She's a busy, successful woman.
She doesn't have time to hang around a long time.
Make a good point.
You wanna knock out the city of the day?
Is that what you're saying?
Let's get that over with.
The city of the day.
City of the day.
Ain't much mo
