Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), Mary Houlihan (Episode 370)

I'm quite proud of myself.
I like having fun, I like to laugh, I like to meet people who can make me laugh.
Okay, everybody, welcome to Office Hours Live!
Yeah, baby, it's January!
I don't even know, I can't see that far away.
Uh, what did I say? I thought we were dancing, we're not dancing?
Oh yeah.
Well, what are you gonna do?
This is not the Jennifer Hudson show, I suppose.
Ew.
They do good dancing on that show.
It's January, again, I don't know if it's the 13th, my eyes, I can't see shit.
15.
15, thank you, Doug.
Hi, sir.
Thursday.
Thursday, right here in Glendale, California on a crisp and beautiful January
morning.
The sun is shining, the air is clean!
Thank you.
We did a pH test on the air this morning and it went through the roof.
Thank you.
We're happy to be here with you folks, happy to have you along.
We've got a terrific show for you today with me, behind my ass.
Sucking up my ass, sucking on my ass.
He's been sucking on my ass for 20 years.
Kinda.
Sucking on my ass.
Kinda.
DJ Duck Palm!
Good horning.
And here is today's horn.
And today, and today, this is the drop of today.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
What was that?
We got an official drop of the day?
Let's hear that again.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
Can you guess who that is?
Walter Matthau.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
That is Joe Rogan's fake laugh.
No way.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
Wait, what?
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
When did that happen?
I don't know.
People's face drop.
That's the funniest thing he's ever done.
Somebody sent me that one.
I love that.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
I'm working on a new laugh too, it's like just.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
Gah, gah, gah, gah, gah.
Gah, gah, gah, gah.
Nobody cares about your beer belly.
I think people need to start fake laughing to make themselves happier.
Is that a good technique?
That is a thing.
That is a thing.
That is a thing.
You laugh and smile, yeah.
All right, let's.
You ever like going through like hell and you start smiling just to be like,
what if, does this help?
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh.
Well, look, without further ado, let's welcome the co part of the trinity.
One of the big foundational elements of the trinity.
Number three.
Number three.
Definitely number three.
Out of three, number three.
Number three.
The bronze boy himself, Mr. Bronze.
Hello.
V.J. Berger.
This is embarrassing.
I don't have my cup of coffee here and I don't have drops today.
So my drop machine busted.
Yeah, what happened with the drops?
This has nothing to do with me, by the way.
No, this is all me.
This is all me and Apple, between me and Apple.
Like I had auto.
Tim, Apple.
Auto, whatever you want to call it, update.
And then it did it.
And then Fargo is so old or something, it just doesn't work with the new system.
I got this porn that the battery's kind of dead on.
That's okay.
Try that.
Can you just do audio drops?
Yeah.
I can make them with my mouth.
Can I claim-
You want this one?
Oh yeah, I'll take that.
Can we, you debuted a drop, but I would like to also announce a new drop that I
sent you
guys this week.
Oh yeah.
Oh, I got that one.
Oh wait, can I, do you have that ready?
Go ahead.
Yeah.
Fudge.
That is a, do we reveal sources?
Do we, I think it's funny.
I want to figure out if they could guess.
Why don't the viewers guess?
Oh yeah, let's see if people can guess the fudge drop.
Here's, here's my drop of the day.
You're going to hear a lot of this.
It doesn't seem like a drop.
It seems like a full.
Well, I'm, I'm going to isolate it.
So you just hear him.
Can't you just, don't you have a folder of drops?
I can't find it.
Yeah.
I can't find it.
It's just a, it's a disaster.
It's between you and Apple.
I know.
I'm going to talk to Tim Apple about this.
All right.
All right.
And of course, Captain Carlin manning the phones.
We want to call in and doing, doing other things as well.
Of course.
Did you put your dog down?
She's dead.
Cracked that neck.
Sometimes dogs shouldn't be alive and we deal with them in very humane ways.
Speaking of.
I like that.
You said like some about me, like, yeah, some people just shouldn't have dogs.
That's, that's true.
I mean, like I'm losing her all the time.
Yeah.
Where was the last time you saw her?
Your dog.
I don't know.
I did walk her before I came here, but.
Okay.
No.
In fact, you know who loves dogs more than anybody is our president, Trump.
And he has a, you know about his resort that he has, this carnival cruise kind
of place
down, Sandals Resort.
What was it called?
Mar-a-Lago.
Where my dog's at?
I guess they had a big dog event the other night.
Do we have footage of that that we could show?
Check that out.
There we go.
There we go.
This is down at Mar-a-Lago.
While the country's, uh, uh.
Wait a second.
Flipping into.
The president's wolfing it up.
Into a fascist state where you got.
People were saying that that's furries, but I don't think those are furries.
I think, you know, it's for like a dog fun thing or something.
I think those people are just ashamed to show their face and they're wearing a
latex mask.
Try that other one because you can see like, you can see it.
There's a, there's a bunch of people.
Those aren't real furries in my opinion.
No, they're not.
That's some eyes wide shut kind of thing.
Maybe those ice guys are gonna start wearing full dog masks when they're out
there in the street.
It is.
It is.
Yeah.
It is like the shining kind of thing, you know?
Yeah.
You know, there was an orgy later that night at Mar-a-Lago.
They're eating the dogs.
You want me to stay in the-
People that came in.
They're eating the cats.
They're eating-
You want me to stay in my dog's costume for the orgy?
We're kidding, of course.
Um, I do, you have heard a delightful laugh throughout the first five minutes
of the show.
Not that one.
Nothing.
It sounds like-
Yeah, it sounds.
Can you take your computer and make that happen?
Like a full version of that song with that sound?
Now.
Oh, like turn that into the Looney Tunes?
Yeah, exactly.
Is that the Looney Tunes song?
That's the first four notes of it.
Yeah.
Gung, gung, gung, gung, gung, gung.
Gung, gung, gung, gung, gung.
Then just auto-tune it up for the second part.
Right?
I mean, it's almost like an-
I could.
I'll just do that in the background while you guys do your show.
I could do it too.
I'm just kidding.
Yeah, you don't have anything else to do now.
I don't have nothing else to do, so.
Rogan was on, I think he was on one the other day talking to Rand Paul.
Do you see that clip where he's like, oh, you get some real whataboutism going
on with him.
He's so dim.
Well, anyways, my guest is right here looking at me, Mary Houlihan is here with
us today.
Hello.
Hi.
Thank you for coming in, Mary.
Gung, gung, gung.
Gung, gung, gung.
Mary, give us a, let's, I'm getting a little context here.
You're a comedian.
Mm-hmm.
A girl one.
A girl comedian, which we are now seeing more and more of.
Yes.
We used to have, you had Lucille Ball.
Right.
And then you had Roseanne Barr.
Right, the greats.
Phyllis Diller, of course.
Mm-hmm.
And then now more and more, women are seeming to have aspirations.
They're trying.
And Paula Poundstone, don't forget.
Yes.
Never forget.
Oh, yeah.
Isis?
Next, after they round up all the.
Yes, the girl comedians, yeah.
Where are you, you're from, where?
I'm from New York City.
Shit, really?
The suburbs outside of it, yeah.
Okay.
What's a Houlihan?
Is that Italian?
I mean, is it Irish?
It's Irish, of course.
Of course.
Where's the O?
Add that O so you get the O Houlihan.
Oh, Houlihan.
That's what I prefer.
Okay.
Hey, guess what's working now?
What happened?
It's working.
Oh, nice.
I'm gonna take it to the water.
Oh, I'm so pumped.
It just started working.
It just came up, so.
All right.
Well, Mary, we're happy to have you.
I think the rule I have for the show is just chime in.
Okay.
Just have fun.
Mm-hmm.
I know you also just, you're a painter?
I'm a painter.
Are you a painter first or a comedian first?
I'm equal.
I'm mostly comedian.
So that's not equal.
Did you see?
I know you're right.
Did you watch the Joe Pera show, of course?
Joe Pera, yes.
And you know the adorable paintings on those.
Yeah.
They're like watercolor kind of things.
Can we show some of that, Matt?
Guess who made those?
Can we show some of that, Matt?
Oh, I made those.
You painted this?
Oh, I made those.
And those are watercolors?
Am I right on that?
No, they're acrylic.
Acrylics.
Yeah, I took a stab.
Let me see that, Matt.
I actually know more about art than a lot of people.
Really?
Want to look at your Etsy?
That's why you're so cool.
Is that a good place to check out?
Hey, hey, hey!
You want to look at Etsy?
Want to look at your Etsy?
Oh, yeah.
Look at my Insta.
I have a highlight.
Mm-mm.
Well, we're going to have fun today.
Yeah.
I guarantee you.
Follow two people.
You did a show with Nick Naney, a friend of ours, about the Sopranos.
Yes.
Tell us, because we're, of course, here we go.
Yeah, get ready.
We are Soprano Freaks.
Did you ever finish the Sopranos?
Really?
No, I never did.
Wow.
The last season's too sad.
You don't need to see it.
The last season?
I need a couple episodes at the end.
Look at your mouth.
I'm looking at an apple here.
Look at your eyes.
Oh, yeah, those are my paintings.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Oh, Choco Taco.
Oh, you know what's pretty-
That's your painting?
Yeah.
That's amazing.
Look at that.
Can I sit on the big screen here, Wes?
I haven't seen that one.
I love that.
That's exactly what you get at the park, the park ice cream, man.
Oh!
Okay, speaking of Sopranos, I also have a highlight of Sopranos Con that I
never show anybody.
What do you mean?
Explain what you're saying here, a highlight of Sopranos Con.
I went to a Sopranos Con in, I think it was in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and
I met all the greats.
I also got a press badge, so I got to go to-
Backstage?
A gorgeous dinner the night before.
Ooh.
Yep.
With the guys?
With the guys.
Wow.
Mm-hmm.
Who was your, who did you end up liking the most out of the gang?
Oh.
I have audio from that dinner.
Whoever plays Richie Aprile, I can't think of his real name.
Really?
Yeah.
Because that guy is a little scary.
Yes.
You got it.
You got it.
I got audio from the dinner.
Tune is good.
I want you scared.
He's like a psychopath on that show, but he's not obviously in real life.
No, he's a normal guy, believe it or not.
Very old.
Mm-hmm.
Which one's Richie?
Richie Aprile.
Richie Aprile is going out with Janice.
Oh, yeah, he's great.
He has black hair and he's frightening.
Yeah, he was abusive to her.
Yes, yeah.
And you're not condoning that.
No, no, I would never.
But in this live show you did with Nick, what was that?
Yes.
So we, it's a musical.
It's an improvised musical and we write out an outline, you know, like Curb.
Yeah.
And then we just get a bunch of funny improvisers to play all the parts.
I play Carmela.
Nick plays Tony.
How do you do your Carmela?
Tune.
Kind of like that.
Easy, yeah.
And the hair's already halfway.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Just get it a little taller.
Yeah.
And we have a pianist accompany us.
Kay Loggins is often our pianist.
Oh, Kay.
What happened to Kay?
Oh, yeah.
Kay.
Kay.
Kay was a long time caller of the show.
Mm-hmm.
We have not seen her in quite a bit.
Well, she has a new venture.
Oh.
New adventure or just a venture?
A venture.
I believe it's called New York Television.
And it's like a DIY streaming platform thing.
So check that out.
Matt, let's get the latest from Kay Loggins if possible.
In a while.
The lines are open.
Yeah.
Speaking of that, Matt, the lines are open.
We've got the hotline open.
We've got Zoom, which we can check in on now or whatever you think we should do,
Matt.
Sure.
Sure.
You want to?
We've got a guy with a topic.
Want to hear his topic?
Yeah.
Jamie?
You got a topic for us, Jamie?
Hello.
Is this the guy on the Joe Rogan show?
Jamie?
Are you the guy that shows clips?
Go, g
