Fred Armisen's Back! (And front too.) (Episode 371)

I love the sound of that drum.
Great.
I like having fun.
I like to laugh.
I like to meet people who can make fun.
Am I on?
We're already crying.
Crying, laughing over here.
Welcome to Office Hours Live with Tim Heidecker, DJ Doug Pound, Vic Berger, and
many more.
It is Thursday, January 22nd, 2026.
A light rain, a light mist coming through Los Angeles right now.
And we've got a tremendous guest here.
One of the great guests of Office Hours history might be vying for his most
appearances.
I'll just bring you in now.
Bring you into the show now with Fred Armisen from...
What the hell was it?
I know what it is.
Stand up.
Not Mr. Show.
No, stand up all over the country.
Just stand up.
Like I'm one of those...
I'm just a stand up.
You're like Nate Bargazzi.
Yeah, I'm just a stand up.
You do stadiums.
Yeah, stadiums.
And the Fred Armisen podcast.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Which we listen to.
This is called Fred.
And recommend, right?
You've recommended it to people.
Hey, check it out.
It's on...
Streaming Plus.
Wondery.
Yep.
Yeah, or the Bill Simmons Network.
Yeah.
But let's start the show.
I just didn't want him staring at me as I was goofing around.
We are laughing.
I mean, Doug got some new toys.
So let's introduce Doug real quick.
DJ Doug Pound behind me.
Good horning.
Wait.
Good horning.
Toy one.
Do we see the second toy?
Oh, wait.
Oh, that's right.
There's two toys.
Ah, it's drum day.
Yeah.
Drum.
If you're listening to the podcast.
How does it know where the symbol is?
I had to like calibrate it.
Geolocation.
Geolocation.
But then it's still kind of...
So it assumes it's up here somewhere?
There you go.
Where's the gong?
And I have a kick drum down here, too.
And a hi-hat.
That's a nice sounding kick.
Yeah, it's good.
That's actually really good.
Yeah.
It's modeled off of Ludwig.
Is it all Bluetooth?
Or how is it connected?
I think so, yeah.
It's Moontooth.
It's Keith Moon's technology.
Of course, we also have...
We're not going to belabor on that.
The drums too much longer.
But Doug will be using them throughout the show.
And then I will immediately sell them.
Are you going to sell them, you think?
You think the...
I think Doug found an old copy of SkyMall.
It's not a keeper.
How do you sell something like that?
You just tell people,
hey, I'm selling these sticks.
He's going to open up a pop-up store.
Oh, of just those sticks?
To sell the drums, yeah.
No, I'm doing a garage sale
and I'm just going to have that.
That's the one item.
We also got Victor Berger IV with us today.
What's up, everybody?
And Captain Carlin and so much more.
Your calls.
Call us at the hotline.
Can I get a low...
One note higher, please?
I think I have this.
No, no, go higher.
You missed it.
No, no.
Because don't they do...
Yeah, it goes up.
It goes up.
Yeah, it changes key right off the bat.
I thought I had that.
Maybe I don't know.
I want to start the show really quick.
An announcement.
We have a big announcement here at Office Hours.
If you'll just give me a moment, Fred,
and we'll be able to plug your podcast and everything in.
Please.
For the past many weeks,
I have said privately and publicly many times
that something I need to do is beat Vic's ass.
Excuse me?
We got to do it.
We have to beat his ass badly.
I've been wanting to beat Vic's ass badly
because of the many things he's done to me personally.
Because of what he's done not just...
Because of what he's done, not me.
I have to beat his ass.
I have to beat his ass,
take everything from him,
his cars,
his fancy downtown apartment,
and even his newly acquired gaming chair.
It was something I knew I had to do
for many reasons
and many reasons which you all know about.
Reasons that, frankly, we all know about.
But now I have made the decision,
and this is the big decision.
This is a decision we've been waiting for.
It's a big decision, Vic.
I've decided that it will not be beating your ass.
I will not be beating Vic's ass in any way at this time.
This may change, as we will have to see
as we go through the moment by moment,
but I will tell you this,
that I will not be beating Vic's ass.
All right.
That's great.
I think that's exciting.
We got some good music.
What happened to the eternity, Jim?
Thank you.
And we have some exciting music.
We got something.
Thanks.
Vic, do you want to come up here?
I have a little document to sign.
Okay.
So congratulations on you beating your ass.
Okay.
Okay?
All right.
Let's say it.
Let's say it.
It's here.
And you want to say it right here.
All right.
Good for you.
It's early.
I know.
It should be.
I won't be beating your ass.
Thank you for the music, finally.
Here we have it.
It's called satire.
How do you get, you know the big window thing you have behind you?
Yeah, go ahead.
You take for granted.
You see it on shows and stuff.
You're like, oh, some studio.
What is that?
Yeah.
How did, how did you get it?
That's a good question for Wes.
By the way, Wes in the control room has decided to have a birthday today.
Wes's birthday.
There he is.
Thank you.
Happy birthday.
21.
The kid can finally have a cold beer.
Not get, not worry about getting thrown in the, in the clink.
Great to be here.
Oh, what do we have here?
Oh, look at this.
Congratulations, you little.
Hooray.
Happy birthday, Wes.
How about these people who blow on birthday candles?
I love this.
Yeah, I've done this.
I've done this for you.
I'm going to work it out.
But people, these blow into these, blowing birthday candles and they're spitting
all over
the cake.
No, thank you.
I was like, would you mind squirting some Purell on that afterwards?
That's a, that's a, that's a weird tradition.
Mm-hmm.
A fire.
Yeah.
A fire on a cake.
Picture the first caveman, fire, put fire on the cake.
Blowing it out.
Yeah.
Kind of exhausting.
Yeah.
Right?
Kind of time.
You want a real mic?
You want a real mic?
You want the drumstick?
I'm the god of hell fire.
Yeah.
But anyways, what you were saying, this screen here.
Yeah.
Yeah, I think it is four TVs that are connected somehow.
Yeah, it's not, it's not an actual window.
But I was at the bowling.
No, no, but I'm saying that like, oh, that's, oh, the clouds are moving.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
So I, um, I was at the bowling alley the other day in Glendale and they have
this screen
that goes from like one end of the bowling alley to the other end, like this.
It's one thing.
Have you seen that screen?
I was there, uh, yesterday.
You were?
At, uh, Jewel City.
Yeah.
Well, it's now it's called back.
Back alley bowl.
Yeah.
So there's lots of different things to look at when it comes to screens.
But as boring as it sounds, screen technology, you know, as it morphs and
evolves.
Right.
Into.
This is a little peak of Fred's podcast.
You're a techie guy.
You're a techie though.
Are you still though?
Because I feel like maybe you.
Heavily, heavily.
Especially with stuff like screens and.
OLEDs.
Yeah.
It's, um, and it's, by the way, it's changing in China.
It's changing.
So as, as the technology changes, we're running to catch up.
I know.
To what they can do.
Do you have, did you go to CES this year?
Yeah.
Consumer Electronics.
So now, so now.
What was your favorite thing you saw?
But go ahead.
I want to hear what your favorite thing.
Well, you think of, uh, you know, you think of a screen.
It's something you look at.
Right.
You know, a screen can be, there's an audio screen.
So we walk, we walk in.
Yeah.
Doors open and swooping in.
I'm just, so you're, everything on your phone is on the screen, but only you
can see it.
Right.
And we're moving away from this.
We're moving this, this, this, this whole inner, the, the, the interactivity.
Yeah.
Of I'm looking at this.
I'm looking.
So now it knows where you want to go.
Right.
So I say to my friend, hey, I'm going to, you know, I'm going over to booth 14.
And so it knows.
Right.
Everything's a computer.
What's more version than a computer?
I've been, I've been getting a lot of work done in the metaverse.
Oh, nice.
Mark Zuckerberg's metaverse.
Yeah, yeah.
Which people are, are, you know, have been critical of, but.
How is it?
Uh, I put my VR on.
Yep.
And I have my meetings.
Yep.
You know?
I talk to my cartoon friends, like if you were in a meeting with me.
Yeah.
You'd be a cartoon avatar with no legs and you'd be floating around.
Yes.
I talk to you.
It's great.
I get so, I get so much done.
My, my mom was trying to set up like, you know, when can we FaceTime?
It doesn't work that way anymore.
I love these people.
They're like, when, when, what time?
What time?
No, we don't.
That's gone.
That's gone.
What time?
No.
Mr. Roboto.
I'll write that, you guys.
Sorry.
It's distracting.
I just have to promote a couple of things.
The Fred podcast, you're having Carrie on, is it your first, first guest, or
has she done
the show yet?
We're going to have her on and yeah, it's, it's been, it's been going for a
while.
We've done like a, a test version for like the past year.
Okay.
So it's not been out.
No, but we've been doing it and it's been, it's been pretty, you know, like
first we tried
it at a racetrack.
The podcast.
And because we're trying to do a theme and like people.
I don't say it sucks, but it's, it sounds complicated.
People, what we've learned is this, people don't care.
Where it is.
What kind of racetrack?
Like a loud car?
Like a horse racetrack?
Horses or cars?
Horsetriack.
Your podcast is you on a horse with another guest.
Yeah, yeah.
And you, and you can only find, you can only use a racetrack.
So people don't care.
No, no.
They don't care.
It's exciting.
And then trying to mic it and then trying to mic the horse, you know, like
through the cables
through the horses.
It's got to be wireless.
Yeah, yeah.
Horsetriack.
Not, but.
I don't care.
So now you're just in a studio.
Yeah.
Great.
There's like a whole, like a whole group of studios, you know, like in Burbank
that were
like, they're all right next to each other.
So we just.
Podcast farm.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Podcast farm.
But you are doing a show with, you are doing live stuff with the, you're doing
the Portlandia
stuff.
Yeah.
That's been going great.
Great.
And people can get that at Ticketmaster.
Yep.
Only through Ticketmaster.
Please.
And there's like a donation where you could, there's a donation where you could
donate to
Ticketmaster.
Oh, great.
Because they're going to be getting so much.
Flack.
Flack.
And I'm like, leave them alone.
They're like.
They're the master of tickets.
How else are we going to get tickets?
Also, they're just people.
Right.
They're doing their, they're trying their best.
And stop it.
Stop it.
Ticketmaster.
They're not the enemy.
They are not the enemy.
Just donate what you can to Ticketmaster.
Interesting.
Matt, let's take a damn call real quick.
But I'm playing in.
Wait, do anything with the cannonball.
Actually, can we go a little, pitch that up a half, half step?
Sure.
No, no, no.
Wait for the song to go through.
I'm playing in Charleston this Sunday.
Are you really?
I have to ask you.
I mean, this is an ongoing situation.
Matt, bring up weather.com.
What do you hear about this?
Watch.
We should do this anyways.
We should be looking at weather.com.
Yeah.
I mean, this is front page news on weather.com.
Wait till you see this.
What do I, what am I going to do?
Because I'm flying into, prepare now, like prepare now for major snow and ice.
I'm supposed to be flying into Atlanta on Saturday.
It's not happening.
I'm already getting notes from, uh, from, uh, Delta saying, hey, are you
interested in looking
at a different flight?
Oh, they're being polite.
But I don't think, I don't see, I don't think Atlanta is, it looks like it's
going to miss
Atlanta.
I think the airport's going to be fine.
I don't know where Atlanta is on that map.
Yeah, you're right.
Dallas.
My dad's driving right through Florida right now.
Look at Abilene at 30, Oklahoma at 20.
Even with Oklahoma at 20, we're not.
Yeah, I think you're fine.
I think we should just watch the weather for, for 20 minutes.
For this whole thing.
Commentary in the weather.
I d
