ON CINEMA OSCAR SPECIAL FUNDRAISING TELETHON 2019!

you'll tell me right yes we are we are live we are live for the second annual
on cinema
Oscar special telethon 2019 hashtag popcorn pledge I'm Tim Heidecker and we're
gonna be
spending the next few hours with you we are raising money for the on cinema
Oscar special coming up in
February the 20th and of the 95th anniversary of the Oscars themselves on Oscar
night we are looking
to raise $5,000 tonight over the next several hours we're gonna stay live until
we hit five I'm joined
with I'm joined in this studio here by one of the no one of the people known
for what do you call it
movies and entered all sorts of different I don't know just movies also uh
whatever you call it
experts and no I'm just saying you're you're known for whatever uh collecting
DVDs and all sorts of
stuff like that I think is and you I will can I introduce you or not yeah this
is Greg Turkington
from the VVDA hey Victorville film archives we're here tonight to talk movies
and hopefully uh get
some popcorn pledges and the popcorn pledge goes to the Oscar special and then
if there's any left it
goes towards re-stocking the VFA because there's still some films on our wish
list anything goes neck
anything that happens with this will just be put in a reserve pot for the next
Oscar special there'll be
we're not mixing those two things folks here's what's going to happen we are
going to be monitoring all
night long your pledges I know many of you have joined already but if you want
to rejoin or send in more
funds we are trying to reach five thousand dollars uh tonight I'm going to show
you this this is our
official real-time contribution tracker and this is where we're at we we have a
lot of money raised
throughout the year but tonight we're going to try to top it with 5k and we're
going to be tracking new
family members and we're going to be tracking the amounts raised so stay with
us throughout the
night uh as you uh we're going to begin with a little uh incentive if you're if
you've not pledged
then you um if you pledge now and send a screen cap of your pledge uh we will
um review a movie of your
choice I think Greg has agreed to consider the movie of your choice as a
something he'd want to review
yeah so uh just go on and we can even do two two movies pledge to on cinema
send a screen cap of
your pledge whatever the amount it could be five dollars could be five thousand
dollars that would
be end if somebody pledges five thousand dollars right now and we verify that
then we will end the
telethon the telethon will be over and you guys can get back to your life but
we uh we would encourage
you to screen cap that tweet us with the hashtag popcorn pledge and we will
review
uh movie of your choice and give it an honest review i think that's only fair
um i'm a little worried tim that somebody might be uh confused if they made a
pledge today that they
would only eat movie popcorn and not microwave popcorn they took a popcorn
pledge that might end up on our
timeline okay um that's interesting interesting perspective there um and i'm
going to show you
uh something some new technology here that i'm excited about that we're going
to be showing you in real
time uh the uh your donations okay we're going to be able to show that to you
as soon as i bring that
up uh we're going to just show how it's working and see if we've gotten any in
the next in the last few
minutes have we gotten any uh new on cinema uh subscribers let's take a look
through the notifications we've got some
notifications coming in folks standby um i'm looking so oh we've get we've
gathered we've gained two
we've gained two watch this i don't think we did i see 92 patreons we began the
night at 90
or at 89. so that's two uh we are plus two uh i should write the number down
here two thousand uh
581 uh we'll we'll have to make note of that number so we can uh note the
progress there uh
so we'll be checking in with that at the uh at 5 15 i command that we have 15
new patreons
at 5 15 if we have if we don't have 15 new patreons we're in trouble and we're
not going to be able to
provide you with the oscar special you require so uh stay tuned to see if we
hit plus 15 uh
and i'm going to update this page here greg what are some of the um the
highlights from the film
perspective of this year what were some of the the uh the just the greats that
would that might have uh
we maybe not even have talked about on the show from 2019 well in the past year
let's say the calendar
year because so far in this year under the fiscal year glass i think is what a
lot of people have
been talking about uh-huh what did you think of glass i think it's well it's it's
it's early to tell
so you don't want to say it's best film of the year when it's still january but
i've said that before
about films in january and been proven right so um you know it's m night Shyamalan
i mean he's the
master uh he hasn't done anything in a couple years and to see bruce willis and
samuel l jackson
in the same movie together is a real thrill for pulp fiction heads you do have
to wonder though why
didn't they go ahead and cast john travolta in this because that would have
really taken it over the
top that's probably the one thing that will keep glass from oscar gold in 2020.
okay we have a total
of five new patreons today sheamus uh mckenzie added 25 dollars five dollars
from taylor donart
five dollars from john virial these are all coming in in the past few minutes
so we're excited about
those uh those people chiming in with their uh pledges we appreciate every
dollar
and we have 100 now we're up to we're up to 10 new pledges just in the past
five minutes uh past few
minutes here and um we have a total of 2600 i'm going to write this number down
so that we can chart
the growth that we have to chart the growth standby and while you do i'm gonna
i have a trivia question
for the listeners but i don't think that they'll be able to answer it because
there's we're not taking
calls but um can somebody name a movie that featured john williams not as a
composer as of course is the
preeminent movie composer of all time but as an actor did john williams act in
a movie and that's
our trivia question for tonight and uh of course we know uh you know going back
to the early 60s with
some of these movies uh all the way back to the great race and the time tunnel
and then you get
into close encounters of the third kind 1941 superman and star wars jaws and
harry potter the whole
harry potter series but there's a movie from 1979 that john williams was a
conductor for that i think uh
fans of decker versus dracula might know and that movie was dracula and we are
1979 2700 was the frank
langella laurence olivier dracula not to be confused with decker versus dracula
so we're looking at a
number here we're looking at the number 2736 and i believe we started at
something like 25
because there were some pledges earlier today we thank you so much for those
this is for the month
uh and so to to hit five we looked we need to hit i think we need to hit seven
seven thousand dollars
there uh and if we i think if we reach 200 in the pledges from that number
there of 100 we'll also be
very satisfied well if you can't pledge money pledge videotapes that we can use
also for the vfa 2800 pledge
five tapes or ten tapes um we'll add them to the archives and make it available
uh to the public in
the future we are raising money at a rapid rate right now let's check the
twitter and see if we
have any popcorn pledges coming in over there we do they would like to review i
like us to review bohemian
rhapsody bohemian i'm sorry bohemian bohemia bohemian rhapsody and this is a
story of it's a set in the
king in the castle is it a castle the king and something about a queen no no no
no no this is a
biopic actually okay of uh the of the rock band and uh it's an interesting
movie i think it had a little
bit too much focus on their actual music and not so much their story uh so that's
kind of the
drawback there i think you could cut about 45 minutes out of the movie uh
mainly the concert
type footage and add a little bit more storyline because this is a movie folks
this isn't a concert
and so it was a mistake on the part of the director uh to treat it more like a
concert and to get away
from the story line so well let's see let's see um if we're talking about the
band queen is that what
you're saying yeah the band queen uh-huh all right well let's be interesting to
hear the last song on
their last record wouldn't that be interesting to hear because they know
because i think it would be
better to focus on the story so their last album uh what would their last album
have been uh made in
heaven that's their last album 1995 which is four years before the movie bohemian
moon came out which
is kind of an interesting a track called untitled it'd be interesting to hear
how did queen go out
how did they go out after all those years of making hit records what did they
choose to go out on of
course it was not by choice uh the lead singer i think they still are playing i
don't think they're
done i think they still play well but i mean as from the original lineup they
are they have retired
um partly due to the passing away of their lead singer um right but if you look
at this is the end
of the record 22 minutes jaws 2 doesn't have a lot of the same cast from jaws
it's not this original
lineup listen to this but roi scheider is still there and it's still a good
movie and murray hamilton
i'm just scrolling through the last song it's called untitled but if you go to
the second last
it's called yeah okay that was four seconds long and then it's a beautiful day
is the third to last
song on queen made in heaven let's go check in with the patreon where are we at
now we have um did you
know that it's strange that they call the movie we are almost up to 29 we're
almost up to three thousand
dollars here folks just in the first seven or ten minutes 12 minutes of this uh
pledge drive that
we're doing right now 123 patrons that means that means how many patrons i'm
not going to be able to
do this math so you have to help me out if we start with 90 and we're at 20 and
we're at 123 now
so i don't know i don't know but i think it's ironic that the movie about queen
was called bohemian
rhapsody and the movie about a queen uh mary queen of scotts actually was from
2018 as well as bohemian
rhapsody and that is a big big picture if you're just joining us right now we're
listening to the last
we're kind of going backwards through the career of queen we're listening to it's
a beautiful day from
made in heaven 1995 and uh listening to sort of almost like we're traveling
back in time through
the end of queen to the beginning of queen all night long or until well i'd
rather not do that
i also this is a chance for us to put out what we have never put out for the
public before it is
called the vfa want list these are movies that we have one copy of but we want
a backup or two backups
of uh in the eventuality that the first copy is damaged unfortunately it does
happen and if you're
running a serious archive you do need to make sure that you're covered in the
event of some sort of
flood or damage or fire as as we've learned so i'm going to quickly if it's
okay with you tim uh give
a list of some of the movies that we do need backup copies of if you have these
go ahead and i'll
update our progress get these to us and if you have two copies we'll take it
generally at the vfa we
have room for three copies of any given movie uh first classics like jaws or
citizen canes casablanca
gone with the wind titanic that type of movie uh we have room for five of those
but for just your
standard movie like falling in love again or all over the guy um urban cowboy
something like that
uh three copies is gonna do it so here's just a few titles we'll we'll do this
throughout the evening
uh if you have these if you've got extras or if you have access to these send
them in and um you
know it'll be much appreciat
