don't want to blow everything out oh thank you everybody for uh what's this all

thank you everybody thank you dick but for the 20 dollars what the hell please

listen I am not in charge of that I the uh people good people at space bomb are
in charge of that and
these things take time uh you know they're the covid the trump virus has slowed
things down I think and
it's coming you'll get it in December but uh it's right now out there for the
world
jason uh jason uh jason uh says you wasted 20 for a shipping question you know
i get it people are very
excited about the record and i've gotten nice uh messages from all kinds of
people and i like that
um i'm i'm quite happy that the the people want uh people out there are
you know not just your tim heads necessarily but there's some people out there
really get it yeah they
really get it so i just thought i could slack story records i haven't stopped
crying since your album
came that's terrible i don't i don't think we want that much crying um i will
take questions thank you
matt van dam i will take um questions about the record if you have them you can
type them in there
super chat is appreciated of course it's always good for the office hours uh
commute you know office hours
bank account keeping everything running smooth keeping everything running
smooth sarah i saw that you
did a cover of nothing i i love when i love your voice i love when you uh cover
my music i love
when people cover my music it's so nice to hear you it's so nice to hear you
singing my song singing my song singing my song
anyways um i'll play you i don't know if this is interesting to anybody but i
could play you
some of the songs from the record and talk about them there and also you know
sarah or anybody else
that wants to play these songs uh a little lesson for you about how to do them
uh we saw we started
we started uh the record with this prelude to feeling
and it's just a little thing in e right and a lot of the record a lot of the
songs i write
do this sort of uh one five thing very kind of early uh rock and roll beatle-y
kind of thing
see al harrington what's your writing process this is it i could sit with my
guitar and just kind of
i might just sing that for a while till i say something cool
ryan love your new record was the track come away with me inspired by eat at
home by paul mccartney
and linda mccartney i will get to that when i talk about that song but maybe i
guess so
so and then i started thinking well we we had a bunch of the songs for the
record i thought it
would be nice to have some kind of um an opening statement an opening uh prelude
a little intro piece a little set the table so i started singing we're working
on we're working
on something new we think it's gonna be great can't wait to show it to you we
hope you love it too
you know like that's kind of neat still have some lines to get but it's getting
almost done can't say
it's finished yet but when it is we'll share it with everyone you know
fit on back in your favorite chair you don't have to be anywhere put your
headphones on if you dare
you're you're you're about to feel you're about to feel right and then just
a little funny it's kind of i mean sit in your favorite chair you know you're
about to feel
i think it's kind of funny to us but also you know true so
and i think it's a misdirect maybe people think it's gonna be a big goofs but
it's not all that funny
these days comedy's gotta take the back seat for a while and then and then you
got
and so when i wrote this this there was a riff in here
and i don't know that kind of got eaten up and swallowed by the great uh michael
diadario from the
lemon twigs who played that this really great kind of i think it reminds me of
uh of ron wood ronnie
wood or or some like a little
country rock with a little british faces maybe a little um dave davies or
something but but
that was my thing
will you come away with me and so you could easily do this a lot of different
ways but
will you come away with me
we could raise a family or we could live in the mountains is that what i say
first see i i don't
remember my any of my own lyrics anymore because you know we made this record a
year or so ago but
yeah i mean it it's it's kind of maybe a little a little beach boys a little uh
you know certainly a
little bit of that ram sentiment from mccartney where you come away with me
we can live in the mountains around by the sea we can live like kings if we
move out of the city
and so there's that one five thing again going from the a to the e
very rock and roll man very basic stuff very elemental
oh will you come away with me we can raise a family and make our own cheese we
can have everything
if we move out of the city so we can raise a family make our own cheese now
that's a moment you go
am i going to change that later am i going to redo the am i going to you know
edit these lyrics and we
end up not editing because everyone kind of goes sure sing whatever you want
very evocative very uh
you know you can picture that scene and then you go to the bridge or the pre-chorus
or whatever you
want to call it city's hot and there's things i don't care what everyone thinks
heaven could be here on earth
in the green hills and the golden fields and lakes that were made for swimming
and the green hills and the golden
fields and lakes that were made for swimming oh come away with me
so i would batter doom bottle bomb right and that's pretty much that then you
just do it again oh will
you come away with me we could save our money and live so simply we pick the
fruit off the trees
if we move out of the city so i really like that's when i felt good about it
was like we're good we have
picked the fruit off the trees you know it's very ray davies right if we move
out of the city
you know it's just it's not that it's not that tricky for me to uh to go there
and just it's
pretty basic rock and roll um in the green and that's pretty much in the green
and you know uh
city's hot and it stinks i don't care what everyone thinks you know that's
almost a little bruce
springsteen too a little that stinks and i just want the whole band going boom
boom and that's what they
did and in the green hills and the golden fields lakes that were made for
swimming in the green hills
and the golden fields and lakes that were made for swimming you know you could
go real corny with it if
you want um and then we did this you know well come away with me thought it on
come away with me
come away with me
uh people say it's still low but i don't think i mean somebody said it was low
oh wow is it low what do we what do we what do we think i think it should maybe
it's on your end you
so then um
thank you ken so i'll do this one is um backwards
it's low all right i mean i i i don't really know how to control that to be
honest with you i have it
up all the way over here um i could just look one more time but
it's coming in on pretty good levels here so i'm just going to live with it i
guess i could
look at one thing um um
so this is in d this is backwards
and i um have level heads yeah just just you know just to know just go away
i think they're just probably trying to annoy me so i wrote this uh last summer
and it's
very much literally uh we went on a trip to see some friends in vermont shout
out to vermont
and i'm sitting there watching my kids in this lake and you know just things
weren't going too well
still aren't in the broader sense and um just kind of started writing about
nice way to start a song about chill children
swimming in the water
right so when i did the water water water that's like i think that's an octave
i was like that's kind of catchy it's kind of a hooky kind of thing
children swimming in the water laughing and playing being golden no way of
knowing
we're moving backwards we're moving backwards we're moving backwards we're
moving back
we're moving backwards moving backwards we're moving backwards we're moving
back
so what i like the other thing i liked about this as i was writing it was
doing so there's actually like this third if it goes children are swimming in
the water
the next one should do the same thing but it doesn't because it goes playing
and laughing
being golden no way of knowing there's a there's another one there and i think
i'm you know i'm not an expert but i think when you do those things when you're
writing it it's
interesting to the person's ear or it's it it kind of surprises you a little
bit just a little bit
and then and then the second verse is kind of
little environmental deal
water's getting drier trees are falling in the heat as you know it's a tricky
song to sing and i think
this is one of the few songs where i sang separately from natalie because i
couldn't really it was really
hard to to harmonize on this because it's very we we sing together a lot but we
also like in unison but
then we go different directions and for some reason i can in the water like
water is very hard for me to sing
but um fall in is a little easier and maybe it's just because it's you're
warming up in the as you're singing the song
water's getting drier people are hurting who are we fooling we're moving
backwards we're moving backwards
we're moving backwards we're moving back we're moving backwards we're moving
backwards we're moving back
right
and then you got to get to a bridge you got to oh don't it make you cry
don't it make you want to lay down on the ground and and i you know
which is a little bit of a weird time signature change i think
uh don't and make you cry
don't it make you want to lay down on the see i always i can't do it as i do it
on the record
don't it make you want to lay down on the grounded ground and die
hey baby i love i mean it's just rock rock and roll music you say hey baby
it's kind of like it's kind of like but then you know it gets fairly dark about
the future and i
i do like uh this line quite a bit and i think it might be you know one of the
my favorite things
i've written which is uh you know hey baby sun is setting on the good times oh
no
funny when i was younger we loved the future but the future knew we were moving
backwards
like i'm doing a very country version of it right now as i kind of make fun of
it but but the future
knew we were moving like that that's a nice but uh rhythmic thing to sing i
think
don't it don't it don't it make you cry don't it make you want to shout out at
the midnight sky
and then this is the second as we as we as we end the song um this is all true
i would after the
vermont we went up to my wife's cabin my wife's father has a cabin up in in uh
bc up in the rockies
canadian rockies uh sarah i'm a huge you know a huge um judy sill fan i think
that's what you're
talking about with lady lamb right or lady lamb is somebody else i'm sorry
so music kind of bright but lyrics down yeah that's that's pretty much what we
got going on here
um so i said well this is a nice little thing this is all kind of true i'm
heading to the cabin
in canada sheridan lake
sitting by the docks skipping rocks so that's different than all the other
versus um versus we and i don't know it's shorter i guess and so again it kin
