Office Hours East with New York Jonathan (Ep 1 6/17/21)

We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
I'm having a slice right now, which we actually genuinely needed.
We meant to order food a while ago, but it came now, so here we go.
Anyway, so this is it, Office Hours East, we're giving this a shot.
If you saw my Instagram post, you probably know why I'm doing this, and if you
didn't, like, I've never really had an interest in doing a podcast.
I don't even like the word podcast, I don't even know what I'm doing, I don't
even know what I'm doing, but I'm doing this, I don't even know what I'm doing,
but I'm doing this, I don't know what I'm doing.
said, had a really stupid idea of, let's do like an, I want to do like an East
Coast version,
like the gritty New York version, and it'll just be dumb. I was like, great, on
board. And here we
are, yeah. So we're going to just try this one tonight. We're going to see how
it goes. Maybe
we'll do it again. Maybe we won't. We're just going to figure it out. Got a lot
of tech stuff
going on. Might have some TDs, tech difficulties. Might not. We're going to see
how the night goes.
Let's get, let's get into it. I want to introduce you to my sidekick. Please
welcome all the
way from down the street, Slice, the New York slice of pizza. What's up, Slice?
Hey, what's
up, John? Crust got hurt, huh? What's that? I was just trying to catch, Crust
got hurt. Crust
got hurt? I don't know. I was trying something. You were trying something? Yeah,
I was kind
of nervous. Yeah. You see, you were, well, just listen. I was about to call you
Crust. Slice,
just relax. We are alive, but don't even worry about it. Just pretend like we're
sitting
here. Don't even think about anything other than just you and I are hanging out.
Okay.
Right? I was going to say mano, mano, mano, but like mano, eat Crust. I was
just, I was
feeling okay when it was like Twitter and Facebook live, but then when I heard
it was going to
be on Twitch, I kind of got, I thought, well, I got to come up with something.
Crust got hurt
or. I got, I was, I was actually thinking, no, your instincts are good, Slice.
Now we're just
going to call you Crust. Please don't call me Crust. That's my father's name.
But don't
you think though, that's like a good nickname for a slice of pizza, Crust? Well,
it's like,
it's like me calling you Cheek. I like that. That makes me think of Maurice Cheeks,
one of
the best point guards in NBA history. We'll cover that later in sports talk.
But here's
what I was thinking. This could be maybe a good one, depending on how, you know,
if we do
more shows, like, what do you think about this? You're a real pain in the crust.
Oh, instead of what I said? Not even, it's not instead. It's just maybe in
addition to.
Oh, okay. Crust got hurt. You're a real pain in the crust. You're a real pain
in the crust.
Am I saying it like you? You know what? I think you're right. Crust got to hurt.
No, no. You're, uh, no, let me just try to, yeah. Crust got to hurt.
I'll find a good time to say it because otherwise it just seems, it seems crazy.
I feel crazy.
So I gotta find a good time to say it. Well, listen, I'd like, uh, I'd like
both. I think,
you know, pick, pick your own. We can always check in with fans, see what they
think, and
then do whatever the fuck we want. Crust got to hurt. Crust got to hurt. You
got to, uh, pain,
I don't get it. Well, what, yeah. What's the, what, when you're looking at the
origins of something,
is that the epidemiology of it or is that insects? What? Like what, when you're
looking at anybody
know, like, like what's the, when you're looking at the origin of something, is
that like the
epidemiology of it or is that the study of insects? Epidemiology. I think that's
the study of skin.
Oh, right. Epidermis. Yeah, but, uh, no, the edymology. Oh, may, in any case, I
was just curious
what, what, what inspired, uh, Crust got to hurt. Is that what it was? Crust
got to hurt? Uh, to be honest,
uh, John, when we were going over the show before, uh, you, you told me the
catchphrase,
and I, I honestly, I honestly thought that was it. I came up with Crust got to
hurt? No, no,
you told me that, you're a pain in the crust. You told me that one, and
honestly, I thought I was
saying it. Oh, so you, you, you mixed up, you're a pain in the crust, and that
became Crust got to hurt?
Yeah, I actually thought you were going to kind of get on board really fast.
Well, let's go with Crust got to hurt, Slice. Just, you know, listen, it's all
good.
We're all nervous. It's all exciting. It's all exciting. It's office hours. It's
New York City.
It's live. I'm sweating through my shirt here. Yeah. Well, let's do this. I'm
going to tell
everybody, so pretty soon coming up, we got a couple live, or we got a couple,
everything's live.
We got a couple call-in segments where we will take your calls live. Uh, I
guess we want to bring up
the number now to show people. It's, uh, we're going to put it on the screen, I
believe.
I'll say it anyway. 818-804-4478. Should be on the screen. That number's up
there, John. That number's
up there. Thank you. Um, so we're going to be doing a segment soon, and just to
give you a heads up,
the first segment we're doing tonight is sock talk, and what we're going to be
doing is we're going to
be talking about socks. Uh, what's your favorite sock? Why? What's the, what
materials do you like?
What kind of sock? Do you like a no-show? Do you like a mid-cap? Do you like a
knee-high? So think
about that. Load up your questions, or not even a question. It's just going to
be, we're going to
tell me the socks, and we're going to talk about them. Um, before we do that,
just because this is our
very first show, uh, there's a lot to figure out as far as the tech. You know,
we left the set
intentionally blank. You know, I thought I might decorate it a little bit, and
then it kind of felt
like, let's just ease into things. Let's take it as it goes. You know, uh, we'll
let the, the show,
how the, the, how the show unfolds, the, the, uh, the journey of the show. I
don't know how to talk
anymore. I, but, and I'm speaking just generally, like I, I forget basic words.
I was going to say the
genesis, but it's more, I guess, the journey of the show, uh, and we'll, we'll
let that define maybe
what the background becomes. Uh, but for now, it's just this pretty nice wood
wall. It's a blank slate.
So we are what, uh, we're working out the kinks, uh, which leads us to our
first segment, which is
called working out the kinks. So let's bring that up. Let's play the music. We're
going to work out some
of the kinks here. Uh, so Slice, what do you think? I mean, should we mount the
shelf? Yeah. Should I slide
the shelf over a little bit? Yeah, slide the shelf over. You've got a bug on
you. Hold on a minute. Oh.
Slide the shelf over. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I brought my bike in. What kind of bike is that? This is, uh, if, if there's
fans of my gear show,
let me just bring this up. This is the, this is the, this is the, this is the,
this is my bike from my
John Glaze Love gear show. Uh, so I don't want to lock this on the street. It's
far too, uh, valuable and precious to me.
I don't want to just make sure that I don't, uh, you know what? This is also
something else's
workspace. Oh. I don't want to like fuck this thing up unless you want to the
home of the tour.
Yeah, yeah, that's, yeah, you're in the right direction. Yeah. A little, yeah,
that's really
good. That's, that's really, really good. Yeah, that's a lot better. What do
you think? That's our,
I like it. You like it here or should it go back? Leave it here? A little back,
a little back.
Sorry folks, we're just working off the kids here. Oh, I'm sorry. Could you
move it just a little
bit more to the center? Ah, you know, crust gotta hurt you, but you're, you're
a real pain in the crust.
A real pain in the crust. A real pain in the crust. A real pain in the crust.
All right, so that was
working out the kinks. That's, uh, probably a segment we'll do every show. Um,
all right, you know what?
We're just going to kind of get into, uh, sock talk here. So we're going to
take your calls. Uh,
come at me with, uh, with socks, you know, tell me about your favorite socks.
Now I will say this,
we are limited by our, our technical capabilities. What I was hoping to do is
talk to you about your
socks, bring up a photo of the socks so everyone can see it, but you might have
to do that on your
own because we don't have the bandwidth here, which is fine. Um, if we're, if
we keep doing these shows
and we get more money from, uh, office hours, and this is an extension of the
office hours family.
So if they decide to give us a little more money for stuff and we can actually
show socks, we'll do that.
Um, but for now you can either go online at home and check out the sock if you
want to see it.
I'm going to start things off. Um, this is, uh, one of my favorite running
socks. This is by a brand,
it's called Injinji. And if you wanted to look that up, it's I N J I N J I, Injinji.
And this is,
uh, and I don't know, Slice, do you actually wear socks ever? No, I don't have
any feet. But still,
you could put like a sock at the bottom just to kind of keep your bottom. No, I
like the tip exposed.
I like to show my tip. Yeah. And what about at the top? Do you ever wear hats?
Oh no, I don't have any head.
So just so no socks, you've never, you've never put one out on even out of
curiosity? No,
no, no. Cause I want to show my tip, but I do like to cover my little pizza nipples.
So that's why I wear a shirt. And how about at home? Do you ever just like for
comfort?
No, I, at home I am, I am, I take, I take everything off. Even the cheese.
Really? So no socks. Crust gotta hurt. Crust gotta hurt.
So this is the Injinji. It's like a, like a mid calf sock. Uh, and it's also a
toe sock. I'm going to show
you that right there. I don't know if you can see that. Well, listen, I'm not,
I don't like toe shoes,
like those running, the toe running shoes. Terrible. I think they're stupid. I
think they're gimmicky.
I think they're bullshit. Here's one of the differences between office hours
and office
hours East. You probably get a lot more swearing in sports. Those are probably
the two main differences
starting off. Um, but yeah, I think the toast, the toe shoes, I think are
bullshit, but the toe socks
are really, really fantastic. Uh, you can wear them for running. You can wear
them for everyday comfort.
I wear mine for running and it's nice because it decreases the friction between
your toes.
You know, you're not getting a lot of that skin on skin friction, which can be
a, a real problem
with longer distances. Uh, I also like how you've got to be really kind of, it
slows you down
as far as when you're getting dressed, when you're getting prepared and putting
your stuff on. Excuse me.
Um, also for fans, that's me on the Thon, running the marathon. I don't know if
you can see that.
You're getting a good shot of the Thon mug. Great. Um, and so I like that it
kind of slows you down
and forces you to just be in the moment, getting each toe section on each toe,
one toe at a time,
slowing down the body, slowing down the mind, slowing down your preparation,
getting more focused.
It is one thing I really enjoy about these socks. I do prefer, especially in
the fall and even in the
summer, I like a mid calf, uh, cut. I just like the length. I like the comfort.
I like the aesthetic.
And I do happen to like the style of these Injinjis. Uh, I like this. I brought
the red ones because I
thought that might pop better for camera, but it's obviously got a lot of black
in it. Uh, the toes are red,
which you really don't see because that's in the shoe, but I still know it's
there and there's
something nice about that. Um, there's a lot of other features that are really
great about it. They
do grip really nicely at the calf. I know
