A.D. Miles, Eric Slick (Dr. Dog) on Office Hours Live (Ep 164 7/8/21)

I like having fun. I like to laugh. I like to meet people who can make me laugh.
I like having fun. Yes, I like to laugh. I like having fun to meet people who
laugh.
Hey, okay. All right, let's get the show going. I got to get out of here. I'm
only going to be here for 20 minutes today. I got something at 1030. So I got
to wrap things up at 1020 so I can get out of here. I got Doug's loose and hot.
And that's it. And AD Miles is here too. Hello, how are you? I'm good. All
right.
Is my thing final? Is my thing? Why does he keep telling me the host would like
you to unmute, Tom? By the way, Tom, young, good morning, everybody. I'm not in
the mood for this shit. You hear me?
I'm bored. I'm bored. I'm bored. I'm bored. I'm bored. I'm bored. I'm bored. I'm
bored. Are you kidding me? It's opposite day on Office Hours. I couldn't be
more excited. I gotcha. I fooled you. We are going to go a full show today.
Probably long because it's going to be fun.
I like to take out my teeth before I begin nibbling on your filthy skin.
What the gross little song I...
Miles, it is great to have you in the Vic chair today.
I am so glad to be back.
And that's all we'll hear from you today.
That's it. That's it.
You are here to sit...
You need medication.
Okay, Doug.
Doug has the drop floor today.
There's no competition because you're not here with sounds or...
No. I have all my hands tied behind my back in that regard. I've got no keys or
buttons to push.
No. You were just at Doug's mercy here. He's going to go... He's going to
fucking let loose today.
Finger happy.
Finger happy.
Wow.
Well, maybe I'm going to be chilled out and I'm going to like lean back on the
drops.
Well, so far the evidence isn't pointing in that direction.
That's hard to say.
Wow.
First 30 seconds are trending the other way.
Let's see how disciplined my Doug can be.
Me?
Where are you headed?
You know how to get Doug off the drops?
Talk to him.
He can't talk and drop at the same time.
Maybe this is all just to cry for attention.
I believe it might be.
Hey, Doug.
Doug?
Yes?
Where are you headed today?
Chicago.
Chicago!
Oh!
The Windy City.
Yeah.
Spend much time in Chicago, Miles?
No.
I've been there probably twice.
Okay.
Yeah.
It's nice.
It's a clean town.
It seems like it anyway.
Maybe not the politics.
Great comedy town.
Certainly.
I think your odds of being recognized there are higher than in other cities in
this country.
What's your recognized, what's your recognize rate these days?
These days?
Well, these days are hard to say.
These days I don't go up that much.
Sure.
But I'm going to go maybe once or twice a month.
I'll get a, huh.
Oh, look who it is.
Yeah, look who it is.
You're that, what are you?
How do I know you?
You are, you are, you are, you are.
I got a good story about that by the way.
Well, please come with stories.
Come with anecdotes.
I was, we were at, we were at UNC with the, we were doing an episode of the
Tonight Show
at UNC.
Or, yeah, I think it was UNC.
And.
University of North Carolina.
We were, Jimmy was interviewing Barack Obama and I remember going there.
Now here's the thing.
Oh, now.
Oh, wow.
That's a great Johnny Carson impression.
Hey, wait a minute.
Now it's good to talk to you.
It's good to be with you.
Uh huh.
Okay.
Anyway, I was there and I was on a college town and I was, and it was a
constant.
I'm thinking like, Oh, white hot American summer.
I mean, it's like, this is it.
Oh boy.
You know, let's just go ahead and, uh, you know, give myself an extra five
minutes to
get across campus because I'll be, and all that.
And, um, and then setting booth.
Absolutely nothing.
Like just straight looking through to the point where I was like courting it a
little bit.
Like I was stopping and going like, Oh boy, that was fun.
Yeah.
Those were the days.
Well, it's wet and hot out here.
Speaking of, um, and then still nothing.
And then finally I was going to Starbucks and I was getting my coffee and these
two girls
came running up to me with a, um, a camera and they go, Oh God, can we get a,
can we get
a picture of you?
And I go, here we go.
Here we go.
Sure.
And I put my coffee down on the ground and they said, no, no, no, no.
We need you to hold the coffee.
Cause we're doing a scavenger hunt.
We need someone to hold a picture of someone holding a Starbucks.
And then I, I posed with my coffee and they said, thank you, sir.
And they were, so I was, I was looking for it and then got so close and then
nothing.
That's what is that ambience Doug?
Is that a river running through us?
Where?
I hear like white noise.
Do you hear it?
My, my ears don't pick up white noise.
Really?
They're shot.
Are you hearing that?
Does anyone else hear it?
I do.
I mean, there's like a very faint, but I always figure that's just.
Oh, it's kind of going away.
You hear this?
Yeah.
I heard that.
It's not that.
I thought you were doing like a babbling brook.
Wait, is it this?
Just cause the word wet came up.
We, well, so miles, 80 miles is here.
Of course, from a wet hot American summer.
Thank you.
Role models.
Yeah.
This dude was the head writer of the tonight show with Johnny Carson.
I'm sorry.
The tonight show with Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon.
Different show.
Yeah.
JF.
Not JC.
What are you?
You're cycling again, aren't you?
Cycling through.
Me?
You can't find something.
I can't find it.
It seems like there'd be a way to look for it before you played it.
We've, we've.
I wanted to play teeth chattering.
I wanted to play teeth chattering.
You know, you could audition sounds before you put them out.
That would be the dream.
No.
It's like when Tarantino played Stuck in the Middle with You during the torture
scene.
It's counterpoint.
It's just like that.
Boy, Tarantino's on a bit of a promotional tear this week, huh?
Yeah.
He just bought AMC theaters.
He did not.
No.
He bought the Vista theater.
He bought the Vista.
Is that not called the Buena Vista theater?
I think it's just called the Vista.
This has got to be short for Buena Vista.
It's just the view.
It's not a particularly good view.
All right.
It's just the view.
Okay.
What's he going to do with it?
He's going to show old slasher movies.
Oh, right.
Okay.
Clint Eastwood, spaghetti westerns.
Sure.
Grindhouse.
Nothing I want to see.
Right.
Patton Oswald will be all over that.
He'll be there showing up.
Oh my God.
You got to see this movie.
It's the first time.
It was the first horror movie with Faye Dunaway being, her head getting cut off
or something.
How many of those were there?
That was what we call bad improvisation.
Yeah.
It's your standard Faye decapitation film.
God bless them.
God bless movie buffs, right?
Oh my God.
I mean, where would we be without movie buffs?
Buffs in general.
People that are just fans of things.
I like anybody that really hones in on something.
Aficionados.
Oh my God.
We wouldn't be here if there wasn't buffs.
Tarantino.
Loves it.
I was, you know, I...
What?
Got Tarantino's story?
I made this little joke because I saw this clip of Tarantino on Joe Rogan.
And what Joe Rogan said, maybe you might not agree with me on this.
We'll find out.
Maybe Doug won't either, but we're all around the same age.
And Joe Rogan is also around my age.
And he said, the first time I heard of you was with Pulp Fiction.
No, he said, I'd heard about Reservoir Dogs.
But the first time I saw anything of yours was Pulp Fiction.
I'm thinking, when I was in high school, Reservoir Dogs was the shit.
Yeah.
I was all over that movie.
But also, wasn't that close to one of the beginners?
Like...
What do you mean?
The first time I ever heard of you is when your first movie came out.
Like, of course.
Right.
You know, I'd never heard of you until you started making movies.
I heard of you as...
I knew you because I knew that you worked at this video store.
Exactly.
And Doug, are you in that boat?
Like, you saw Reservoir Dogs.
Reservoir Dogs.
I rented it.
My friend...
Boom!
I rented it.
And we got blown away.
We're like, dude, this is my guy.
I saw it in a theater.
An art house theater in the village.
You did?
Yeah.
With a co-worker.
What did you think?
I was totally blown away.
Blown away, right?
Yep.
I was all about it.
When he's bleeding...
He's bleeding out.
His ear...
Tim Roth is bleeding out.
He's calling for mommy.
He's in the back.
Sure, yeah.
He's bleeding out of my gut!
I don't remember.
We're not gonna do lines.
You're gonna bark all day, little doggie.
Okay.
And you will know!
My name is the law!
I just thought it was like a nice display of the lameness of Joe Rogan that,
you know...
What's the problem with Joe Rogan that he's not going out to see Reservoir Dogs
when that shit comes out?
Well, I'll give him a pass on that.
Yeah, because he might not have...
Hey, you know what?
Give him a pass.
Give him a pass.
We decided...
Second shot.
Second shot.
Maybe he's not a movie buff, you know?
Maybe he's not a buff.
Well...
You ought to be.
And then the soundtrack to Reservoir Dogs was big.
Stuck in the middle with you.
Oh, yeah.
It was the first time that I'd heard that kind of like, you know...
70s.
70s songs and...
Yeah.
And then you had Steven Wright doing all the radio DJ voice on there.
Tim, do you know what the artist is called that does Stuck in the Middle With
You?
Yeah.
Steeler's Wheels.
Steeler's Wheel.
Incorrect.
Steeler's Wheel.
Steeler's Wheel.
Steeler's Wheel.
Isn't that Jerry Rafferty?
I got the feeling of something right.
Bob Dylan called and said, "Hey, hey, hey, hey man.
What the fuck are you doing, man?
I want some of that money."
I want some of that money.
I want my voice back.
I want some of that money.
That's my cadence.
Did you ever hear this story I heard once that...
Yes.
That Rod Stewart had this song called "Forever Young."
Remember Rod Stewart's "Forever Young"?
Yeah, where the video is where he had a redheaded kid on a convertible, right?
Forever Young.
Totally different song than the Bob Dylan "Forever Young."
But they called Dylan to be like, "Hey, we got this song, same title, different
song.
Can you give us the okay?"
He says, "Nah.
Nah."
He said no?
Yeah, you got to pay.
You got to pay me.
That's my idea, forever young.
Like that's kind of a universal concept of being forever young, you know?
Yeah, that's a common phrase.
But maybe it wasn't.
Yeah.
We should find out...
We should copyright the word love for all music.
Is that you?
It wasn't me.
I shut off my Skype.
Sorry.
We got a Skype weirdness there.
Anyways, I think that's a good topic, perhaps, is things that we think are
common phrases,
but are actually very specific.
I don't have any examples.
What is that, Tom?
Half a dozen.
What am I hearing?
Tim, I got to ask you a question.
Do you think when the Stones did the Steel Wheels tour, Steelers Wheel was like,
"Hello?"
No.
Well, Greg and I used to do this routine together, just between the two of us,
about the conversation
between the Rolling Stones coming up with the name Steel Wheels.
What was that?
How did they...
How did they get to Steel Wheels?
My guess is someone said, "How about Steel Wheels?"
And everybody's like, "Yeah, shit, whatever."
Fuck it.
Yeah, let's do it.
Fuck it.
How many of these have we done already?
What about something not train?
Like a railroad tracks?
I think you're from a different part of England than the Stones.
No, stop.
Don't be giving me micro notes on my accents and impressions.
Well, that's a little...
The audience loves them.
That's a little South London, if you ask me.
You're crazy.
You're fucking crazy.
No, that's it.
Now you got it.
Now you're in my head.
Where are they from?
I think they're from on Wharton Dolls.
Is that right?
No, I don't know.
They're from London.
They're actually from London.
Are they?
Part of London, yeah.
That's true of this working class boy.
See, this sounds like Mick if he speak like this.
I don't know where I'm from.
I haven't remembered.
That's a little Beatles-y if you ask me.
No, it's not.
Beatles are up here.
See, they're up this way.
They're up north.
I think they made that whole
