Lynne Berger, Parquet Courts, Phil Pirrone on Office Hours Live (Ep 181 11/11/2021)

I like having fun. I like to laugh. I like to be loud. Oh Lord. Oh Lord. Oh
Lord. On hand me. Oh Bubba. Welcome ladies and gentlemen. Welcome. I am keeping
my, I'm going to keep my voice. I'm going to not be screaming at you because I
know you love when I scream at you and raise the roof here. I'm going to bring
my energy down quite a bit today.
Uh, because I got a big show tomorrow night. I got to keep my voice tight and
beautiful. Thank you Jesus. And I can't be cracking like a frog in front of all
those desert dwellers. Doug, good morning to you. You're going to have to be
high energy Doug today for me. Okay. To push it to the limit. Want me to scream?
Give us, give me your biggest Heidecker impression where you just like, how I
come in hot. Come on, let me fucking get some energy. Let's go. I don't have
that voice.
Maybe I could do it like this. I could do the David Lee Roth where you like
inhale. Oh wow. Wow. You can try that again. That's really good. I could do
like, uh, let's go.
I told you the funniest thing I've ever seen, right? Is, uh, is our friend Greg
Turkington doing, uh, doing, uh, AC/DC karaoke. And he does it real close mic,
but he does, um,
good morning, everybody. Welcome to the show. I've got joined by Doug Luce and
hop of course. And Vic burgers here. Hello everybody. And our, ew.
Hello everybody. That's Vic's new salutation, salutation. I'm trying new voices
out today. Hello everybody. I'm Victor burger.
Vic burger smash guy. Hello. Uh, and of course, Matt, the producer who's been
off his game admittedly saying, he said,
he's screwed up many technical things this morning on behalf of the show. At
least three or four things.
I apologize to the office hours community. Matt is the captain of Alpha Centauri.
He's too busy captaining Alpha Centauri.
Matt's a really, really nice guy. Yeah.
Matt is the captain of Alpha Centauri.
I sent that to you guys. You sent me that. I don't know what it's from. Isn't
that Gordon Lightfoot or something?
Yeah, it sounds like Gordon Lightfoot. It's not Gordon Lightfoot. But the other
big thing is we have a very special in-studio musical guest, ladies and
gentlemen.
Let us welcome, I don't know, she's probably been on the show before, maybe via
Zoom. Yeah.
But the one and only Mrs. Lindberger. Good morning, everybody.
Must be Vic's sister. This can't be Vic's mother.
From Pennsylvania. Good morning. Thank you for having me.
Can you hear me? Okay, good. You must be Vic's sister. You can't be Vic's
mother.
No, we won't even go there.
Oh, what if he's, I don't want to get the kids into it.
Yeah, well, maybe.
What's happening? Were you out here seeing the grandkids?
Yes, I am and checking in on what's going on.
What is this? By the way, look at what's happening with this.
What?
You're leaning in, but you have to because there's no consideration about where
she, how she can be comfortable.
That's good.
There we go.
Hey, mom, we should go six inches to his mic.
We could have got a better mic, yeah.
No, it's fine.
It's a 58.
Everything's so good.
Why don't you play us a little something, okay?
There we go.
Just warm us, get us in the mood for, give us something poppy and fun.
Nice.
And light.
And happy Veterans Day.
I know we have, I'm sure we have several members of the armed services served.
Do we have any in the room or any veterans?
No.
You know?
My father served, my grandfather, both my grandfathers and I did not.
Why not?
Let's hear it.
Pop the magic dragon.

"Street to a Hothead."
Ben in Spokane.
Is that you?
Okay.
You're on the air.
Oh, heck.
How's it going, guys?
All right.
How can I help you today?
Well, just watching Bronson.
And you guys helped me out so much through my trauma with losing my brother.
But I got to tell you guys, I wish I could do the -- my phone is so stupid and
old.
I love it.
It's a dumb old phone.
And it's a slider.
And it's got the, you know --
The Nokia?
It's got the little -- the buttons.
Yeah.
No, it's like an LG like -- like one of the old -- like it's built like a tank.
And I've had it for years and years and I'm not letting go.
I'm not really like into the social media, you know?
Uh-huh.
But I would do Zoom just to be able to see you guys right now.
Well, don't you have a computer?
Some kind of -- do you have a computer?
Uh, what?
Do you have a computer?
I'm sorry, what?
Uh, no.
No, I don't.
Well, how are you listening?
We're going to send you one.
We're going to send you one.
How are you listening to the show?
Are we on Spokane's local radio?
AM radio or something?
Is somebody simulcasting the show?
How are you listening?
I'm talking -- I'm talking to you guys without watching you guys.
Oh.
Because I would -- every Thursday I would watch you -- watch you guys on
YouTube.
And I'm --
Are you listening to the show via the call-in number?
They can't do that, right?
That's not something --
I'm waiting.
I'm just listening to you right now.
And like --
I hear you.
Well, I'm just pacing and -- I'm watching the Bronson and just pacing back.
What's the Bronson?
Yeah, what's the Bronson?
Is that an old movie or something?
Like Chuck Bronson?
Bronson is a true story, yeah.
It's by the Nicholas -- with the weird name.
Oh, the one about the prisoner in England.
Okay.
Mom, do you know that?
Yeah, Tom Hardy plays this --
No, she don't know that.
Tom Hardy.
Yeah, it's a great movie.
Very violent.
Weird way to start the way, sir.
Mom, you're the one that told me about Bosch, so we have to talk about Bosch
later.
No, we don't.
You don't get to say what we're talking about.
We have to.
What, are you going to put a gun to my head?
No choice.
We have no choice.
It's such a boring show.
Wait, so this guy's watching Bronson and he's on the phone with us?
Yeah.
All right.
What's going on in Bronson right now?
What's going on in the moment?
Here's what we'll do.
BOSCH.
Matt, is it possible for him --
Oh, with me?
Or what?
Is it possible to mute him but keep him on the line so he can hear the show?
Yeah, absolutely.
Let's do that.
There you go.
That's nice.
Oh, so I can just listen to it.
Yeah, exactly.
Put your Nokia on speakerphone and --
You were hearing it before we brought you on, right?
It is.
And guess what?
It's blue to my ear and my tumor is getting braver and braver.
I don't want cancer.
Okay.
All right.
Thank you, sir.
How do you know this guy's not a put-on, T?
How do I know?
I don't, Doug.
There's no way to know nothing anymore.
Yeah, everything's a put-on, isn't that what --
He's a put-on.
What's that song by The Who?
Eminence Front.
Uh-huh.
It's a put-on.
What's a put-on?
Wait a minute.
Yeah, what --
Imagine -- imagine Roger Daltrey getting those lyrics.
Eminence Front.
Well, I think that's a solo key, isn't it?
It's an Eminence --
No, it's not.
Oh, why did I think that?
Eminence Front?
I think.
Let's take a look at the lyrics.
It's a put-on!
Yeah, let's take a look at these lyrics.
Let's get to the bottom of what Eminence Front --
What does that mean, Eminence?
I don't even know what Eminence's name.
That means the Front is definitely happening.
Hello.
Hey.
Hey, Pete, have you got words for the song yet?
Yeah, it is.
The sun shines and people forget
The spray flies as the speedboat glides
And people forget, forget they're hiding
Behind an Eminence Front
Eminence Front
It's a put-on!
What are you talking about?
It's a put-on.
Come and join the party.
Dress to kill.
Won't you come and join the party?
Dress to kill.
Dress to kill.
I won't get a Soho dog!
Ah!
Drinks flow.
People forget.
That big wheel spins.
The hair thins.
People forget.
People forget.
I like this.
Forget they're hiding.
The news slows.
People forget.
It's an Eminence Front.
What is it?
It's an Eminence Front.
What is it?
It's an Eminence Front.
What is it?
Oh, it's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It sounds good.
Tim, do you ever write lyrics that just, like, the words just sound good
rolling off the tongue?
Yeah, yeah.
Sure I do.
Well, there, that was an experiment I did with that old Heidecker and Wood band.
It was the song, Right or Wrong.
Better be right or wrong.
Okay.
Don't mean nothing.
Yeah.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It's a put-on.
It sounds good.
Tim, do you ever write lyrics that just, like, the words just sound good
rolling off the tongue?
Okay.
Don't mean nothing.
What else you got there in those ivories?
You got any who?
Those ivories.
Yeah.
What about the ebony's?
Do some minor keys or not?
No.
No.
We don't want to be sad.
Well, no.
You could do major songs.
Who want to do it?
Yeah.
I went for a walk on a winter's day.
I stay at home.
You know?
Like it was in L.A.
Yes, I was in L.A.
Anyways.
All right, thank you.
I know.
Nice.
Nice.
California dreaming.
Let's take a Zoomer now.
Keep things moving.
We haven't talked to this young fellow in a while.
Tanner York.
You're my mother.
He was a fan favorite a while.
Oh, yeah.
Hi, Tanner.
How are you?
How's everything going?
Can you unmute, Tanner?
Hello?
Hello.
Hello.
Hey.
How's it going, everyone?
Good to see you guys again.
Tanner looks like he should be on trial for murder in Wisconsin.
Oh, shit.
You know what I mean?
Coming in.
Wow.
No offense.
I can't see the Zoomers on the screen.
Oh, no.
Can't see the Zoomers on the screen, boys.
Oh.
You're not, you're not, there's not much to see, I'll tell you that.
Oh, I can see you on my little tiny screen here, but I can't, I'm going to need
that fix for my parquet courts interview.
Oh, yeah.
Great band.
Well, we'll see.
No, I've actually been enjoying this new record of theirs.
I think it's just what I need.
They have great, great bass parts.
Yes.
Really, really great, intricate bass parts.
I put on, well, I'll talk to them, just, let's just settle down, Tanner.
I'm going to talk to parquet courts about parquet courts.
I'm actually.
I'm sorry.
I'm not going to talk to you.
I got it.
About their bass playing.
So how can I help you today, Tanner?
What's happening in your side of the world?
Some big stuff.
In a few days, I'm going out to Asheville, driving four hours away in order to
audition on guitar for the college that I want to go to.
I'm going to UNC Asheville, I think.
I got to learn these jazz standards and things like that.
There you go.
Going to go to music school.
Well, to do the audio technology program, you need to get into the music school,
which is kind of weird, I guess.
But you need to learn an instrument with i
