Office Hours Music Night presented by Cann Social Tonics (4/30/22)

You know what trouble I'm going to get in with my little chicken skin.
Take it, Vic.
There it is.
I was having some chicken with my lady last night.
I grabbed a piece, then I took a bite.
And then I licked my fingers, got them real clean.
I think you'll like my little chicken skin.
All right.
Thank you, everybody.
Thank you, everybody.
Now, are we live?
Oh, we're live, baby.
All right.
Ladies and gentlemen, we're not here.
We're not going to have a...
This is just a little tease.
We ain't going to have no blues jam in my garage today.
That's not the kind of people we are.
Oh, I like that.
That's the sound of Office Hours, Doug.
Well, isn't it?
Yeah, that's the first slide.
Yeah, it starts with the bass slide, yeah.
Well, we are here Saturday night in...
Luke, can I get even more volume off my mic?
You're being very stingy with me.
Thank you.
Yeah, so this is Song Night at Office Hours.
First time we're doing this.
I've got some very, very special guests here in the studio live.
First, we have Brian Robert Johns.
Brian, tell us a little bit about yourself.
People might not be, you know...
Give us who you play with.
What's your deal?
Sure, sure.
I've played with a bunch of people.
I've played with Vampire Weekend.
Hey-oh!
Played a little with Gwen Stefani.
Hey-oh!
Little, uh...
Little Moona.
Hey-oh!
Who?
Oh, no.
Who?
Who that?
They're my friends.
Okay.
They're a great band.
Start there, then go to Stefani, right?
Sure.
I played with Luna.
Wait, what is it?
Moona.
Moona.
Yeah.
Maybe the crowd is laughing at me.
They're like, we know who Moona is.
It might.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
You do?
I do.
There you go.
And so you're going to be...
We're playing some guitar.
Spending some time with us.
Yeah, of course.
This afternoon.
Absolutely.
This evening.
Eric Slick, of course, everybody knows.
Hello.
Eric.
Hi, everyone.
Eric Slick, a solo artist.
I played in Dr. Dog.
Percussionist.
Yeah.
Drummer for Dr. Dog.
Yeah.
Deceased Dog.
The Deceased Dog.
Retirement.
Early retirement.
Yeah.
We're in 401k.
Right.
Yeah.
Well, got out while the get one was good.
On top.
Yeah.
Then we got DJ Doug Pound on the bass guitar.
Oh!
Rough.
Rough, doggies.
I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm...
multi-instrumentalist Victor Berger.
Good evening, Tim.
What key is that song?
Because if you're starting...
I think it's in D.
I don't know.
If you're starting a...
Probably.
Tails on!
We'll put them what key is it.
D and then G.
We're not going to do that to you.
We're not...
This isn't weekend dads getting together to play the blues.
We're going to write a top ten song.
Yeah.
Top ten, right?
Top ten.
Charting.
Yeah.
One, two, three.
One, two, three.
One, two, three, five!
It's all going blue.
It's all going blue.
All right.
Well, she was just 17, and you know what I mean.
And the way she danced was way beyond compare.
All right.
First song on the first Beatles album.
We are gathered here today.
Let me just do this.
We've got a couple things Matt wants me...
By the way, welcome back.
Captain Carlin is in the studio.
Right as rain.
Thank you.
Tested negative.
Thank you.
There's my camera.
Where's your camera?
It's over there.
Way over there.
Okay.
Wow.
Listen to this, folks.
Office Hours Music Night brought to you...
I'm going to read what you wrote.
You should.
It's a complete mess.
Office Hours Music brought to you canned social tonics.
Whoops.
Uh-huh.
Total Toe.
Total Toe.
Yeah.
This is what I'm working with, folks.
That brought to you by...
I'll do the work in real time.
Brought to you by canned two Ns.
Is that like the band canned?
Were they the German?
No.
What's their vibe?
They're like angular German...
That's the vibe.
That's the canned vibe?
Or...
These just sound like two random drumbees.
Exactly.
But within context.
Okay.
Let's show it on the can-cam.
You guys know about the can-cam yet?
Oh, sure.
Is that the can-can, right?
No, the can-cam.
I know, but the music can-can is...
That must have been fun when somebody locked into that.
Turn right ahead.
All right, we're half a sentence through the commercial, so...
And we're 20 minutes in.
Brought to you by canned social tonics, who just released their new blue rueberry
flavor
with Adam Devine.
Oh, Adam Devine from Workaholics.
That sounds the very same.
And Ease.
Can with two Ns is California's number one selling THC.
Uh-oh.
Wow.
Wait, what?
Wild mind-expanding stuff.
You've been spiked.
Hey, man.
Yeah.
Microdose to give you full control and no next-day regrets, man.
So, cheers to Ken and to you.
Check him out at...
I'm KenSocialTonics.com slash blue...
Hold on, I didn't get the URL.
Blue H-U Berry.
Blue...
Blue rueberry.
And I haven't even started drinking this stuff.
And they got...
There's no cannabis in the one I'm having here.
So, listen.
We are going to be taking Zooms today.
We're looking for...
Here's my...
This is my vision.
And it might not happen.
But it is for us to get some suggestions from the audience.
Almost like we're in that, uh,
Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Routine.
Colin Mochery.
What?
Who said what?
What?
I said Colin Mochery.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Wayne Brady.
A guy with the name Colin Mochery.
Of course he's going to get into comedy.
It's in his name.
Mockery.
Mockery.
Like how people named Dennis are more likely to become dentists?
We just talked about that on the show.
Is that true?
Oh, really?
They broke that up.
Is that a real fact?
I don't know.
Our guest, Jacqueline Novak, said it was too good to not be true.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
I say it's not true.
Okay.
I've done the research.
Let's take a zoomer, Matt, just to vibe, do a vibe check, make sure everything's
working.
My dentist's name is Mohler.
Yeah, definitely.
Let's talk to Andrew Campanella.
His first name is Mohler, Tim.
Inspire us with his guitar.
Hey.
Oh, no.
We don't put the guitar away.
Open the floodgates.
Rusty, really?
I got good stuff.
I got good stuff.
All right.
Let's hear it.
Let's hear you do the can-can.
All right.
I can do a little Dylan.
Did I ask for Dylan?
Well, I don't know.
What do you want?
I want the can-can.
Can you play the can-can?
Yeah.
This guy is so good that he's looking at me like, I don't know what I'm doing,
and he's
just doing it.
It's like, what is that?
That's how I'm going to kill him.
It's really good.
Yeah, it is.
It's like upside down.
Now, I'll give you a little-I'll give you a break.
Maybe we're getting used to this whole situation.
We're just looking for songs, subject titles, like inspiration, directions to
go in.
I mean, we could start with lyric stuff, but we could also start with, like,
what kind
of vibe do we want?
What kind of song?
We don't want to do the blues.
Get me out of that.
That's what we do.
Well, my chicken skin's ripe.
It's really, really sick.
It made me sick just the other night.
I like to fry my chicken skin tight.
I mean, that's the wrong vibe.
That's totally the wrong vibe.
Isn't that the same thing we just did?
Pretty close, yeah.
Chicken skin?
A lot of chicken stuff.
A lot of blues and a lot of chicken.
Hunger.
Huh?
Metaphorical hunger, if not literal.
Hunger.
Hunger.
Hmm.
I got the hunger
in my gut
about to bust a nut
All right.
See you now.
We're falling back into slow blues.
Maybe start with a different key.
I don't know.
Different key.
All right.
Well, thank you for getting us the word hunger.
Matt, if we could keep track of the word hungry.
Brooklyn show was awesome.
Brooklyn show was killer.
Thanks, brother.
Thanks, Andrew.
How do you play hungry hard?
Oh, that's in B, I think.
Every man.
And then it goes to G sharp.
And then E major.
I don't know what song you're talking about.
I don't know what song you're talking about.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I went up for a ride
and I never went back.
I don't know what song you're talking about.
I don't know what song you're talking about.
I don't know what song you're talking about.
I don't know what song you're talking about.
Everybody's got a hungry heart.
Everybody's got a hungry heart.
All right.
We got that.
Thank you very much.
How about somebody else, Matt?
Yeah.
I think Mary.
Mary, can you inspire us tonight?
Mary, Mary, where are you going to sing?
There's a lot of songs about you.
Wait, I can't hear anything.
Oh, hello, Mary.
How are you?
I'm good.
How are you?
Oh.
What's that behind you on the top of your door there?
The top of that door?
A pull-up bar, I think.
A what?
Pull-up bar?
Yeah.
Go ahead.
Show us.
It's a cat stand.
Oh, that's great.
That's cute.
Oh, wow.
Who's that joker?
Who's that joker?
It's Paolo.
Paolo, get the fuck out of here.
Why don't you go out and get a drink somewhere, huh?
Why don't you go out with your friends?
We're busy now.
We're coming up with a song.
Paolo's got ideas.
Okay.
All right.
All right, Paolo.
Let's hear it.
All right.
I apologize.
Tim could have said that.
It would have been cool.
If only.
Oh, I can't hear anything.
Hello, hello.
Hello, hello.
I think I can hear it.
What do you need?
A couple of words.
Throw us a couple of random words,
and we'll start improvising a song.
Tim, I have an idea real quick.
What if we...
Stand by, Doug.
Okay.
Okay.
Ideas, words.
Liquid.
Liquids.
Liquids.
Okay.
Oh, there we go.
See, Vic might need to drive this engine a little bit.
A minor and G minor nine.
Oh, sorry.
A minor seven flat five.
That's me.
A minor seven flat five.
Then G minor.
When the water
Flows down
Oh, the children make a sound
Oh, see, I need to be able to hear myself better.
I'd be singing so much better if you could hear...
This is nice, though.
Let's keep jamming on this.
Got it, Doug?
This needs a very strong bass.
Listen, I'll be like Art Garfunkel.
It needs a very strong bass ball.
So here's A.
One.
One.
And then G.
I'm a little...
Can I...
There you go.
There you go.
Luke, I need a little reverb, please.
Just a little two?
I need reverb.
I can't access the sound of my voice if it's dry.
We need texture, and we need the rhythm of the slapback.
It's not that hard.
Look, and here we go.
River, river, river.
In the river, I threw my lady.
Down by the river, I met my lady.
Down below, in the river.
I met my lady.
In the river, where do we go?
In the river, I met my lady.
Down by the river, I saw her go.
Down by the river, I met my lady.
I met my lady, down below.
Yeah, you changed there.
I met my woman.
Yeah, yeah, that was good.
So let's back it up now.
It sounded like, yeah, it was like a C, it goes to C.
What do you think of that, down through?
Whatever you were playing was, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river, I met my lady.
Down the river,
