SNLs Sarah Sherman Retires from Comedy | Joy Tactics Podcast | EP.6

This is the people behind the curtain. None of them are wearing headphones.
There is a field recorder in a cup.
In a cup on top of...
Empty box of cheeses.
This is the most bunk-ass podcast podcast.
Welcome to Joy Tactics, the podcast dedicated to all things joyful, joyous,
and meeting as many celebrities as humanly possible.
Hosted by Eric Rahill, Nate Veroni, and Jack Bensinger.
Enjoy.
Look at me.
Well, look at me, too.
Do a retirement announcement right now.
Face your fears.
That's what Joy Tactics is about.
No clowning.
Quit right now, for real.
This was the last appearance of you.
And then it's off to the woods.
That would be so good, Sarah, if this is your last fucking...
Yeah, if we had the last...
And then we're not...
Like, we hate to be the one.
We selfishly don't want you to quit, but if you have to, quit on our podcast.
Nate, Eric, Sarah, Jack, Sarah, Dan, Dan, I'm done taking up space.
Oh, a little louder.
A little louder, yeah.
A little louder for people in the world.
I'm done taking up space, and I think it's time for me to disappear.
I feel like you're joking.
My God, this is dark.
And go to grad school and do something that is going to help other people for
once, and
stop being loud and talking and making everybody pay attention to me, and
actually divert my
attention to something meaningful, like...
Podcasting.
Go to grad school for podcasting?
Wow, Sarah.
Wow, Sarah.
No, and then we get to go, what the fuck are you talking about?
That's what I mean.
That's the thing about retiring is like, everybody, you've all cherished my
work up until this
point, and it is now time for me to preserve the legacy I have.
Retiring is pathetic.
It's too self-important.
It's pathetic.
Is that what you're saying?
Well, it's like, what, like, if I, like, it's, it's like if I retire, you know,
if I retired,
it'd be like, I don't know.
But if you were like, I'm retiring, it's like you're preserving in ice this
beautiful legacy
of work that you've made.
You know what I'm saying?
I'm going to be retiring so fucking much, so many times in my career.
That's why they put the re in front of us so you could do it again.
Jay-Z did it.
It's not called tiring.
Eric.
All right, we'll cut that, too.
We'll cut that, too.
No, that's all right.
I'm just saying, I'm saying, that's how many times I'll be retiring.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Sarah, if you, you probably met probably, how many celebrities now?
A hundred?
A hundred.
Out of all the celebrities you haven't met, who do you want to meet so badly
and get
all fucked up with?
Johnny.
Johnny Naxville.
Oh, wait.
I've actually met Johnny Naxville.
Oh.
Really?
But I didn't.
Oh, my God.
Wait, tell us.
It wasn't in a hanging out situation.
How tall was he?
Tall.
Oh, my God.
But he's who I would want to hang out because I actually don't want to meet any
celebrities
because I don't want to deal with the shame and humiliation.
I'm like, oh, no.
I'm like, oh, I'm not doing a good job.
I would feel unselfconscious around him.
Unselfconscious.
I would feel, if I was just hanging out with him, hilarious style.
I would feel at ease.
All right.
Role play.
I'm going to be Johnny Naxville.
Ready?
Bung, bung, bung, bung, bung.
Hi, I'm Johnny Naxville.
Welcome to the...
That's the Jackass theme song.
That was the Croatian Jackass.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
What was that?
That was I'm Borat.
Croatian Jackass.
Welcome to the Croatian Jackass.
The Kazakhstan Jackass.
What the fuck?
That would be so off the chain.
They'd be doing the craziest fucking style pranks on there.
Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan.
Because Zach is...
I'm going to just shit my belly button.
I feel like the audio is going so crazy where it's busting people's plugged-in
headphones.
Yeah, but that's part of the modern vibe.
If you ever heard of Exitension, he kind of invented the blonde-out thing.
The three of you are in so much physical.
I wish we had a video version of this.
This would be...
Oh, my God.
I'm so sweaty.
I'm sweating so hot.
The four of us are on one hotel bed.
We're having to plank.
Sarah's the only one on the bed, and me, Nate, and Eric are basically planking
off the side.
I feel like I got a fever coming on.
I think you guys are afraid of being near me.
I'm going to say it.
No, we're not.
You are.
No, we're not afraid.
We respect your space.
This is a women's first...
Hey, yo.
Sorry, sorry.
All right.
So, Jack, you be role-playing as Johnny Knoxville, and Sarah, and you interact
with Jack.
Okay.
Okay.
Hey, man.
Don't be nervous.
I know that I did that thing where I got shot in the belly, but I'm not like
that in real life.
In real life, I'd fucking hate to get shot.
No, totally.
Do you want to go get a sandwich or something, and then maybe we can go...
Oh, I really want to see that new movie that came out.
What?
Oh, Ant-Man.
What's that guy?
He's good.
Oh, yeah.
I'd love to do that.
Maybe we can go...
Yeah, maybe we can go see Ant-Man.
And then after...
And then...
Yeah, that'd be so fun.
I'll let...
What time's the movie at?
We need to do an improv set right now.
All right.
Right the fuck now.
No, I'm...
So, my Johnny Knoxville impression is a little bit good.
All right.
So, what we just learned is that Sarah's going to get along with Johnny Knoxville.
Do you see how casual I mean that I was just now?
I didn't say anything about like, oh, your eyeball fell out.
I didn't say any of that.
What?
I acted like he was...
When his eyeball fell, he fractured this...
What's it called?
The optical bone?
Is that why he's wearing those glasses for so long?
That's why he was...
Ray-Ban?
Oh, the indoor...
I was wondering why he's wearing those sunglasses inside.
His eye fell out.
His eye fell out.
His eye fell out because he fractured this bone.
When he was doing the movie that was like at the theme park, adventure park.
Oh, yeah.
But did you see, I didn't make it about Johnny Knoxville, the celebrity.
No.
I didn't say, hey, I actually worked on the Jackass movie for six hours.
I didn't say that.
Right.
And I'm not saying that right now.
To bring it up, to remind everyone how awesome I am.
I was treating him like a human being.
I was saying, that's what I would say to you.
That was the first time today that I felt like a human being.
Because I treated you with respect.
I treated you with respect.
I said, do you want to get a...
Movie.
Do you want to get a movie?
Ant-Man's all.
You want to go see that?
Good to meet you.
You want to go see Ant-Man?
Exactly.
That's what we got to be talking to strangers like.
Sarah, I've seen...
Actually, I've seen all of y'all interact with celebrities in different ways.
But mostly Sarah.
And Sarah has a way...
For real, Sarah?
When you're talking to a celebrity, they might as well be a barista.
No offense to baristas, but barista.
You know what I mean?
Where you are...
But in a good way, it's like you're talking to a barista.
Because the barista is the person you know them every day more than anybody.
You're connecting...
Instead of the coffee, you're connecting about humanity, which is what you just
said.
And you've got a...
I mean, all of us have a talent for mingling with Famous at 6.
Yeah.
But Eric, you are...
It's an art.
Eric, you are the celebrity...
You're the celebrity.
The celebrity whisperer.
You're the celebrity.
What do you mean?
I probably met three celebrities.
Oh, no.
You didn't realize it because you're so...
Oh, well...
Because you don't...
Say more.
Say more.
Because you say...
When you talk to a celebrity, you're like, what's your name?
I didn't even...
Oh, yeah.
I kind of neg them.
No, but...
Yeah, yeah.
You have to do that a little bit, I feel like, with them.
Well, Nate, you meet a celebrity, and you kind of like...
I'm just stone-faced cold.
I'm like, who the fuck are you?
What's your name?
Even though I know exactly who they are, and I'm a huge fucking fan of theirs.
Well, Nate, you look like a celebrity the most.
But you and Sarah have a celebrity riz.
Nate has undeniable swabs.
Sexy, Nate.
You look like a Croatian...
I look like a celebrity from another country.
Like, somebody who flew in, and they're like, that guy's not famous here, but
somewhere else.
They're somewhere in the world where he's famous.
Oh, he does a fucking voice...
Yeah, a voice song.
You look like you'd be successful in something that you have to focus hella
hard on.
Like a Rubik's Cube, or like some type of...
Like, I can just imagine it being so fucking serious.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And that's what's on TV.
It's like, you're so serious.
You have the director glasses.
I do.
I do have the director glasses on.
And you look like you do TM.
You do.
And guess what I do, and I talk about it too much.
You want to see?
I took a video.
I was walking through.
We were just in Atlantic City, as you know by now.
Maybe not.
When does this episode come out?
I don't know.
We don't know.
All right, so you know...
You have to edit it.
Hella.
Okay, well...
Hella.
Let's do it take a little shot.
We were just in AC, Atlantic City.
And I was walking down, looking for the pool, in like a giant labyrinth maze of
a hotel.
And who do I see with a nose strip on, sitting on a bench in an abandoned, with
his eyes closed
in an abandoned hallway, his neighbor on doing meditation.
And his eyebrows are twitching around like a bacon on a griddle.
Really?
My...
Wait, you do TM as well, Sarah.
No, you do.
No, I cannot tune in and drop out.
Really?
Tune out the nose.
When I do meditation, something happens to my face.
You want to see?
And I don't know.
And I went to a kind of...
There's like a refresher where you kind of like relearn meditation.
And I asked them, like, is your face kind of supposed to like, you know, move
in the
ways that it does when I do it?
And the meditation teacher was like, kind of brushed it off and was like,
everyone kind
of meditates in their own way.
And I was like, what are meditations like for you?
Like, I was like trying to like put the ball in her court and she was like, it's
just like
yours.
Like, Sam and Zach is mine.
And I was like, but do you, does your face kind of move all crazy and weird?
I don't know.
Maybe I'm doing a different type of meditation.
Are you cognizant?
I am.
Your face moving while it's happening?
Yes.
Yeah.
It just like twitches.
Like there's a twitching, like, it kind of looks like this.
Like where my eyebrows are kind of like, your eyebrows look like cataclysmic
moving up
and down.
I wonder if you're dehydrated.
Maybe.
Wait, no.
I remember I told you this.
I am over hydrated, but maybe that's it.
Eric's dehydrated.
He just got up and started shaking the hot air.
Is there not a damn AC?
Hold on.
Let's check.
Pause.
Let's see if there's something cold air in here.
While Jack figures out the AC, I'm actually going to lob all of my theories
about your eyebrow
waggling.
Okay.
All of your manic, all of your, like, and I'm not calling it labeling you as
manic, but
maybe all of that manic energy that you have throughout the day that kind of is
your motor,
is your engine.
When you're tuned in and dropped out and you're in your meditation zone, maybe
it, all that energy
gets channeled into the microfacial muscles.
That, that has to be it.
I've never heard a better, I feel like you just unlock something inside of my
meditation.
Well, I, because I'm wondering.
I understand it more.
What is your visualization when you're meditating?
Is it like there's a cord of what, or is it numbers?
Blackness.
Total dark blackness.
Is it really?
There's nothing.
As you dive deeper into the darkness.
Oh, but it's diving.
But you, I mean, you dive, but you're diving deeper into nothingness and
darkness.
But do you feel yourself, like, like, do you feel yourself falling in any kind
of way or
like, because I'm trying to like, I'm like, well, maybe you're picturing like,
it's something
face forward or something.
Hmm.
You guys talking about microfacial muscles?
A little bit.
Yeah.
Um, hmm.
Because I'm wondering if the, your eyebrows are a manifestation of whatever
visualization
you'r
