Occupy Wall Street: A Tragic Poem in the Language of Protest | Joy Tactics Podcast | Ep uh like 113

Please.
You want to have the proletariat diddy party?
That's what P stands for?
The P-E-A-R-I-T-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I-A-R-I
The proletariat diddy party?
You know, it's nothing for us to laugh at, and I take back that laugh because
it's not funny.
The blue-collar freak-ups?
Yeah, please.
Welcome to Joy Tactics, the podcast dedicated to all things joyful, joyous, and
meeting as many celebrities as humanly possible.
Hosted by Eric Rahill, Nate Veroni, and Jack Bensinger.
Enjoy.
The year is 2011.
Oh, wait, what?
Jesus Christ.
No, it's November.
What do you mean April?
Well, you don't understand what I was going to do.
I was going to make a call to action.
Oh, all right.
Oh, okay, okay.
Go for it.
April 1st, 2025.
Every single tactician, we are gathering in New York City, in the financial
district, and we are bringing back Occupy Wall Street.
And this time, we are going to be occupying it for a very long time, however
long it takes, until our needs and demands are fucking met.
But this isn't going to be like the 2010 one, where everyone looked poor and
became dirty from occupying for too long.
We will be bringing food trucks, taco trucks, fucking blue moon beer will be
provided by the company.
No orange at all.
Yeah, it's not going to be on the street.
It'll be in the hotels surrounding the Wall Street area.
Exactly.
And it's going to go beyond Wall Street.
We're not just occupying Wall Street this time, dumbass.
We're occupying Bleeker.
We're occupying Houston.
We're occupying Soho.
We're occupying...
We're occupying...
Where else?
The West Village Center.
Chelsea Market.
We're occupying culture.
We are occupying America.
Mm-hmm.
Chaining ourselves to something.
I don't know.
People need to...
I feel like that shit works when you chain yourself to a door or something like
that.
Yep.
Because then they have to come out and saw it off.
They must be so...
They must be so pissed off when somebody just said...
I feel like we got the...
This is maybe two episodes in a row where we got the nasal laugh.
Just imagine it so I'm fucking...
Well, because you have to be mad serious.
Like, you're brought in with a bandsaw.
It's like, God damn it.
We got to get the fucking...
The chainsaw or whatever out.
And we got to fucking saw this fucking piece of shit.
Nate, I got to warn you, though.
You better tie those chains tight.
Because you don't have a lot of runway in terms of body fat.
And you go about two days without eating.
I saw you at Disneyland when you broke that fast.
You're skin and bones, dude.
You're going to slip through any man-made chain.
So you got to design that shit to be very tight.
I'll just hold you.
I'll hold you down.
A human chain?
The human chain?
The human chain.
I paid him.
He's not got to pay him.
I'm paying him 500 a day.
Don't let me up.
Man.
We do need something like this to happen immediately.
I think we saw what happened when Luigi Mangione tried to chain himself to a
bullet and launch himself into a man.
The body.
Right.
That didn't work out in terms of causing a global uprising, which is the impetus
for this podcast.
Obviously, if you're not tuned in by now about that.
So, I mean, I've been saying this lately is it's fucking over for every hoe in
the world and back as soon as I figure out what my beliefs are.
Same.
Once I can lock down how I really feel.
Once I have an opinion, that's when I become activated.
I've been trying to have an opinion literally about this shit, about the world,
because a good thinker, they spend time listening, observing.
Might we remember the ants, the ants from Lord of the Rings?
If you will remember, there's a whole fucking forest of very smart trees that
can walk around like human beings, have deep voices, and they're ancient as all
fucking hell.
And what's happening in Lord of the Rings is Sauron, a fucking evil elf who's
become very powerful.
Sauron is not a fucking elf, dude.
He's something.
And I think he did take the form of an elf.
He's a wizard, bro.
Right.
He's a wizard.
He's something.
He's evil.
He's a wizard.
He's not something.
He's a wizard.
Is he a fucking wizard?
You're thinking Sauron.
I'm thinking of Sauron.
You want me to Google it?
The evil old guy?
That's the...
That hangs out with Gano?
That's Sauron, dude.
You've been confused by their names.
Then who's Sauron?
Sauron's the fucking I.
He's a Maiar.
He's obviously a Maiar.
Right, right, right.
M-A-I-A-A.
Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
Nate, by the way, you are in the running to be playing Sauron once that beard
gets all
white and long.
Does Sauron talk?
I forget.
Oh, bro, Sauron, are you kidding me?
He used to be boys with Gandalf.
Oh, they love talking.
Gandalf doesn't chill with anybody.
So the eye says shit in it?
The eye used to be a man, dude.
And then Isildur, a man, cut off his ring.
A prequel?
The finger with the ring up on it?
A whole-ass fucking prequel?
Mm-hmm.
Starting his arm on?
After he cut off the ring, he became spirit form, and that's when he becomes
the fucking
eye.
All right?
So you're telling me there's a dude carrying another dude around with him in
the form of
an eyeball?
Have you seen the movies?
No.
You know that crazy tower with that eye that's on fire that sees everything?
Remember him?
I didn't see Mordor?
I didn't see the movies.
Bro, I'm trying...
All right.
Well, the point I'm trying to make is there's a whole forest of...
Sauron's evil.
He's searching for the ring, scorched earth style.
He's trying to get that thing back so he gets full power again.
And there's the fellowship that's trying to go destroy the ring against his
interests.
That's when...
And when things get really hairy, Pippin and Merry, two small hobbits, escape
into the
forest and are snatched up by the Ents.
And the Ents have the power to help out, but they take about literally two
fucking months
to decide.
They're very slow thinkers.
All I'm trying to say is we are the Ents when it comes to the Occupy movement,
and we're
slowly making the decision, just like them.
Hey, look, I'm going down on my fucking...
I'm going down on my puppet, shadow puppet.
It doesn't look like...
It looks like you're trying to suck on a snake.
I could do that, too.
The sexual puppet, shadow show.
There you go.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
There you go.
Now that's just kissing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Look at it a little bit.
Damn.
If you guys are listening, once again, you're missing out on some crazy visuals.
But yeah, here's my question.
Was the Occupy Wall Street movement, the original one, what came from that?
Like, what...
What happened?
There he is.
There he is.
You don't think that looks just like Nate already, Jack?
Saruman.
That's Sauron.
That's Saruman, dude.
Oh, that's Saruman.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
I don't know why he made that so confusing.
That is my ideal fucking...
Form.
Yeah.
That's you if you cannot jerk it for the next fucking six years.
You're going to look like that.
Semen retention.
At age 40, yeah.
What happened from the last Occupy Wall Street?
I can't be sure.
Well, obviously what happened is it sparked a wave of cultural consciousness
that we can
use collective action to make waves and they were the pioneers of that on
social media and you've
seen it in the effects of the service sector and gig economy workers beginning
to band
together and unionize at many locations, Ben and Jerry's, REI, Amazon, and I
don't know
exactly what they did at Occupy Wall Street or why they were there.
or what happened afterwards or what it was all about at all.
But based on vibes, I could tell that it changed a lot.
Well, vibes just aren't enough is what I'm saying with this.
Yeah, I'm getting to the point in life where vibes aren't enough for real.
So, here's the thing then, because all that the Occupy Wall Street people
brought was vibes,
right?
What we need when we do our movement is demands.
In a hell of a way.
Everybody, real quick, can we go in a round robin style and I want everyone to
say what they
think caused Occupy Wall Street, who did it, and then, and why, you know what I'm
saying?
What caused it?
Greed.
Who did it?
Um, uh, fucking, the people.
The working class.
The working class.
The proletariat.
What was the other question?
Rose up.
Specifics, Nate.
Specifics.
Specifics?
What?
Why do I have to get specific?
You know that's the truth of the matter.
In specificity.
Specifics are for fucking.
It's for the elite, dude.
Listen to me now.
They want to confuse us with specifics.
None of us know what Occupy Wall Street is.
Yeah, bro.
Oh, listen to this statement now.
In specificity, uh, dies, uh, in specificity, passion dies.
Right.
You see what I'm saying?
You get too specific, you start to lose passion.
That seems to be wrong.
Here's what happened.
I'm pretty sure in 2008, there was.
The banking bailout, bro.
The bailout.
There was bailouts.
There was the housing bubble.
Recession.
Uh, there was a recession.
And the people were just like, I think we've had enough of this shit.
And we got to get a little creative here.
We got to go camp out and just sit in front of Wall Street and just make our
presence known.
All right.
All right.
All right.
Jack, tell us what happened.
Because it's been so long, I've distanced myself on purpose to forget the
trauma of that time.
I mean, I'm trying to read it.
It is with, it is along the lines of following the bailouts of the banks and
whatnot after the 2008 housing crisis, after the Great Recession, during the
aftermath of the Great Recession.
Yeah.
The people came together around, against corporate greed, in the form of left-wing
groups.
Um, and that's what I'm saying.
Main issue raised by Occupy Wall Street, where social and economic inequality
create corruption and the undue influence.
There is something that we didn't allow in my household growing up called platitudes.
Do you know what these are?
Describe them, please.
Yeah, I know all about platitudes.
Basically, a platitude, I don't know exactly what it is, but it is something
akin to a blanket statement, usually spoken within politics, signaling to kind
of obvious things that we can obviously all agree on.
Okay?
Uh, what I, what, but, where Occupy Wall Street messed up, is they need to, is,
we need to be able to say, yo.
You don't like tactics.
Hold on, man.
I got this.
We need to be able to say, yo.
Uh, what was wrong with that?
What was wrong with Wall Street?
Do they need, does every single person need to be Luigi Mangione?
And we all say, yo, let's divvy up, uh, all the companies and everybody just
take out one CEO.
I'm going to get Mike and Ikes.
You get fucking Bennett, not Ben and Jerry's, because we're rocking with them,
I think.
Uh, Crest.
You know what I'm saying?
Dress.
Dude, time to take Crest the fuck out.
Oh, Crest and the Jujubees, whoever owns the little hard little candy.
Nah, nah, keep the Jujubees, man.
I like that type of, that is one hard fucking gummy.
I think that's something a hundred percent of us can agree on.
A little too fucking hard for my taste.
75 hard.
Make them softer.
75 hard.
No one needs to do it.
We didn't even talk about it.
We didn't do it.
There was no.
No, because I'm waiting until after my trip.
Your surgical trip.
Uh, what surgery are you talking about, man?
Which one?
It's a cavity, cavity filling.
Wink, wink, wink.
I'll fill out your cavity.
Oh, Jesus, man.
All right, here's, you want me to read an origin?
Can we chop that out?
For real, chop that out.
Yeah, we'll chop it out.
We'll do it next time we put the episode out.
We'll chop it out.
Chop it out.
What about, all right, here's the origins.
Ready?
I'm reading.
The original protest was called for by Callie Lassen.
Okay.
Micah White and others.
Micah White?
Adbusters.
Yeah.
Let me guess, these people are all mysteriously fucking dead right now.
Well, there's another conspiracy I'm realizing immediately.
These people are members of a C
