You know, folks, in these days of rising prices and shoddy workmanship, it pays
to be either
a well-informed consumer or a shoddy workman.
Well, as a public service tonight, we'd like to share with you some money-saving
tips from
Dave's Consumer Corner.
Here we are in Dave's Consumer Corner.
Thank you very much, Paul.
That's the official anthem of Dave's Consumer Corner.
Well, we opened Dave's Consumer Corner tonight with three medical tips.
Sure, your vision is important, but why spend hundreds of dollars for a new
pair of contact
lenses when you can get big savings on used contacts?
Now, most opticians make second-hand lenses available at low, low prices, but
here's the
trick.
Be sure to try them on first.
You know, careful grocery shoppers watch for the warning signs of botulism, and
they don't
buy cans that appear to be slightly swollen.
Well, here's a word to the wise.
The same holds true for canned goods that pulsate.
Be a smart consumer and pass them by as well.
This cost us about $8,000 right here.
And finally, from our medical file tonight, choosing a doctor is one of the
most important
decisions you'll ever make for you or your family.
Now, do this.
Select a physician who has graduated from an accredited medical college.
Now, if his diploma looks like this one, you may want to get a cab.
You may want to get a cab.
I certainly know that feeling.
Well, every year, thousands of Americans lose their savings on fraudulent
investments.
Tonight, let me remind you of the three most common financial schemes.
First of all, don't purchase swampland in Florida.
Secondly, don't buy the Brooklyn Bridge.
And finally, please don't fall for this one advertised in countless magazines.
Believe me, ladies and gentlemen, you're never going to make any money on the
mineral rights
to Lee Major's head.
Okay, where are we now?
Well, oh, here's some automotive advice.
A used car is a notoriously risky purchase.
There is no way to be 100% sure of what you're getting.
But here's one rule of thumb to keep in mind.
Avoid cars marked easy to assemble.
See, you're going to have trouble with that from the word go.
Well, here's a familiar consumer complaint.
You keep pouring money into the re-chiseling and upgrading and updating of the
family grave marker.
Well, you can avoid those staggering stonecutter's fees now with this,
the magic slate tombstone.
It can be added to...
It can be added to...
All of that can be accomplished by even the least handy member of the bereaved.
Yeah, I know.
I don't know why I was waiting on that.
That was just a pointless waste of time.
Well, here's a valuable tip.
Buying electrical appliances.
When you buy them, make sure the item is operating properly before you take it
home.
For example, now, if the customer who purchased this set had tested his TV
antenna at the store,
this nasty electrical short could have been noticed.
I don't know.
Now, what did this cost us?
Big dough, too, wasn't it?
Yeah, all right.
Okay.
Oh, I think we have...
Thank you.
I think we have one more here.
Finally, these made-for-TV hit record collections seem like a good investment,
but please, make sure you're getting the songs...
Where do you want it?
Ah, there you go.
Make sure you're getting the songs performed by the original artists.
Let's listen now to a few bars from this carefully crafted imitation.
We have a wonderful program, Belinda Carlisle from the Gorbos is here and many,
many other fine things.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
