Well, if there's a certain extra excitement in the air, it's because it's time
now for Dave's Talent Search.
You know, people are always coming up to me and saying, Dave, where are the
great actresses of tomorrow coming from?
Well, let's face it, talent will always be found where it has always been found,
right here in our studio audience.
Paul, what is it that they call me in this business?
Dave, they call you the star maker.
That's right, Paul, the star maker.
And by the business, we mean...
We, of course, mean the industry.
That's right, the industry.
So every woman in our audience tonight is going to have a chance to demonstrate
her talents by acting in a scene with one of Hollywood's greatest stars.
Yes, tonight, thanks to the miracle of this amazing record album, you're going
to co-star with Vincent Price.
Now, here's how it works.
Vincent will read a line of dialogue, then there will be a pause for you to
read your line.
Now, of course, our time is limited, therefore, I'd like all the women in our
audience to play this scene in unison.
Now, have you all received your scripts?
Oh, good.
Oh, good.
Then we can begin.
Of course, it would be hard to play a scene effectively opposite a disembodied
voice.
Certainly, that is correct.
So, we've prepared this lovely visual aid, ladies and gentlemen, to aid in this
audition.
Here it comes now.
Now, don't panic, this is not actually Vincent Price, but an incredible
simulation.
Tonight, you and Vincent Price will be performing the classic play Love Affair,
written by the great Jack Ragazzi,
who you'll remember from his other famous works, co-star with Don Amici, and,
of course, co-star with Tallulah Bankhead,
now pictured here on your screen.
Now, Love Affair concerns the love life of the painter Vincent Van Gogh,
and so we're going to dress Vincent Price accordingly.
Thank you very much.
We'll use this hat.
Put the hat on Vincent.
And, of course, the artist's smock.
And since he is playing Vincent Van Gogh, he really won't be needing that.
Now, is he all right?
I hate for him to catch a chill.
Now, the women in our audience will be playing Koch, the beautiful cousin whose
love Vincent Van Gogh seeks.
Now, you are in presently Vincent Van Gogh's sitting room, and the year is
roughly 1873.
Are you folks ready?
Yeah!
All right, let's begin the scene from Love Affair.
And in my search for God, I have found love.
Doesn't that mean anything to you, Koch?
Do you know what it is to love?
Love, love, love!
You are in love with love!
I want to shout it, to sing it, to dance with the world, to hold the pebbled
face of each lovely flower,
and to look at it and to know it's your face.
You are in Paris, Vincent!
Are you all right?
Yes!
In Paris?
It's only three months since my husband passed away.
So?
So, I'm just a little Greek.
Marry me.
You have solved me.
Am I so repulsive?
Loving you has made me like, like God.
Beautiful.
And now you blast me.
It wasn't bad enough.
You spoke to me as a power of one of those streets.
Now you take the name in May.
If you continue, I have no choice to leave me at the house.
And now, you'll excuse me.
God and love have only one, one heart, one soul, one pair of eyes.
She makes me think it is almost wrong to love.
Dear God, is it wrong?
Am I wrong?
Thank you very much, Tommy.
Thank you very much, Tommy.
That was a lot of fun.
How many of you are saying to yourself, now, geez, that was fun, but it really
didn't last long enough?
Thank you very much for your participation.
Please leave your photographs with the woman in the lobby.
And we'll be right back after you take a look at this with Deborah Harry.
