this is exciting my next guest is of course the musical director of this
program and we
couldn't be happier he also has a role in a new film that is open to rave
reviews all
across this great land of ours entitled this is spinal tap please welcome mr.
Paul Schaefer
thank you so much you know the people the people are right who do this show you
don't have to turn
around an awfully far away to see you is it the uncomfortable no it's fine all
right i'm thrilled
to be sitting here with you and uh now this film uh i saw it a couple of months
ago in california
very very funny film and as we mentioned getting great reviews for folks who
have not seen the film
explain it well uh i really don't know very much about it no no i have a very
small role in it really
and uh it's a rock and roll uh movie though in all seriousness it's been
described as a
as a rockumentary it's a parody of a of a rock documentary it's a rockumentary
it's a mockumentary
it's a rock you mock you documentary is what it is uh-huh and it's about far it's
about a british
heavy metal band and the guys are uh who play the band are uh chris guest and
michael mckean
and harry shearer who you may remember from one season of saturday night live
and i don't know
what harry's been on the show also he's in this now yeah and they're great in
the film by the way
they are terrific r.j parnell and uh david calf are the other two guys in the
film and they're a
little they're british a little bit out of date rock uh heavy metal sort of
along the lines of a
of a judas priest of a motley crew now we're gonna see how many more do you
have
of a uh who are the other you know feel the noise those boys it's at that time
but you know but
they're a little too old it's like their last desperate tour and rob reiner who
directed it
plays the very earnest documentary mock you rockumentary maker who interviews
them what's his name in the
film mike uh uh his name was was originally marty de broma which i thought i
always thought was the
funniest thing marty de burghie marty de burghie okay and we're gonna see i
believe this is your
only scene in the film if if we show this now yeah and anybody was gonna be
going to film to see
me there's really no reason to be because we're gonna we are now we are about
to see should we
really show it because we're sure yeah we're about to see my entire role in
this film all right
all right this is a paul schaefer his role and this is spinal tap
