Okay, we're almost out of time. This is the New York State Grand Champion in
baton twirling,
and she is also the National Baton Twirling Champion. This is Claudia Costa.
Claudia, how are you? Nice to see you. Thank you for being here.
I'm sorry tonight we've run out of time again, but we did want you to come out
so the folks could say hello to you,
and I hope you can come back some future time and actually do the twirling for
us.
How long have you been the National Champion?
Oh, I just won the National Championships back in August.
Congratulations. And what does a person win for doing that?
Well, I won the 20 and over two baton champion for Nationals, and all you get
is a trophy, really,
and just the honor of being National Champion.
Yeah, and then you'll be that until next year?
Yes.
Now, is there anything you can do for this professionally? Can you make a
living at this?
Well, I twirled for a Cosmos soccer team and the Giants and the Jets, but I did
not receive any money for it.
Oh, well, awfully considerate of them. You know, they're having a little
trouble with attendance over there at the stadium.
Well, I couldn't accept any money because that would change my amateur status.
Well, we could put it in a trust fund or something, couldn't we?
I guess so.
I think you get weaseled by these people.
No, I don't think so.
You also can twirl three batons.
Yes, I can.
Are you one of the few people in the world who can do that?
Well, three baton is up and coming, but I am the New York State Grand Champion
three baton.
In three baton?
Yes, and in one baton.
Now, do you ever get yourself beaten up with three batons?
Yes, sometimes they clash in the air and they'll come down.
Yeah.
Is there something you can do right here while we end the show, Claudie, and
then we'll have
you back and let you do a little more?
Sure, I guess I'll just...
Can you just stand right here and do something?
Well, I don't think...
I don't want to hit any of the lighting.
It would be possible.
No, it's all right.
It don't make any difference.
Oh, sure.
Believe me.
It doesn't...
No, it really doesn't make...
Just go ahead and do something.
I think maybe we have some music.
Yeah, go ahead, Claudie.
Whatever you need to do.
Okay, we have to go away while Claudie is doing that.
