I just have a feeling it's going to be a limited edition. Kind of a keepsake
for you here tonight.
You'll be sorry you missed this one. No home television. It's a Don King
classic. You can
only see it in theaters. Now, where was I? My first guest tonight has been
called the great white
father of blues, a legend in the music world, and a man who has influenced
hundreds of musicians
since he hit the scene in the 50s, as they say when you hit the scene in the 50s.
Please
welcome, ladies and gentlemen, Wayne Cochran.
If I do, I'm going to lose my mind, yeah. I can't turn you loose. If I do, Lord,
I'm going to lose my mind, yeah.
I can't tell you losing nobody
All I love you, baby, as I do, I really do
It takes all the longest luck
I'm gonna give all my luck to you, yeah, burning, baby
Come on, baby, why don't you
Give me all the love alone, baby, baby
Can't tell you losing
Love, oh, hold on
I can't tell you losing, baby
I can't tell you losing
If I do, I said I'd lose my mind, yeah
I can't tell you losing
Lord, I said I had my pride, yeah
I can't tell you losing nobody, na-na
Me, baby, as I do
I got, I got, I can't tell you losing
I'm gonna need you
I'm gonna give all my luck to you, yeah
Oh, baby, why don't you
Give me all the love alone, honey, honey, now
Can't tell you losing
Hold on, I'm gonna hold on
Can't tell you losing
I can't tell you losing
I can't tell you losing
Oh, you hurt my pride, baby
I can't tell you losing
I can't tell you losing
No, you hurt me down deep inside, yeah
I can't tell you losing my body
Got, got, got, got, got, got, baby
I do, I do, I do
Pick and shake and mama love you
I'm gonna give all my love to you
Oh, come on, baby, why don't you
Why don't you give me all the love
I got, got, got, got, got, got
Can't tell you losing
Oh, I got to hold on
Got, I got to hold on
Very nice, thank you for being here
Must be a thrill for you to be here
For Dave's Hobby Shop
And, uh, very
You know what?
That picture of you
Yeah
Looked just like Muncie, Indiana
Oh, no, it didn't, uh, didn't look that
Well, I don't want to say that
Middletown, USA
Yeah, Middletown
You spent some time there
One of the first, one of the first clubs you wrecked
Was in Muncie, Indiana, wasn't it?
Yeah
Now, why did you do that?
Why did you go into a town
And turn a guy's club over?
What was the point of that?
Well, I don't know
I just always believed to
If you get an urge
Back then I did
To do it
Mm-hmm
And I was out in the audience
It was on a Saturday night
And the crowd was really cooking
And I looked up
And there was a plate glass window
All the way across the front of the building
And immediately I thought
Of Randolph Scott
Yeah, really
You ever think about
What it felt like
To pick up a
A bar stool
And just
Go through the window
And I did it
But it was real strange
Because
The crowd was so noisy
And the band was really loud
And when the chair went through the window
And it broke
There was no noise
It was like
Almost slow motion
Because you couldn't hear the glass
It went
And the chair went
Right through the window
Right down the little hill
Across the street
And into a Corvette
Now this
This became part of the act
Pretty much
You went from town to town
Wrecking clubs, right?
Yeah, I got paid for it
No kidding
Yeah, isn't that crazy?
What were some of the other clubs?
Well, before we get into
Other clubs that you have wrecked
Maybe we can stir up
Some old lawsuits
As a matter of fact
Hey!
No, we're not going to do that
But we are going to pause here
And we'll be back
For more of Wayne Cochran
And of course
Dave Hobbyshire
Welcome back to the show
The gentleman is of course
Wayne Cochran
You influenced many, many
Huge music stars
Mick Jagger

The Blues Brothers
Used a lot of your

How do you feel about that?

I wouldn't
I wouldn't swap places

In my life
I've been born again
I've been filled
With the Holy Ghost
I've got a ministry
My wife's back with me
My kids are back with me
I have anything in the world
I need
Besides eternal life
Yeah
So I don't know of anybody
Past, present or future
That I'd trade places with
I'm ecstatic
And I'm just glad
That I did something
That somebody else
Thought was creative
I wish now
That I could influence them
Into what I know
Now if you wanted to
You could probably go back
Entertaining full time
And be a huge star
All over again
Couldn't you
You get that feeling?
Well, I don't know
I've been offered
Some really good contracts
But see
I've been called
Into a ministry
I go around now
In fact, I was in Lubbock, Texas
Last night

I'm going to Vegas

I used to tell
From hurting a lot
I used to tell people

Ladies and gentlemen
Richard Lewis
Will be out a little bit later
A film from
My dog Bob
And we twisted
Wayne Cochran's arm
He was kind enough

By seven
So
Pretty quickly here
We're not going to get into it
So
And now ladies and gentlemen
Here's Wayne Cochran
Singing
Jump
No
Pews
Wayne Cochran
You don't have to
Jump no pews
Run down no aisle
No chills run down your spine
But you'll know
That you've been
Born again
You know my hands didn't shake
The earth didn't quake
No stars fell from the sky
But I know
That I've been
Born again
Born again
You don't have to
Jump no pews
And run down the walls
No chills run down your spine
But you'll know
You know
That you've been
You've been
Born again
Born again
Yeah
It's not based on an emotional feeling
Of faith in God's word
And believing
Confess with your mouth
The Lord Jesus
And just believe in your heart
That God raised him from the dead
And the Bible says
You shall
Be born
Born again
Born again
Born again
You shall
Be born
Born again
Born again
Born again
And you shall
Be born
Be born
Born again
Born again
Born again
I'm not saying
What I'm not doing
You shall
You know
Be born
Be born
That I've been
Born again
And I know
That I've been
Come on
Born again
Born again
I want to hear you sing it
And I'm dancing
Say I know
I've been
Born again
Everybody sing this song
They be hearing it down there
Say I know
Born again
I've been
Born again
Born again
Say I know
I've been
Born again
Born again
Say I know
I've been
Born again
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Say I know
I know
Oh
Lord I know
Lord I know
I know
I know
I've been
I've been
I feel the power
Yeah
Of the Holy Ghost
Yeah
Lord I've had to rest
And now I've got the best
Yes
Power
Power
I've got the Jesus
I've got Jesus
And I've been
Born again
Born again
Wayne Cochran
Thank you Wayne
Thank you very much
Wayne Cochran
Wayne Cochran
Wayne Cochran
I was going to sing that one night
But I said no
Let Wayne do it
And so
Wayne decided we would
And
Tidy up some paperwork here
Okay
Wayne Cochran
ladies and gentlemen. Now, if you're a regular viewer of this program...

I used to tell people
Just tie yourself behind a donkey
Let them drag you
For about six months
Across the desert
And when you stand up
You can sing the blues
But it's from vocal abuse
It's from strain
Vocal abuse?
It's from strain
I've had two operations
Gemini
From my throat
Yeah
But it don't bother me now
I feel great
Let me ask you
Last time you were here
We discussed your hair
Which people
If they didn't see you
In the old days
May not know what we're talking about
But we have
And I know you'd be pleased with this
I certainly would be
We have photographic documentation
Of the way the man looked
What year do you suppose this was, Wayne?
Oh, that's probably around
1967
Yeah
He's weird, isn't he?
Now that's peculiar looking hair
Even then
Because I remember
As I mentioned last time
Seeing you in Muncie
And thinking to myself
Well, there's something
Something going on here
That we don't know about
I had fun
I never
I never lacked for attention
Yeah
And I never had no problem
With getting bored
All I had to do
Was put on some lilac outfit
With some deep purple velvet cape
And do my higher up
Tinted lilac
And go to some truck stop
On Saturday night
That's right
That's right
A lot of action
Yeah
That'll give you that rasp
In the voice too
After a couple of the visits
To truck stops
It's called survival
Yeah
Now how did you
First of all
Why did you do it
Your hair like that
Because
Now what, you keep looking
At your watch
Because we rehearsed
A great song, right, Paul?
You did
And I didn't get to do it

Come on, America
