Okay, last year on this program, we had some of the winners of the first annual
Invent America
contest. And tonight, we have some more winners from this year's competition
from all over the
United States. And we're going to talk with them beginning right here. This is
Siobhan Richie. Is
that right? Did I pronounce your name correctly? Where are you from, Siobhan?
Las Vegas, Nevada.
Oh, is that a nice town to live in? Yeah. Yeah, do you do a lot of gambling? No.
Mom and
dad let you sneak into the casinos and blow off lunch money? Siobhan, how old
are you? Nine. Nine
years old. Have you always wanted to be an inventor? Yes. Okay, and is this
your first invention?
Yes. All right, show us what it is. It's a horse wash. It's a horse wash? Yeah.
And this
is an easy way to wash a horse. Yes. Now, how do we wash horses before this?
With your
hand. With your hand. So this way. And hoes. And hoes. Hand and hoes. All right,
show us
how this works. Okay. The horse walks through and brushes grab it. And then
showers get it
wet. And then it comes through here and these chamois dried off. And then at
the end. Wait a
wait a minute. The chamois dry the horse off? Yeah. Will that work, do you
think? Uh, this piece. Yeah.
Where are you going to get brushes big enough for a horse like that? I don't
know. Yeah, well,
that's the problem for the boys done in research and development. You just come
up with the ideas.
Uh, do you have a horse of your own? Yes. Uh-huh. And, and of course, what
about hot wax?
Nice to meet you. Thank you very much for being here. You having a nice time in
New York?
Yes. All right, Siobhan. Thank you very much.
This, uh, gentleman's name is Matt Maylar. Is that your? No, Matt Halar. Matt
Halar. Right
there. What does it say, Matt? Um, uh, jacket packet. Huh? It's a jacket packet.
No, I know,
but it's your name. What does it say there? Oh, Matt Halar. No, it says.
Matt Maylar. That's right.
That's right. So, so why don't you just play along?
Um, Matt, Matt Halar. Where are you from, Matt?
Noonan, Georgia. Union, Union, Georgia?
Noonan, Georgia. Noonan, Georgia. And, and how old are you, sir?
Um, nine years old. Nine years old. Is this your first invention?
Well, no, I had, I made one last year.
Uh-huh. What was that?
It was, um, a thing for your nerfles, like, cause nerfles come, you don't, you
don't have
any word to do with them, so there's nothing to play with them, because they
just come, and...
You're, you're saying nerfles, aren't you?
No. Yeah. Okay.
This is a little random.
Um, and, and Matt, uh...
Matt, your, your invention this year is what?
A jacket packet.
A jacket packet. And, and what is this, and how did you come up with the idea?
Well, um, at school, um, my teacher always used to make me go outside with my
jacket,
and, um, I didn't have anywhere to put it, because I've been around and got hot.
Uh-huh. So sometimes you'd be outside playing, and you'd become too warm, and
you needed to take it off.
Uh-huh. And you didn't have anywhere to put it, put it, because you can't tatter
on your waist,
because it'll just fall off, because it's real big and heavy, and you can't put
it on a bush,
because it'll just...
Somebody will steal it.
Yeah, so, um, I invented this, that little bag thing, and it, Velcro's onto the
inside of your jacket.
So you fold your jacket up, you put it in the bag, and then what do you do with
the bag?
You just, um, put it on your back with these straps, so you can play and
everything with both your hands.
Pretty good idea.
Yeah, and, um, um...
Well, that's enough. That's enough. That's very impressive.
Now, will you be able to sell this to somebody, do you think?
Well, I don't know. I hope I can.
Yeah. Well, try and sell it to her.
Yeah.
Nice to meet you, Matt. Thank you very much.
Well, we're moving over here now.
You know, I could be the new Art Linkletter, couldn't I?
I have a feeling it's beginning to get that way.
Hi, your name is Jennifer Rhodes, right?
Yes.
Where are you from, Jennifer?
I'm from Atlanta, Georgia.
Also from Georgia. Have you been talking to Matt?
Are you over here?
No.
Are you? Oh.
It's, uh, it's that southern hospitality we've heard so much about.
Uh, Jennifer, uh, what grade are you in?
I'll be in sixth.
Sixth? And is this your first invention?
Yes, sir.
Okay, and what is it?
It's a toilet seat for overweight or fat people.
Is everything all right at home, Jennifer?
Is everything all right at home, Jennifer?
But this is, now people laughed, and I hope that doesn't embarrass you or hurt
your feelings,
but this is quite honestly, oh, what am I talking about?
It's, it's something people would need.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right, you want to show us?
Uh, we know how it works.
How, how would it work, Jennifer?
You would put it on a regular toilet seat.
In a minute, we're going to play What's in the House.
All right, uh, your name, sir, is Sachin?
Sachin.
Sachin Patel.
Patel?
Patel.
Patel, nice to have you here.
Sachin, where are you from, sir?
I'm from Platonia, Texas.
It's a little town between Houston and San Antonio.
I see.
And, uh, how old are you?
I'm eight years old.
And what grade are you in?
I'm going into fourth grade.
Mm-hmm.
Are you married?
No.
All right, sir, what is your invention?
Well, the name of my invention is Superconductive Electric Generation Air Transmission.
I, I was going to do that.
What, what does all of that mean?
Well, the way it works is the, should I turn around and see it?
Sure, well, I think we can see it right there.
All right, well, the electricity produced by the generator will go through this
pipe down here,
you can see, which has a wire in it, which is made up of yertium, barium,
copper oxide.
It will pump liquid nitrogen into it, which will make it, which will, and it
will attain superconductivity
at the temperature of minus 196 degrees Celsius.
And while it's going through, the electricity produced will go to the
residential neighborhood.
And the way it works is...
Yeah, that's very impressive.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
Will that, do you think that will actually work?
Will that actually work?
Is that a sound principle?
May work, but we may have to, I may have to change the structure, maybe.
Yeah.
Did you get a look at the giant toilet seat?
Yes.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
We'll be right back.
