Hi, welcome back. Dick Cavett is just on his way out, but we're all, we're
departing on good terms
and the book Eye on Cavett, and if there's not a book in there, it's a nice
folder for your
important papers, so look for that Eye on Cavett in August. You've been very
big about everything,
thank you. Thank you very much. Mr. Dick Cavett, nice to see you again.
Now, you know, we are still in the midst of vacation season, and there are
plenty of out-of-town
visitors in our midst here in New York City, but whether you're a tourist or a
native, there's
always something new to learn about this melting pot I like to call the Big
Apple, as we take you
on yet another world-renowned late-night tour of New York, New York. It's
always fun to take
out-of-towners on a tour of Chinatown to find something exotic on every corner.
Here we have
the special Chinatown Ducks, distinct because they have been slaughtered by an
ancient Chinese
method, they've been run over by a truck, and still see the tire treads. There
are a million
great places to eat, stopping here at the Big Joy restaurant, it's a lot of fun
if Big Joy
herself is there, and it's always an adventure tasting new and different foods.
This place
features a delicacy the Chinese call hot chocolate, tasting once you get used
to it. Most first-time
visitors to New York are shocked by the conditions on the Lower East Side,
where they're having
a terrible closet space shortage. Resourceful citizens have actually began
hanging their
clothing out in the streets.
But most of the beautiful holiday window displays are still up, and this year
window shopping is
as exciting as ever. No matter what your shopping needs, you're bound to find
just what you're
looking for somewhere in this wonderful city we call New York.
We're at the corner of Broadway and 22nd Street. This woman is Judy Brooks, and
Judy, what do we have here? What's the name of the store?
The name of the store is Just Bulbs, and that's exactly what we sell. Just Bulbs.
So, what all can you get here? Well, about 25,000 types of bulbs. Whatever you
want, we have all different colors, all different sizes, just Bulbs.
But seriously, what all do you have here? We have just Bulbs. We have low
voltage Bulbs. We have fluorescent tubes. We have bulbs that look like
fluorescent tubes or incandescent
lighting. We have Christmas trees. We look over there for bulbs. We have, just
like the store says, any kind of bulb we possibly need, any voltage, any wattage.
You don't have sandwiches here, do you?
Oh, maybe one or two in the back.
Okay, so besides bulbs, what do you have here?
Nothing.
How about Shades? Could you get Shades here?
No, we are just Bulbs. If you want Shades, maybe go in a place called Just Shades.
We sell nothing, but not.
This is Winnie Becker. Winnie, what is the name of the store?
Just Shades.
And what can you get in here?
What can you get in here? Lamp shades only. Some of them are ready-made, some
of them are custom-made.
Now, what else can you get besides shades in the store here?
Nothing. We sell some parts, but they're only shades. We do not sell lamps.
Only shades.
That's why our name is Just Shades.
Now, let me get this straight. You don't, you just sell shade.
That's all.
Now, if somebody wanted to buy bulbs, where could you sell bulbs?
No, we do not. Our primary interest is shades.
Have you ever thought about maybe just going crazy and selling lamps also?
Oh, no. Never. We do not sell lamps. Only shades.
That's why our name is Just Shades.
But seriously, what can you get besides shades here?
All right. Ron Silver will be with us right after you take a look at this.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
