Hey, Paul, how about some dialing music?
All right.
Okay.
So just take a second, we'll get this out of the way, and then we'll...
Oh, it's busy.
Hey, is somebody on that phone?
That phone's supposed to be empty at all times.
Running.
Hey, hey, get off that phone!
Hey!
Hey!
Get her off the phone!
We're trying to make a call here.
Hang up the damn phone!
Hey!
What the hell is going on?
We have to keep this line open at all times.
Put that phone down.
Here, here, put that phone down.
Stay away from that phone.
I'll be right back.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
I wanted tonight's show to be perfect, too.
Yeah, I know.
Okay, nobody better be on that phone.
6A.
Hi, Angela.
Hi.
Yeah.
It's me, Dave.
Hi, Dave.
How come you're letting somebody use that phone?
Uh, she had a call.
It don't make any difference.
You know how you should regard that phone?
Pardon me?
You know how you should regard that phone?
How?
As the bat phone.
Okay.
Always, always, in case you...
Hi.
In case you get a call from...
Oh, never mind.
Listen, Angela, is this your first night out there or something?
Uh, no.
When did you start?
I've never seen you out there before.
Uh, a couple weeks ago.
Okay, look, Angela, they do this show across the hall live at five.
Uh-huh.
Any big stars on that show tonight?
Yeah.
Really?
Like who?
Uh, Adam West.
Look, Angela, they do this show across the hall live at 5?
Uh-huh.
Any big stars on that show tonight?
Yeah.
Really? Like who?
Adam West.
Adam West.
Hey, speaking of bat phone, see?
And you tell me there's no such thing as ESP, because...
And who else?
Leslie Ann Warren.
Wow, from where is she from?
I don't know.
All right, so are they there yet?
Yes.
What do you think?
I don't know.
Just between you and me, would they help our show if we...
Eh.
No.
No.
It's those short, bright jabs that they're tall.
All right, Angela, I'll tell you what.
Who do we want, Paul?
You want Adam West or you want the other one?
Hey, wait a minute, damn it.
This is not a democracy.
Hello.
Yes.
Who is the other one?
Ann Warren.
Oh, right, from Murder, She Wrote.
She's gorgeous.
Huh?
I don't know about that.
All right, Angela, I tell you what, I'm going to leave this up to you.
Sometimes we have the page out there, bring guests from other shows in to take
a bow here on our show.
Okay.
And this will be up to you, whomever of the two, or both, if you really want to
have them both come in here.
Okay.
But make sure they understand that we don't want them sitting down.
Okay.
They just come right in, blow a kiss, and then hit the road.
Okay.
All right, and you come in, and you come in with them, Angela.
Okay.
All right.
Okay.
Thanks.
Okay, thanks.
Any time, all right?
Okay.
All right, bye.
Bye.
Oh, there.
Well, we've got a little surprise going there.
Let's see.
It's her opinion that we could use some help.
Well, let me tell you something.
That's why she's a page and I'm the host, damn it.
She and I are about the same age, too, and look, she's just.
And I don't see her hosting a little show like that.
Hey, look, Paul, last night when I got home, I got out my record collection.
I thought, this is fun.
I listened to some of my old favorite records.
I'll bring them into the program tomorrow and let the kids here in the studio
listen to them.
You have some interesting records.
Yeah, I got them right here.
Take a look at this one.
This is called Tuning Your Auto Harp with Meg Peterson.
And we're going to be listening to a cut called Notes.
Here we go.
Are they coming in?
The next string is F, which would sound like this.
Hey, hold on.
Are they coming in?
Okay, okay.
Oh, get ready, Paul.
Here, play something quick.
They're coming in.
Turn off the...
Here, who is it?
Here, who is it?
What a show.
What a show.
Yeah, I don't know.
What happened to Angela Lansbury, though?
What is she?
Leslie Ann Warren?
Yeah, now I'm thinking there's a reason she didn't want to come in.
I better call Angela.
You know, you get a little paranoid because I know they're both over there.
And I know that it can't hurt either of them to come in here and say hello.
And so I'm thinking to myself now, why Adam Weston not Leslie Ann Downs?
Warren.
Leslie Ann.
Leslie Ann Warren.
What is her name?
Leslie Ann Warren.
Okay.
Okay, this will just take a second, then we'll get back to the records.
Huh?
She is coming?
Who's coming?
Oh, jeez.
All right, all right.
All right.
Let's pretend we were doing something, Paul.
Just pretend we were doing something.
Record number...
Oh, my God!
That was a very good one, Paul.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
Nice to see you.
Now, we're sure that was her.
That was her, all right.
Okay.
All right, record number two.
Wow, it is.
It's like a real show now, isn't it?
Yeah, yeah.
Well, you know, for three memorable seasons, our first guest was Batman in that
popular television
series.
And this Sunday night, he is starring right here on NBC in a police comedy
called Look Well.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Adam West.
Oh, Adam!
We're back.
We're back.
Woo-hoo!
We're back.
We're back.
We'll see you, David.
Sit down.
Sit down.
It's a dance craze that's sweeping the country.
How you doing?
Okay.
How are you?
Hey, congratulations on the big show.
This will be Saturday night?
Sunday night.
Sunday night, yeah.
This will be Friday night.
Yes, that will be Sunday night.
Yeah.
Let's talk a little bit about the program.
When?
How did it come together?
And what is it, in essence?
I play a guy who had a successful television show, seriously, as a detective.
You were Bennigan.
Isn't that the name of the name?
No.
Bannigan?
No, Brannigan.
Brannigan.
Yeah.
That's the way it goes in the show, isn't it?
No, that was Hugh O'Brien.
Yeah, that's very funny.
Mannix, right?
Yeah.
And the guy has, like, an acting workshop.
Mm-hmm.
And he's one of Hollywood's eternally hopeful kind of guys.
But he still believes, he's a rogue honorary cop.
He still believes that he can fight crime and be more effective than the cops.
Yeah.
And that's, but he's usually...
It's very funny.
He mothers.
The scene that you're talking about where you go into the police station and
prove to them
or pull out your honorary...
Do we have a clip of this, Bob?
Yeah.
Yeah, do you know what we're going to look at here?
Yes, I think I'll pay a little visit to my friends at the police station.
Oh, this is the clip.
Oh, this is the part.
Oh, that's very funny.
All right, here we go.
So now it'll be on Sunday night.
Yes.
What time?
I think around 7 o'clock.
Okay, here we go.
This is Adam West in Look Well.
It'll be on Sunday night here on NBC.
Watch this.
Your name is what?
Look Well.
Ty Look Well.
And you're a what?
I'm an honorary member of the force.
This was given to me in 1972.
Presented to Ty Look Well.
TV's Brannigan.
Brannigan.
Hugh O'Brien was Brannigan.
Who's Hugh O'Brien?
Exactly.
Honorary Crime Stopper, 1972.
I don't know, Mr. Look Well.
That was presented to me at a formal ceremony in Television City.
It looks very funny.
What do you want to talk about the old Batman show?
Man, that thing was unbelievable.
But it was, how long ago was that?
66, 67 in there?
We're going into our 25th anniversary, David.
And the show is still on the air, I guess, in a lot of places around the world?
The last number I got from 20th Century Fox research was, I think, a half a
billion people
every day have been watching.
You're kidding.
A half a billion days?
Currently, people are watching that show around the world?
Yes.
Yes, I don't understand.
Well, man.
And at the time, it just must have taken your life and turned it completely
upside down,
didn't it?
It did.
Yes, to wear tights and things like that.
Totally upside down.
It's like Robin Hood and his Merry Men.
You know, you think of those things.
Batman, seriously, has brought me probably many things that I would not have
without it.
Tremendous rapport with people.
Yeah.
And just a lot of fun.
Now, when the show went on the air in other countries, the reaction was a
little different
than you might guess.
For example, in Great Britain, it was different, wasn't it?
Well, yes.
You know about the British press.
And they usually take the more exotic approach to things.
But seriously, I was asked about to do a disclaimer about so children would not
get hurt jumping
off roofs or chasing cars in their own little Batmobiles or whatever.
Because the kids actually thought that they took it more seriously then.
Is that what you're saying?
Yes, about as seriously as I did while I was performing the role.
What happened was...
Well, what does that mean exactly?
Well, I had it.
You see, I don't know I'm so nervous.
What happens, David, is to play a role like that, you really have to be serious.
Once you pull on that cowl, I mean, man, you've got to believe that you're a
crime fighter
and that kind of thing.
Yeah.
But, so, so what happened?
The Queen, it wasn't really the Queen, it was a minor minister in government,
invited
to go to England and do a little film for the children about crossing the
street, which
I did.
Well...
As Batman.
All right, and that'll be, that'll, that'll also be on Sunday night.
Crossing the street film.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up on a ranch outside of Walla Walla, Washington.
Sounds great.
A good life for a kid?
I think it was.
Yes, I wanted always to be a cowboy and instead I ended up in tights, but it
was, it was, I
think, a good life.
Yeah.
It shapes a bit of character and, and I suppose determination.
Well, good for you.
Nice to have you here.
Did you see Wayne Newton over there?
I sure did.
All right.
Now, let's, let's get this straight again.
The show is called Look Well and it's on Sunday night here on NBC.
All right.
Well, good luck.
I hope it's a big success.
Thank you so much.
Pleasure meeting you.
Thank you very much for being here.
Adam West, ladies and gentlemen.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
