On the program tonight, kids, boy, and I'm glad you're in a good mood now.
We have John Candy, Eugene Levy, also.
One of the men responsible for catching that 3,500-pound shark off the coast of
Montauk,
I guess last week it was, Captain Frank Mundus and Paul.
Introduce the folks over there in the band with us tonight.
Well, okay, it's an interesting show today because a couple of kids dropped by
to sit in.
Over on percussion, a renowned New York kind of a session cat, chick in this
case.
We're thrilled she's here with us, Carol Steele, on percussion.
Paul, excuse me. Paul, wait a minute. Who ordered the Timbales?
Well, you did.
Thank you. I ordered them.
And I'm glad you did, too.
Yeah, because she'd have nothing to play if I didn't.
That's right.
But a guy came over from England and needed a place to play, and I said, you
know, come down.
And he's kind of lurking in the background, but Stevie Winwood is here.
He's just, you know, he's just needed a place to play.
Thank you, folks. Nice to have everybody here, and later we're going to hear
two songs from the band and Steve Winwood and everybody else.
Two real hard, hard songs to play, I might add. Difficult songs.
Well, now you're doing what I did with the joke. You're kind of excusing
yourself ahead of the fact.
Well, one is, one is...
Well, they sounded great in rehearsal.
Well, you know...
Do it just like you did in rehearsal. It'll be perfect.
All right. We're all a little worried about it.
No, it'll be fine.
Okay.
All right.
I must say, we're all really excited to have our next guest on the program.
This man is a legend in the music world, and the bands that he has been
responsible for and associated with include Blind Faith, Traffic,
the Spencer Davis Group, and this right here is a copy of his latest album.
It's called Back in the High Life.
Now, from this very record, singing Higher Love, please welcome, along with
some friends, Steve Winwood.
Gentlemen.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I love love, I love love, I love love, I keep making love. Was a girlie, I was
just hanging on, facing the fear of standing out there alone. A girlie, and it's
real to me, there must be someone who's feeling for me.
Things are so bright everywhere, in this whole world, what is fair. We walk
right and we try to see, falling behind in what could be.
Bring me a fire, Lord. Bring me a fire, Lord. Bring me a fire, Lord.
I couldn't rise above, on a heart of love. I will wait for you. I'm not too
late for me. Until then, I'll sing my song.
To take the night alone, baby.
I could light the night and with my soul on fire. I could make the sunshine of
pure desire.
Let me feel that love going. Let me feel how strong it could be.
Oh, bring me a higher love. Bring me a higher love. Bring me a higher love.
Bring me a higher love.
Bring me a higher love. Bring me a higher love. Bring me a higher love. Bring
me a higher love.
Bring me a higher love. Bring me a higher love. Bring me a higher love.
Bring me a higher love. Bring me a higher love.
Bring me a higher love. Bring me a higher love.
Bring me a higher love.
Yeah. Nice job.
We'll be right back after stage night identification.
Okay. Tomorrow, Ashford and Simpson will be here.
Joe Namath and Lester Lannan. That's right.
Society Orchestra leader Lester Lannan. That'll be tomorrow night.
Sounded good, Paul. And thank God someone had the presence of mind to order the
Timbales.
You did that.
Normally, I order the enchiladas. But you know...
We didn't set them up, you know.
Huh?
We didn't set them up. I know you ordered them.
No, I had to do that. And you're going to sing another song. What's the name of
the other song?
Oh, I don't want to give it away.
No, no, tell them. Come on, tell them. We don't want people going to sleep.
Tell them.
Like a little thing called "Give Me Some Loving."
No, okay, don't tell them.
You can't tell them?
I already told them.
We're going to do a little comedy here and then we get back to the music.
A little thing called "Give Me Some Loving."
Oh, good.
I really wish you hadn't told them.
Once again, folks, Steve Winwood with Paul and the band. Go, gentlemen. Thank
you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Oh, my self-reduce, I'll never be loved to fly
Where are people knocking, cause I wanna settle for
Lock me in, baby, I don't know what you got
But you better believe it, this business heart and heart
Don't let you mind it, don't let you mind it
Why don't you, give me some love, give me, give me some love
Give me some love, give me, give me some love
Give me some love every day
Oh, my self-reduce, I'll never be loved to fly
But I feel so good, everything is getting higher
Bad things, I'm down, but the place is on fire
It's been a hard day, and it went too good
I'm very loved, like everybody should learn
Don't let me mind it, don't let me mind it
Why don't you, give me some love every day
Give me, give me some love, give me some love
Can't you, give me some love, give me some love every day
Oh, my self-reduce, I'm down, but the place is on fire
Oh, my self-reduce, I'm down, but the place is on fire
Oh, my self-reduce, I'm down, but the place is on fire
Oh, my self-reduce, I'm down, but the place is on fire

And also, helping out, Carol Steele on percussion
And Dolette McDonald in backup singing
Where did she go? She's gone
And, of course, Paul in our band
You sounded terrific, Steve
Congratulations on the album
Thanks for being here
Thank you very much
We'll be back tomorrow with A7-6 and Joan Avery
