Now, is that typically...
That's blues.
Is that solid record?
As I know it, yes.
As you know it, yeah.
But it doesn't depress you and make you want to get drunk and punch somebody.
Actually, that was kind of exhilarating, I thought.
Well, it seems to be agreeing with Paul.
So there is a peppy form of the blues then?
I think so.
It can express just about anything you want to have expressed.
Where do you live these days?
California.
Originally, you were from where?
England, but I've been in Los Angeles for 21 years now.
Oh, is that right?
I didn't realize it was that long ago.
Yeah, quite a long time.
Why did you move?
The climate.
It's hard to beat, isn't it?
The rain, you know.
Do you enjoy being out there?
Yeah, that's home for me.
But is it tough to write and perform blues music when the sun is always shining
and it's like 74 degrees?
When you can get hot blues, I mean.
Yeah.
You know, they're either out surfing or they got a party going.
Yeah.
But then you see, we go out on the road a lot.
Yeah.
Do you enjoy traveling?
Yeah, we do 120 shows a year with the blues breakers.
Coco Montoya there was on guitar.
And we have our wonderful rhythm section in the audience there, Freebo and Joey
Whaley.
They're in the audience playing the rhythm section in the audience.
Yeah.
What an interesting concept.
Who are some of the folks that you worked with in the '60s?
Eric Clapton, for one.
And there's not much.
That's it, sure.
Pretty much.
Yeah.
Mick Taylor from Stones and all the people in Fleetwood Mac just about.
Yeah.
And quite a few others, really.
It's quite a long list.
Very impressive.
Yeah.
And you're in the middle of a tour now, I guess, I would think?
Yeah, we're constantly in the middle of tours.
Yeah.
Where will you be appearing next, as they say?
Tonight we're in New Haven.
But, of course, unless you live in New Haven, that won't have very much
relevance, will it?
Yeah.
Man, you've got to beat it up to New Haven now?
That's right.
Yeah, all right.
Well, let's go up together.
I live up that way.
You do, indeed.
All right.
John, nice to see you.
Thank you very much for being here.
John Mayall, ladies and gentlemen.
We'll be right back.
I don't want to take anything away from you, but it's easier to be a legend if
you've got
that guy.
I know.
Well...
That's unbelievable.
Go come on tour.
What are we doing here?
Nice to see you, John.
Thank you very much, and I hope you have a great summer and a successful tour
and a nice
job up there at New Haven tonight.
My thanks to Lenny Dykstra and Woody Harrelson.
Tomorrow night, ladies and gentlemen, get ready to hang onto something.
Find a chair.
Marv Albert.
That's right.
NBC's own Marv Albert.
Good night, everybody.
Good night, everybody.
