thank you thank you very much paul our next guest tonight are two very funny
gentlemen who will be
exposing their comedy talents from august 25th through the 30th at carolines
right here in new
york city folks please welcome back franken and davis nice to see you guys
again i i remember in the old
days and this was a lot of fun when you were the comedy team that weighed the
same do you remember
that yeah i remember yeah we did that right here on the show yeah and that's
the only time we've
ever weighed the same it's actually we're now the comedy team that weighs
within 15 pounds well i
like that when you guys pressure's off us now yeah how uh how's the summer
going how's the family
everybody okay well i've been spending a lot of time with my family this summer
i have he's the one
with the family yeah i have a daughter uh six now and my son is two and usually
when i come on the
show i there's some cute story i tell yeah and uh my my wife and i uh uh uh and
these are all true
stories my i i we overheard our daughter who's six say to our son who's two uh
you'd need a gun
to kill me but i could kill you with my bare hands
gee that is cute there's some logic to that that's really cute and uh
well how old are they tell them how it's not like 16 and 14 no no yeah six and
i asked why she said it
and she said that it because it's true he'd need a knife or a gun uh-huh and uh
i said well what prompted
you and she said uh well he he said he was going to kill me so evidently he had
i thought it was just
a control move but uh uh he had actually threatened her uh-huh well you're
lying i don't know have you
thought about some counseling or or something no i don't want to you know you
don't want to interfere
the kids are fine you have an instinct when to leave things alone uh now now
tell me about the big
festivities up in uh your your neck of the woods as they say when something
goes on in that neck of
well tom and i have a uh summer house near uh philmont new york which is ollie
north's
hometown really so that's where tom has been watching the uh was was watching
the hearings all
yeah the hearings are all over now al but uh yeah we had all the radios and
televisions on and
the after they were over there was kind of that let down yeah that like at the
end of uh football
season or something you know you've been following the teams and stuff there's
a void in your life
but uh you know football season is starting and the bork hearings are coming up
so
tom do your uh impression do in a way for macadamia nuts oh uh well many nuts
on the market
but the hawaiian macadamia nut is a favorite of my colleague from maryland
senator salvin's
we don't usually do impressions very nice job though that's satire now anyway
so
tom davis everybody's uh everybody's tired of the hearings by now so you know
we don't want to be
we did we went to ollie north day in philmont they actually had an event
honoring ollie north well it was
their community day yeah but he's from philmont so they had it was actually
sort of a low-key
kind of a cute event it had they had like a marching band of about five pieces
and then they had four
fire trucks uh one was from melonville which is the next town and uh they had
then they had about ten
uh march they had uh adolescent girls in lime green uh majorette costumes and
then the protesters there are about 50 of them
were on the back of the of the parade holding up signs like maria valdez age
eight killed by contras
so it was a really cute uh-huh as if the whole parade all right so so the
protesters the people
against oliver north's position were also included in the festivities well they
they just glommed on to
the parade it was a real american event you know and it was very it was it was
lovely at different
points of view say listen uh congratulations i know you guys have been
nominated for uh some awards here
for your uh we were writing up on last year we wrote on saturday night and uh
we about half of it
yeah well when i say we i mean i mean me and uh
and uh we actually and congratulations to you guys too because the writers in
this show have been
nominated for the fourth time in a row i believe something like that yeah so in
a way we're going
head to head against each other but it's fun it's a friendly rivalry oh yeah
yeah oh gosh if we don't
win we hope hope you win well we feel the same and it was uh we saw the show
that you were nominated
for it was the fifth anniversary show uh with all the highlights and the five
years that you've been
we weren't on on it we noticed but it was only only a 90-minute show those are
tough decisions yeah yeah
but uh if it had been a two-hour show you guys would have been in there yeah
well i think your
your old producer didn't like us as much as your new producer so maybe next
year because we had to do
a show in five days that's right to edit that thing together in about five or
six years five years to
write that show yeah i suppose i suppose that is one way of looking at it so
you're under the gun up there
every week to turn out a show yeah yeah so but uh you know the emmys are sort
of inherently unfair one
year we wrote a uh we helped write a special for bob and ray and we thought you
know they're loved by
the industry that was a great show thank you yeah and we thought maybe we could
win an emmy on bob
ray's coattails and uh the category came out and we were up against holocaust
somehow yeah what and uh you
know because it was limited specials and limited series and we went to the emmys
and uh holocaust
won and it was very odd because you know it's a very somber thing but something
about the emmys
because these guys are going up they went up to they won their emmys and going
yeah
and uh you win you win you know it's exciting so it's exciting good luck and i
guess we'll see you
guys out there but good luck to you thank you very much now al yeah i've heard
about this all day this
man does something incredible and wonderful and can you do it for us here

to have a clock going
that's we have a clock you can do it in under two minutes yes yeah
