Let's get to our viewer mail, ladies and gentlemen. We have now...
More of that rhythmic hypnotic chanting.
That rhythmic hypnotic chanting.
Stop it, stop it.
Letter number one. Actual letters from actual viewers, ladies and gentlemen.
Letter number one.
"Dear Mr. Letterman, how can you justify..."
Now, this is a good, insightful question.
"How can you justify moving on to a network that once featured a show called
Jake and the Fat Man in its lineup?"
Your Kassiloff, Alaska friend, Gus Günther.
Well, this is an interesting question there regarding our move to CBS.
And it brings up a pretty good point.
And I think now is a nice time to mention to you something about the new show.
The new show that we do for CBS is going to be a little bit different.
Here, we just got the publicity posters back today.
Take a look at this. Tell me what you think.
Here it is.
This is kind of on the lines of what we're shooting at when we...
There's Dave and really Fat Dave fighting crime.
And once in a while they sing.
There we are.
It's me.
Not only fat, kind of dumb.
Uh-huh.
There you go.
Letter number two.
"Dear Dave, now that you are moving to another station, you might be reflecting
on your life.
So my question is, what is the greatest accomplishment of your life so far?
Good luck at the other station."
Chris Bond, Mineral Wells WV.
Is that West Virginia?
Probably West Virginia.
I think so.
You know, this is an excellent question and I wish I had a better answer for
this.
My greatest accomplishment...
Oh, man.
I...
Paul, you have some thoughts along this.
You have what?
Were you telling me this afternoon?
Actually, my greatest accomplishment is about to happen.
Wait, what is that?
Really?
Yeah, because...
Hasn't happened yet?
Well, last week I captured a moment on videotape that I believe guarantees me
the $25,000 grand prize on America's Funniest Home Videos.
Oh, the Bob Saget Show.
It was...
You know the show.
Yeah.
It was one of those crazy moments that occurred in my home and I was lucky
enough to capture it on videotape.
Oh!
Are we gonna take a look at that now?
I think we should.
I have a clip.
Well, let's videotape, pal.
Let's see what Paul's talking about.
We'll keep our fingers crossed.
You know, there's nothing on a cold day like a bowl of scrawling hot soup and
it's so hot.
I hope I don't spill it because it would be a shame...
Whoa!
Whoa!
Almost spilled that scrawling hot soup all over myself and it would be a shame
to...
Ah!
Oh!
Wow!
Did you see that?
I spilled hot soup and what a crazy mishap this is.
I...
Okay, honey, I think we got that one.
Turn on.
Good luck to ya.
Good luck.
We'll keep our fingers crossed.
Okay.
Dear Dave, where do you buy your pants?
Yeah, this is more the kind of question I can handle.
Ah.
You know, this is a great story.
When the show went on the air 11 years ago, I said to myself, I don't want to
spend a lot of time shopping for pants.
It's like a huge headache for me to go pants shopping.
So, I went downtown and I found a place.
Boom!
And I set myself up with pants for life.
Uh, Biff.
Oh, there's Biff Henderson, ladies and gentlemen.
Go backstage.
Go backstage and show them where we keep the pants and bring out a pair.
Okay.
You're not going to believe this.
It's unbelievable.
And if there's an outlet like this in your city, take advantage of it.
Look at that.
Look at that.
I got the 1,000 pair roll of pants.
And it should last till the end of the century.
Great job.
Thanks, Biff.
Look at that.
Pants for life.
Why don't you just keep those pants for yourself, Biff?
Oh, yes.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I just treated Biff to a pair of pants.
You are generous.
Uh, let's see.
Letter number four.
Dear Dave, why don't you put your pants for a pair of pants?
Oh, yes.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I just treated Biff to a pair of pants.
You are generous.
Uh, let's see.
Letter number four.
Dear Dave, one achievement of superstardom has eluded your career.
Uh, why haven't you been a guest on Sesame Street?
Your Nashville career consultant, Debbie Egbert, Nashville, Tennessee.
Uh, good question, Debbie.
But, you know, a few years ago, I actually, I was on Sesame Street as a guest.
And, uh, but there was some trouble.
Wasn't there?
Yeah.
Hal, roll the videotape of my appearance on Sesame Street.
I think there was trouble.
Watch this.
No.
Plus seven.
Two plus seven equals nine.
Whoa.
Hey, watch it.
They go.
God, what is, geez, does that stink?
Look, these things are fireproof.
Oh, man.
I'll be in the hallway.
Hair.
That's, that's exactly what it was.
Forgot all about that, ladies and gentlemen.
Radio after scene.
Fortunately, fortunately, I, well, now what has happened?
Isn't that odd?
I said, my God, the hijacker is loose.
He's made his way back from Kennedy and he's in the control room.
Uh, fortunately, I was able to beat out that puppet fire with a pair of pants.
Ha, ha, ha, ha.
Yeah, there you go.
Uh, ladies and gentlemen, we have a wonderful program tonight.
Our old friend Bill Murray is here.
We're gonna do a commercial, then we'll begin the fun.
Come on back.
Thanks again.
