Our next guest, of course, is a founding member of the legendary Who and a
frequent Martha Stewart house guest.
Starting Friday, however, he'll be known as Ebenezer Scrooge in a month-long
production of A Christmas Carol at the theater at Madison Square Garden.
Please welcome back Roger Galtrey.

Why don't y'all do it with my generation? Don't y'all do it with my generation?
I'm not trying to cause a big sin and sin. I'm talking about my generation. My
generation. My generation. My generation.
I'm talking about my generation. I'm talking about my generation. I'm talking
about my generation.
What a thing here. Roger, how are you? Good to have you here. Good to see you
again. Roger Dolphrey. We'll be right back, ladies and gentlemen.
Roger Dolphrey. Thank you very much, Sejana. Do you feel any different when you
sing that song now than when you were like 22 singing that song?
Mean anything to you now? I haven't sung that song for years and I sang it
tonight because after playing Scrooge for the last month rehearsing it, I
suddenly realized that Dickens didn't give Scrooge any age.
Now I think I'm over the age now where I've got a license to be able to sing
that song anytime I like, when I like, and I sang it to you, David.
Thank you very much.
Scrooge was old from the baggage of his life and I don't feel that way.
What do you think about old guys playing rock and roll?
I kind of feel that way every night.
I think they get better.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Like the Rolling Stones?
Yeah, they get better.
But can...
The young ones I can't take.
Can, like, kids who grew up with you and your band, can they now, kids today,
can, kids today, can they enjoy, like, when they see Mick Jagger and those guys,
like, in their late 50s?
I mean, or is that just a completely different deal?
It's like an old wine or an old whiskey.
The older it gets, the better it gets.
They're the originals.
It'll never be repeated in the same way.
The new, there's new bands that are great.
They're fantastic.
But the originals will always be the roots of the rock and roll as we know it.
You know, you're right.
I can see that.
You're right about that, because not so very long ago, there really wasn't rock
and roll, when you think about it, in the history of music, in the history of
time.
It just, it's still...
Well, it was, it was all, but it was, uh, all down south.
Really, we didn't have flight a hundred years ago, and now we're going to the
moon and everywhere else.
Yeah.
Ah!
Take a look at this.
This is you.
Now, why did you decide to do this?
This is you as Scrooge.
This would be at Madison Square Garden.
That was me this morning.
Christmas holidays.
Looking for the wife to see if she's made the tea.
Are you enjoying your, uh, stage?
I'm having a great time.
Oh, it's fantastic.
When does it open?
It opens on the, uh, 2nd of December.
Right through the holidays?
Right through the holidays.
It's a nice thing.
It's a nice thing for kids and their family to come and see.
It's a great family show, and I think this year they've really got it down that
they actually do tell the story in its fullness,
because it is a very complicated book, as you know.
And, uh, there's nothing missing, but the whole story is told in 90 minutes,
and it's, it, everyone sees, sees a bit of themselves in it.
That's what's so magical about it.
Well, they, they finally have a Scrooge with the authentic accent, so that's
good.
Well, yeah.
It means a lot to the kids.
I don't know if it's authentic.
Yes, it does help.
Yeah.
Nice to see you.
Enjoy your run.
Thank you.
Thank you for being here.
Roger Dolph, we'll be right back.
Well, I hope we've learned a little something here tonight.
My thanks to Roger Daltrey, Martha Stewart, Gina Davis, and DeCreskin, more or
less.
Also, tomorrow, Gwyneth Paltrow will be here, Peter Berg from Chicago Hope, and
Bonnie Raitt.
Thanks for joining us.
Good night, everybody.
Ah, crab cakes.
