and good evening folks and welcome back everybody i'm tom and this is the color
cast now for
thursday night it is the 10th of march 1994 how you doing folks nice to see you
glad to have you
with us on this thursday night we're joined tonight by ed begley jr from fort
lee new jersey
who returns to series television at the end of this month and by lisa gibbons
who appears coast to
coast on her own tv talk show appropriately titled lisa that'll be on the air
here in los angeles
11 a.m on the nbc station but you'll check the locals for the exact time and
station in your area
now miss gibbons brought with her tonight a woman who shall be nameless who
used to be one of the
producers on the legendary tomorrow show on nbc i've decided tonight i'm going
to refer to it from this
point forward as the legendary tomorrow show and you know i've told you stories
about
stuff i've done that i'm not proud of in georgia and in new york and in philadelphia
but i have never
shared with you a memorable evening i spent with this woman uh in paris france
we were international
in flavor on the uh the legendary tomorrow show uh we went into a restaurant in
france uh named uh maison
du village and we sat down and i an impeccable french gained from my youth long
before the legendary
tomorrow show said to the waiter vodka gloss on dubla which is a double vodka
on the rocks very very
tough order in paris enough of those never mind the food anyway we're in the
midst of the uh of the
dinner and a very nice man comes over he says uh uh snyder what do you want to
eat in perfect english in
paris and and this was one of the most french of all the french restaurants uh
uh in in paris
i said how do you know my name he said my name is charlie cooperman i used to
live in philadelphia
and i watched you on the news when i was a young man and he said my wife and i
operate this restaurant
in paris and we're honored that you hear what can i prepare for you so i mean
this guy went back to
the kitchen and you know chop chop chop and saute saute saute saute flambé flambé
flambé and it was
absolutely elegant now it's about 10 30 or 11 o'clock at night and i'm thinking
about getting back to the
hotel because we're going to interview i believe omar sharif the next day which
is a whole nother story
and charlie cooperman says to me he says how about a tour of the wars i said i
don't know what that is
he said well he said you know the french we had the war in 1814 then we had
this first world war
then we had the second world war then we had dn ben fu and then there was some
other one they had along
the way and he said what we like to do is tell stories about each one of the
wars and how they wound
up and drink brandy from that period i said oh he said so what do you say i
said let the tour begin
so they go back to the cellar and they bring out an armagnac 1814. now you know
what this stuff goes
for a bottle i mean it's my annual salary times ten and we have about three or
four of those and now we
drift along to 1918 and the armistice at the end of world war one and the
waiter brings out a bottle
of armagnac 1918 and we go through three or four tastings of that and tell
stories about the entente
cordial then we get to 1945 and the end of the of of the second world war and
out comes the 1945 armagnac
from the cellar and we have several of those and by this time it's 1 30 in the
morning and i'm slurring
okay i'm a little tight i said excuse me charlie we have to go home because we
have to work tomorrow
he said well great he says you'll come back tomorrow night and we'll continue
the tour of the wars i said
fine we get back the next night he said you know there is a rule i said what's
that he said you can't
join the tour in the middle so we did it all over again and i think this woman
and i left left the
restaurant about two o'clock in the morning and i had 10 cents in my pocket
absolutely no cash whatsoever
so we had to walk back to our fabulous uh hotel as provided by nbc during the
days of the legendary
tomorrow show anyway back with lisa gibbons a little bit later on tonight ed
begley jr out of fort lee new
jersey i'm glad you're here i'm tom this is the color cast relax now and enjoy
the pictures as we fly
them through the air
