it sounded great
thank you very much for being here
this is the new album
it's called Heart Shaped World
and where are you from exactly?
Stockton, California
oh, that's a great place, isn't it?
big agricultural center of North America
yeah, I'm surprised you know
well, how can you not know Stockton?
a lot of people don't know where it is
and before you got into music
or maybe as you were getting into music
you did some boxing?
yeah, I did boxing and stuff
my nose started off, it was like straight
and then it got little by little
was this like club boxing?
or did you get into professional boxing?
well, Stockton was like police athletic league
which is like
you know, that's for
I guess it's people who they think are gonna get in trouble
well, yeah
and they
I mean, I wasn't a troublemaker or anything, but you know
how many fights did you have?
uh, in the ring?
yeah
I don't know, you know
I mean, I boxed for a couple years
and then through college
and a little bit after that
and then I wised up
yeah
but you're a tough guy then essentially
is what you're talking about
not at all
not at all
now, how did you get in the film there
Silence of the Lambs?
well, this is like a horrible thing to say
because just like really lucky
I mean, he just called me up on the telephone
and I
Jonathan Demme?
yeah, I'm just thinking about people like
sitting at home going
yeah, that's how I'll get in movies
I'll just
I'll just
I'll just stay here
and Jonathan will call me
I mean, that's
really, that's how
he just called me up
David Lynch, like
he used this
a song off this record in his movie
uh huh
and I mean, I just sat at home
and
yeah, go ahead, use it
yeah
that was it
that was it
so directors, big time Hollywood directors
are thumbing through the white pages
and I'm
you never know
it pays to be listed
uh, and you, you must enjoy the acting
that seems like a lot of fun for you, huh?
yeah, it's uh
I mean, you know
people have asked me, you know
would you do another role or something
if they ask you
but I, seriously
I don't know anybody
like my cousins or my friends
or anybody I went to school with
that if you said
you want to be in a movie
and they want you to
I mean, if you said
Herb at the film station
we want you to be in a movie
and you're going to play Othello
but you're going to get 10 grand
yeah
sure
you're there
sure, absolutely
I'll bring my own makeup
I'm ready
uh, and, and are you out traveling or any?
you're in the middle of a tour?
yeah, I just have been
like, I just got back from Europe
we did about a month there
and now I'm going to go out
and get in a bus
and go around the states
wow
you know how much fun that can be
yeah, I think so
I think we all do
uh, but, but Europe
did they go nuts for you?
yeah, you know
it was, they were pretty
yeah
it was actually the first time
you know, they play on the radio
we played mostly bars
yeah
up till now in my career
and now all of a sudden
this is your first non-bar gig
here tonight
yeah, pretty much
and uh, well, you know
you play mostly bars
and then when you get done
playing at the bar
you walk out
and I just walk out
and get in the bus and go
yeah, go home
sure
or whatever
whatever
but now we went out in Europe
and you walk out
and there'd be people out there
and they'd
I thought they were just
waiting for cars
or you know
a taxi or something
but they were waiting for us
yeah
so it was different
it's a good feeling I would think
it's a great feeling
I like hanging out
and you know
good for you
good luck to you
nice meeting you
thank you very much for being here
Chris, thank you very much for being here
it was fun to hear your music
and nice chatting with you
my apologies to Rick Ellis by the way
he was also handled by Mike Ovitz
we ran out of time
we'll try and have him back
as soon as possible
thank you very much folks for being here
we're out of videotape
goodnight America
we'll see you next time
bye
