How do you like the new carpeting?
Lovely.
Isn't it beautiful?
I love what you've done with the place.
It's kind of autumn orange.
Thank you very much.
Now, Morty, did we find out where those guys went?
No emergency?
Everything's fine?
It's fine.
They're on the crew.
I know they're on the crew.
They're on the crew.
Okay.
Earlier, if you're just joining us.
By the way, I find that hard to believe.
Two guys just went AWOL on our crew.
They just blew right out the door, and we haven't seen them since.
Now it's flying dog time.
One of my next guests is the far-regional frisbee catching champion.
Last year, he came in fourth in the world championships.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Bill Waters and his championship dog, Air
Major.
Kids, come on up.
This is Air Major, Air Major.
Where are you from, Bill?
We're from Phoenix, Arizona.
Phoenix, Arizona, and this is a frisbee catching competition?
You bet.
But these events have gotten pretty sophisticated, haven't they?
You bet.
And you compete all year round, a few months out of the year?
What do you do?
Well, the Ashley Whippet Invitationals.
We have hundreds of locals.
You're saying Whippet?
Yes, Ashley Whippet Invitationals.
Oh, that was the name of the first frisbee catching dog?
Yeah, the famous frisbee dog that started the whole thing.
And they have hundreds of local competitions, and we have six big regionals
around the country.
And you compete for prize money?
Well, no, they don't do prize money because basically...
Dogs wouldn't know how to invest it.
Yeah, and they wouldn't give the owners enough of it anyway, but we do it
because we love
our animals, and we love our sport, and we don't want to see any abuses.
And you've taught the dog everything we're going to see here?
Pretty much, and some of it he's taught me.
What kind of dog is this?
He's an all-American mutt.
And he's Air Major.
Does that have any significance for us?
Well, he started off as just Major.
And then as he developed, and his muscles developed, and his talent and
abilities developed,
he developed this incredible leaping ability, and he became Air Major.
Hal, can we get a shot of these very lovely nails?
Those are...
Like, look at that.
Very nice.
You're a very well-groomed animal.
And what makes this dog a good athlete as far as this event goes?
Well, he's 20 pounds, and a great leaper, and he has great eye-paw coordination,
eye-mouth
coordination.
And he loves the sports.
He loves the sport of Frisbee.
He lives for this disc right here.
Do you ever talk right into their nose like that?
I have.
Sometimes I talk, right?
Hello.
How are you?
This is where the microphone is planted.
Now, anyway, but Bill, seriously, candidly, this is as close to a flying dog as
you're
going to get, right?
Am I right?
I think so.
Okay.
Now, are you going to show the folks what needs to be done here?
Do I just stand back?
Do you want music?
What do you want?
Well, we can start off where I like to warm him up a little bit.
Okay.
Get him going like any athlete.
He needs to warm up just a little bit.
I'll be over here.
Do I just stand over here?
Sure.
Okay.
I'd like to get him going.
Sit up.
Give him a little five here.
Okay.
All right.
Here we go.
Come on, Major.
Come here.
Come here.
Come on.
Come on.
Come here, man.
Sit.
Sit.
And we get him.
Keep him warmed up here.
A couple over the bodies out there.
Yes.
Come on.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Man, alive.
It's a flying dog.
Flying dog.
Now that he's getting warmed up here, we can move back a little bit and give
him a little
running room here.
All right.
Okay, Major.
Sit.
Sit.
Go get him, big dog.
Very nice.
Get him, Major.
He missed.
He looked over his wrong shoulder.
Yep.
Of course, we usually do this on a grass field, so.
So he doesn't have the proper attraction here?
Right.
There we go.
Very nice.
Okay.
All right.
Now.
Does, does.
Every once in a while, he tries to play his little game on me, but we've got.
Does he know when he's done a great job and when he's done not such a good job?
I, I think he does.
I think he knows, uh, he understands what he's doing.
He loves the sport of the disc and he loves the crowd and, you know, we do
professional
football stadiums and he's, we rock thousands of people and, uh, so.
Oh, okay.
Now, now, what are we going to do?
We're going to have you throw a couple.
All right.
And then we'll get into a couple of serious more tricks with him.
Whoa.
Come on.
I don't know.
All right.
I don't know where it is.
Okay.
Here, here, buddy.
Here, here, here, here.
Can I throw it down that way a little bit?
If you want to try it.
Just lead him a little bit.
Okay.
Let me try one with Paul first.
Here you go, Paul.
Yo.
Okay, here you go.
Come on, come on, come on.
Up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, here you go.
All right.
Come here, man.
All right.
Let's do some tricks here.
This is our rocket ship.
Come here, man.
Do all of the dogs seem to be about his size?
Is that, uh...
Well, no.
Most of the dogs he competes against are two times, three times his size.
Is that right?
So, he's a 20-pounder.
All right.
This is our rocket ship here.
Ready, mage?
Up.
Whoa.
Whoa.
Come here, mage.
Come on.
Here we go.
Okay, this is our merry-go-round.
Here we go.
Up.
Come on, boys.
Whoa.
Nice.
One more.
We have one more trick here?
One more trick.
Okay, this is our big back and all.
Do we have time for it?
Okay, sure.
Okay, come here, mage.
Major, sit.
Sit.
Here we go.
Stay.
Stay.
Ready, mage.
Ready.
Hup.
Ho.
Uh-oh.
You missed the back ball.
Here we go.
Come on.
Come on.
Sit.
Here we go.
All right.
Stay.
Ready, major?
Up.
This is a big finish.
Up.
Come on.
Yeah!
It's a flying dog.
Oh, here it is.
Look at this.
It is.
It's a flying dog.
Bill, nice to see you. Congratulations. Great job. Thank you for having me. Are
we going to take a look at it? Okay. Nice to see you. Nice job. We'll be right
back, folks.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, concluding this segment, a very special treat.
Please say hello to Air Major the Flying Dog.
There we go. Sit. Sit. Sit up. Give me five. Here we go. Ready? Hop. Yo! Man!
One more. Try it again. Come on. Come on. That is a flying dog.
Ready? Hop. Yeah!
Oh, man! Okay. We're going to do a commercial. We'll be right back, folks.
We'll be right back, folks.
We'll be right back, folks.
