Our next guest is a talented actress whose work you may know from such films as
True Love, Jungle Fever, and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
Now she can be seen in Copland. It opens August 15th. Here she is, Annabella
Sciorra. Annabella!
Nice to see you. Pleasure to meet you. I enjoyed your work in the films and I
especially enjoyed you in Copland.
That's a film, isn't it? It's very good, yeah. It's going to be a big, big deal.
You have a beautiful name, Annabella Sciorra.
And you pronounced it correctly. Did I get it right? You pronounced it
absolutely correctly.
What is your middle name? Gloria. Gloria? Gloria Filomena.
Wow. So you have two middle names. I have two middle names. So you have four
names total.
I have four names. Well, I have a fifth name, too. I have Hope, which was my
confirmation name because I was tired of all the Italian stuff.
Right, yeah. You know what my confirmation name was? Tell me.
Hondo.
Well, can I call you Hondo? Please call me Hondo.
Because I was trying to figure out if I should call you Dave or David or Mr.
Letterman?
No, no. Hondo.
Hondo. Okay.
Can you tell us a little bit about, I mean, we've had some other of your cast
members on from the movie and we try to get some insight because this is a huge
cast of folks here.
I mean, big, big, important film stars.
Can you give us an idea, a feeling for what that was like to go to work on that
project each day?
Well, you know, I really, during rehearsals, I mean, walking into rehearsals
and seeing people like Harvey Keitel and Mr. De Niro and Sylvester.
Did you call him Mr. De Niro?
No, I didn't call anybody anything because I didn't know if I should say Sylvester
or Sly or Mr. Stallone.
So, for a long time, I just said, excuse me, because I didn't know what to call
them.
So, yeah, that's where I am.
So, you were bashful, understandably bashful, around these guys? Is that what
it was?
Sure.
You know, you grow up sort of idolizing some of these people and, you know,
people like Robert De Niro are part of the reason you wanted to act.
Yeah.
And, yeah.
And what about Sylvester Stallone? Were you able to develop a rapport with this
guy at all?
I would think so, right?
Yeah.
He's just a regular guy, right?
Yeah.
No, he's lovely.
He's really lovely.
And he had to bulk up for the film.
He gained like 80, 90 pounds or something, didn't he?
Well, I don't know.
I mean, whatever he gained.
I don't know what he gained.
I think he gained about 40 pounds or something like that.
I think that was his cutoff weight.
But was he always eating on the set?
Well, he liked snacking a lot.
Sure, sure.
Yeah, he liked, you know, he thought you should eat him between meals and I was
trying to keep my weight down.
So, I stayed away from the snacking plan.
Now, when you do interviews for this film and other films and any other project
you've been on,
do you, a lot of times it's been my experience in the old days when people
would interview me,
that you hear the same question over and over again.
And so to just kind of liven things, if you try and invent different answers,
do you do much of that?
Well, as a matter of fact, Hondo.
I have a bad reputation and I was caught recently and in the last couple of
years lying about quite a few things.
You just fib in the interview.
Yeah, because I didn't really feel comfortable and I really didn't think it was
anybody's business.
And so I would really not just, you know, fib, but I would make up quite
elaborate stories.
There was one that I made up about Dennis Hopper and my father raising iguanas
and for the circus or something like that.
Anyways, it made its way into print and I had to crawl.
Now, when you're spinning this yarn, do you expect that the person conducting
the interview at some point to say,
oh, you're kidding, right?
I mean, that's exactly what you would expect.
You would think if they were intelligent.
But it didn't seem to happen and so now it's in part of your biography, right?
Yeah, it's in part of my biography that I was roommates with Justine Bateman in
Paris and she put an air on my cat and all kinds of...
But none of this happened?
No, no, no.
The iguanas never happened and the circus never happened.
So how do I know you're not lying about all this here tonight?
You don't.
Are you married?
May I ask if you're married?
No, I'm having an affair with Robin Williams right now.
Well, there you go.
That's better than that iguana story for heaven's sake.
It's much better.
Robin will be watching this tonight.
You're working with Robin now?
I am.
What is the film?
I'm working with Robin Williams.
It's called What Dreams May Come.
I have to clarify that because if you say it fast, it sounds like something
else.
Yeah, say it fast.
What Dreams May Come?
What Dreams May Come, yeah.
What Dreams May Come.
What does it sound like the other one?
Well, a lot of people think it's a porn movie.
What Dreams May Come?
Oh, I see.
I see.
I see.
I see.
I see.
I see.
And it's a comedy, that film?
No, it's actually a love story.
Do you like working with Robin Williams?
I love Robin, yeah.
He's really precious.
He's really nice.
So this is great.
Your career couldn't be in better shape then.
I'm having a good time.
You go from one big project to another one.
Yeah.
And, oh, you're going now to a big premiere, right?
I'm going now to a big premiere.
I have to change upstairs.
And then what do you do at the premiere?
I was talking to somebody, and it seems like if it's your movie, you ought to mingle
with
the crowd passing out hors d'oeuvres or something.
But you don't have to do that, do you?
No, I don't have to.
I think that's taken care of.
I think that's taken care of.
Pick up a tray and pass out the cold cuts.
But I might try it, you know.
Well, you know, I'm very excited about this, and I'm not even in the movie.
No, I know.
You've been really lovely about it.
I enjoyed it.
You know, if I enjoy a movie.
See, that's the thing.
People say, well, here, you know, we're going to have the big stars on the show.
You watch the movie.
And so if I love the movie, I'll say how much I love it.
But if you don't love it, you think, well, geez, there's two hours of my life
gone.
Gone.
But in this case, I really love the movie.
It's a really good movie.
It's a very good movie.
Good for you.
Nice to see you.
Congratulations, and have fun at the big premiere tonight.
Thank you very, very much.
All right, there you go.
Annabella, CRI, let us know.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
