Macaulay Culkin and Bob Converse about Joy and Grief and Macaulay‘s Bird | Bob Saget

hey it is Bob here and it is time again for Bob Saget's here for you and I try
to say that as fast
as I can otherwise my name in a sentence is so narcissistic and self-serving
and you know people
like that who needs them right now right we got problems we got trouble right
here in river city
we got to take care of each other and uh that's what this is about that's why I
want to talk to
people and I've got a friend that's enough right there I've got a friend really
Bob no you don't
yes I do and uh he is just he's a joy to me and so I'm gonna call him and you
know him and uh we're
gonna talk to him right now I mean he's one of the my favorite people it's uh
Macaulay Culkin
so here we go we're calling we're calling Macaulay Culkin right now call him
Mac because he's a friend
don't call him Colk that's one ring he might be the lucky winner get some free
dish towels
hello hello hello how are you it's good you can hear me I hear you clear you're
you're loud and clear
oh good good because yeah I'm using a like I'm using like a gamer headset uh
plugged it into my phone
yeah it comes a little mic in there yeah I know them well I mean I think all of
us are more familiar
with all that stuff now I mean anybody that was holed up in their house before
and had video games and
whatever I mean yeah I'll do anything I'm I'm painting dolls and stuff I don't
know
I would I would love to see a Bob second doll painting I'm using glitter and
glue I've got
I've got oh my god oh yeah I never realized you were so crafty oh yeah I love
my glue gun
I didn't know nice nice remember those men you could burn yourself so bad I
didn't know
I um oh yeah no my lady she's a fan of the hot glue gun I use a lot of rubber
cement with my
little crafting me kind of thing with that like it takes a while to dry but it
worked out pretty well
well I love the rubbers as a kid uh I was making model airplanes model cars but
I just like the glue
which you didn't you know you can't really say that but I did and I loved
rubber cement I love the
smell of rubber cement which is like yeah no yeah no love the smell of it I
remember in school also
like when you get like a freshly printed out paper and like you just smell it I
love that like like
the toner kind of smell yeah and they don't have it anymore but back in the day
and I think it was
in like Fast Times at Ridgemont High or maybe Breakfast Club Mimeos I don't
think Mimeos are
in Breakfast Club but there was always a comedy scene where all the kids would
get their test you know
the test form and they'd sniff it because the Mimeo kind of got you high yeah
yeah I think that's from
Fast Times yeah yeah yeah a lot of good stuff is in Fast Times I mean uh you
know Phoebe Cates you say
that I think I watched it the first time I was too young I was just way too
young when I first saw it
and then like yeah and I saw it when I was like I saw it when I was like 10 and
then like I thought
again I was like older I'm like oh okay this makes more sense to me yeah but it
was a little too early
I think but yeah I don't know how I tripped upon it but you're 10 Mac is other
people's 40 I mean
you you've you've lived like nine lives I guess I didn't relate to Jennifer
Jason Lee I guess all that
much of 10 but yeah oh yeah good point good point there yeah her struggle is uh
is a struggle that
exists uh to this day um well let's not go there uh but yeah yeah let's talk
about how you're doing
something wonderful you you're you're still doing and I was lucky to uh be with
you on your bunny ears
podcast because it's just you being a sweetheart and just being a really caring
fun person and a good
friend and um oh yeah yeah well thanks you know yeah I mean we've been on an
extended hiatus
obviously you know it's you know uh you know I'm I'm concentrating on making
jerky and I I pickle
everything now I'm Mr. Pickle uh over here in this house you ought to make it
you should make it
you need like a mini mart deal because all they want is like pickled eggs I
used to buy pickled eggs when
I would stop at a truck stop and uh all they do is give you diarrhea I don't
understand yeah yeah I
yeah I love I love them and actually I made first batch I made it with like
malt vinegar and my lady
hated it they hated it and she never had a pickled egg before so I was like oh
let me let me try one
like a with a white vinegar kind of thing and now it's all she wants like you
know they take about
10 days right I'm constantly putting a fresh jar in you know for you know just
so we like I know but
so that dozen's gonna be gone in the next 10 days I'm gonna do this my wife is
an amazing cook and uh I think
pickled eggs would make her really happy I mean she she like loves pickles
loves eggs you know the dad joke
version would be um I wanted to get a pickled egg so I got a chicken drunk
that would hey oh but you can't even see that's not even a joke because pickled
to no one of gen x
millennial and what what's the new thing what what's the uh what's the younger
than uh millennial
oh I uh I don't know generation y the pepsi generation something like that they're
all going
to be asking themselves generation y why why why yeah exactly why why did I
have to come up during
world war z um yeah anyway the pickled egg is they're predicting uh um a baby
boom in like nine months
oh for sure everyone's just at home yeah everyone's just at home making babies
alcohol is up um you
know prescriptions are up uh which means anybody that needs help they can get
themselves a viagra or
something similar and uh I don't know if that helps you launch babies or not I
think it just makes it
seem more impressive um yeah and yeah you're not you're not a guy that would
need that because
like you're you're a youngin but uh you know yeah yeah I'm young and virile
still yeah me too
and I actually sometimes get like a a pipe cleaner and some duct tape if it's
not staying up
uh nice yeah I you just use it like a little hair thingy and just kind of just
yeah around a couple
times a scrunchie yeah yeah some kind of scrunchie yeah scrunch it up bud scrunch
it up bro oh man
so so now we don't get to be in person with each other which is what I loved
about being with you and
doing your thing and we'll do it again when you're back um you you're doing
your jerky which is
a lot of people are doing a lot of jerky right now um yeah yeah sure are but
how are you doing
otherwise is what what's going on is everybody okay is your family okay yeah
yeah the whole family's
hold up they're all in New York uh I'm I'm the only LA alien uh but yeah they're
all hold up they're
all taking their precautions which is good um thankfully my mom lives like on a
ranch in Montana
like you know her nearest her nearest neighbors are miles away kind of thing so
that's that's good
that's still too close yeah most of my friends are doing good you know yeah
good good that makes me
everyone's going stir crazy I I'm I'm great like honestly I'm a homebody and I've
been training for
this my whole life like so this is great you really you really have you have
you have a Marlena
Dietrich thing about you you have a you have a Madonna you you you kind of uh I
mean it's because
you had such a level of fame and you were so amazing and are but I know what it's
like to to have fame
you know from the full house show and the video show and it just got to the
point when I was done
with them I didn't want to I just started directing stuff I didn't want to be
on camera I didn't want
to be around and then I just kind of yeah you really work it out of your system
yeah it's like okay I got
that but but but but but you still are doing great act I love the thing you did
with with our friend
Seth Seth Green um oh uh changelands changelands yeah it's really a sweet movie
really really sweet
have you had him on yet I haven't you you are my second uh guest of of of you
you are uh John
Stamos was my first because that's in the uh third testament and um that I had
to do that but I've
been because of what this is and my intentions of it um I've been talking to
people I've been uh having
them call a number I'll post it on Twitter or Instagram and then I'll tell them
to call it and
then they have questions and I call them and then I do that or I just riff I
just do kind of what
my friend Bill Burr does but uh Bill's amazing of course but I'm saying it's it's
that format I'll
just talk about you know what's going on and stories that remind me of my dad
and the great depression
and things you know really really uplifting but yeah yeah great yeah talk about
rationing
but it always thanks maggot but you know me it always ends up with my pants are
down and I'm saying
wiener five six times so you know there's always again typical sagot right
people are suffering how
about my wiener um yeah oh god in heaven uh so so now you are we're all on a
hold we we don't
know what and when and there's no way to know oh yeah I should yeah I should be
doing my second
week I was I'm doing um next season of American Horror Story and uh and yeah no
I was supposed to
start like last yes last Monday was supposed to be my first day so instead now
we're just everyone's
in a holding pattern I have no idea what's going on you know I think you know I'm
not the only one
so no it's the way that it is we're living in American Horror Story right now
right yeah no shit
but that's really cool I can't wait to see you on that because we are going to
come back from this
you know that um yeah yeah I just get weirded out if everyone just stayed home
for two weeks everyone
just stayed home for two weeks this thing would be over with yeah they won't do
it because a bunch
of states don't think it exists or it will affect them um do you have a live
cricket yeah yeah is
someone's I uh I live with I live with a hypochondriac germaphobe with OCD so
we we've been in quarantine
for about six weeks now that's hilarious because I literally do you hear that
it's an interesting
scratching sound oh I know what it is hold on it's it's my stupid bird oh it's
your bird yeah he's
walking in the background what kind of bird is it I don't mind I don't mind a
bird yeah but no he's
not like tweeting or whistling hey hey would you cut it out cut it out it's uh
his name is macho uh
he's actually Andy Richter's old bird funny enough oh that's hilarious why
couldn't Andy take care of
him anymore uh he's he was like moving and I think he's going through a divorce
right now and
oh I didn't know that oh I'm sorry yeah yeah so he's his life is like a little
bit in flux and so
you know you gotta prioritize well probably oh go ahead oh no actually was an
excuse to have him on
the podcast I was like come on over like visit your old bird so you know so
that's I enticed him to be
on my podcast uh to come come to my house and go hang out with the bird well if
you're totally shit on
a shoulder too it was great does it talk does this bird talk uh no he I mean he's
a blue-headed
pionist so he kind of looks like a parrot but it's not quite a parrot uh he
doesn't talk he whistles
a lot and he kind of will like kind of make voice like sounds but they're not
one of those like
mimicky kind of birds which is good because the uh the lady at the store was
trying to sell me on
African gray and I've actually had two African grays at one point and uh um man
I like I didn't really
spend time teaching them like how to speak so like what they did was they they
learned to imitate the
two worst things in the house which is the telephone and the doorbell and so I
was constantly
opening the freaking door expecting someone to be there it was goddamn birds
you know and they kept
on I kept on picking up the phone saying hello like you know it was it was it
was the worst it was the
worst you know yeah so no African gray she was trying to sell me on one I was
like nah nah nah so
I picked this one and she said you know and then she kind of privately told me
like oh this is actually
Andy Richter's bird do you know him
