Bob and Callers Find Good Out of Some Serious Troubles | Bob Saget

hey there it's uh it's just bobby and uh i'm here for you it's not called bobby's
here for you but
that would be kind of cool make my mom happy bobby wake up bobby that's how she
talked i'm
not kidding it's pretty upsetting but this is uh one of those episodes that
means a lot to me
because i get to call people that leave messages um and they've done it because
the number's up at
the top of the thing there on your menu and you you know whatever it's called
and uh in the header
i don't know what it is you know because i'm 104 i'm a i'm an oak i'm an elm so
uh i think eucalyptus
because i like that in my bathtub it goes up my uh my pooter and it makes me
burn why why say that
because that's how i made can't help it my dad did it to me didn't do it to me
my dad never touched me
but i mean he influenced me to do uh comedy you're not supposed to do uh but he
also taught me to be a
kind person and to care about others and that means a lot to me um that i
learned that from him
and then i try to impart it so uh this is one of those episodes that i'm
excited about because i'm
going to call people uh you were kind enough to leave your your numbers and
your messages and what
you want to talk about and i don't even know what the subjects are i just have
your uh your names and
your numbers and uh what else can i tell you well you want to uh subscribe or
follow whatever you do
uh where you do your podcast it's free when you do that you know and then uh
review and rate always
give it a good score you know when you say mean stuff i just get rid of you
anyway no i don't i don't
i can take the mean i don't even look at it sometimes if it's mean but i try
not to block people but i
can't do negative because life's too short i don't deserve it because uh i'm a
good person uh that's what
the guy said before he did something wrong but i am because i don't go nowhere
uh and i have great
grammar all i do is go to my grammar lessons and they ain't helping me
so i'm gonna call somebody right now this is uh evan evan i'm calling evan
he's gonna be my new friend and i hope he's doing okay i don't know what area
code this is
but it's gonna be evan
evan bob saget how are you i am great how are you really good sir really good
uh so where are you what
part of the uh world are you so i'm actually in memphis tennessee right now but
i was living in la i moved
there in january to start my career in the film industry and then i had to move
back there in
march when everything yeah it was weird timing wasn't it to uh start the film
industry right so
you're a young man i would say you finished college is that the deal i
graduated a year
about a year ago and what was your studies uh film all right that's what i did
i went to film
school at temple university in philadelphia and then moved to la and then ended
up not going to grad
school at usc and became a comedian at the comedy store for free and it changed
my life that i had
been a comedian already well it was nice of you to call me um are you hanging
in okay are you quarantining
in in memphis um i mean i'm getting depressed a little bit but i mean it's just
quarantine depression
now the depression is it um anything i need to worry about
now it's just from being pooped up right are you with people are you with
anyone
i am i'm with my mom right now who didn't believe you were going to call
oh here let me just let you say hi to her okay good what's her name
laura great hey hello hi laura bob saget how are you i heard my son said so i'm
like yeah right
whatever i am well no i am well i think it's my fault it's my fault that this
kid's a fan of course
that was way back in the early uh full house days but you know right and the
video show probably because
because uh boys oh my gosh that was that was awesome the video show we we still
catch those reruns
that was pre-wifi that's how long ago that was sorry okay you're aging me now
oh no you're young
forever so so now evan is he is he doing good are you taking care of each other
is it difficult it's
difficult because it is right it's difficult you know i mean the kid had just
the evan had just gone
to la he's been working as a pa out in lr out in la and and and had gotten some
jobs and then here came
covid you know so as he said this morning it's not that his dreams are um ended
his dreams are just
put on hold that is the truth with everybody with most people you know it's
just uh the the select few
get to keep doing stuff because of whatever they do but when you're starting
out you definitely need
to be on the front lines unless you can do something at your computer screen
but are you doing okay
i'm i'm okay i'm you know i work from home and so it's fortunate and
unfortunate i i work from home
even before covid i do early intervention i work with families with children
birth to three who are
at risk or are born with a diagnosis so i do a lot of my and i'm i'm
administrator at this point i'm
not so much doing um family um front line as much anymore but it's it's a it's
to drop because the
families the population that we serve are very much struggling through this
right i mean you said you're a
special needs child and then a special needs child without routine it's even
harder oh you're breaking
my heart you're so wonderful to do what you do thank you well thank you i am
going to give you back
to evan because he's got this great big grin on his face and oh he's very
excited well i'm gonna i'm
gonna inspire the lad and uh thank you for doing all that you do is memphis hit
pretty hard with covet
memphis is hit pretty hard our hispanic and african american population has
been hit the hardest and
part of that has to do with the um lack of of uh doctors and and for them and
lack of of really
information right um definitely but it's also that being said though memphis
has done an also a very good
job of of of answering that need and really um trying to um help the the
populations as a whole um
have access to to the health care and to um the tests and and and the
information as much as possible
it's so important and thank you so much for sharing that with me and i wish you
all the best
oh well thank you and thanks for all thank you and thank you for all the laughs
over the years
i'm gonna i'm gonna keep going i'm gonna keep going even though it's hard
sometimes but uh that's
that's my job that's my my frontline working is to try to get people let me let
me talk to evan and
try to get him out of the funk whatever i can do hey hey thank you boy you got
a great mom there
thanks a lot of people she's probably driving you crazy but but that's your
problem
no we get along pretty well oh good we haven't no we haven't we don't want to
trade families yet
no good yeah right so a family swap but some people uh they swing with other
families so
so you graduated you were uh ice so what's your question or how can i help you
would it be advice
on how to get uh through this and get into the business is that kind of the the
area you want i
mean yeah advice on like uh because i know you direct too and i want to
essentially i want to
write and direct so right now i'm writing because i need to have something to
direct at this point
the important thing is to write um if you're able to write during this and and
depression doesn't help
writing uh sometimes you just especially comedy yeah and you want to write
comedy specifically
yeah well just uh do it just do it you know everybody's saying the same thing
just do it and
just keep rewriting it just keep rewriting it write it all get something
written i don't know if it's long
or short form i would recommend short form to start but if you're writing a
movie you're writing a movie
but uh you know there's a lot of demand for stuff but um definitely just keep
rewriting it and make
it better and if it sounds like other things you've seen already try to avoid
that and go a different
path if it's possible you know what i mean so that it's not it doesn't feel
like i was watching something
the other night and i'm working on a project and i'm like oh crap this is in
their project i i can't uh
i can't do that line i can't do that joke i can't uh touch it so sorry my voice
got high i'm talking to
you i got youthful so uh so that's kind of all i could say you're doing the
right thing you have to
know your there's nothing you can do right now and if you're able to work and
write you're going to be
very appreciative that you took this time to do that because you'll end up with
a script or a couple
scripts go ahead i'm trying to write it's just motivation to do anything is
really hard right now
i know i know but kick yourself in the butt it's best to try it early in the
morning
they always say writing is great early in the morning some people are late
night people but a
lot of times when i write at night i'm best off just taking my iphone and
putting it in the notes
something i have ideas for or literally write on my iphone and then the next
morning i'm able to
transcribe it and turn it into something but that's all i have to do that i'll
wake up at like 2 a.m
and have an idea and have to write it down on my phone so i don't lose the
inspiration i forget it
yep we'll try to get sleep and then uh try not to spend too much time in the
shower because mom
knows what's going on and uh you know what are you going to do and and make
sure the locks are good
locks are good on the bathroom is very important um deadbolts are good you know
four deadbolts on
the bathroom i needed as a kid you take care of yourself okay man thanks for
the inspiration thanks for
calling and and be well and just uh and when you're back out here it'll be a
different world and one
that you'll this time you'll go oh that's what i that's the reason i was doing
this for a year and a
half it's about your own self-growth is how what i think and i don't mean the
one that you have to
pour cold water on on the shower i mean you know just uh just make sure that
door is locked your mom's
in the house for god's sakes okay take care and tell her uh thank you thank you
bob take care evan bye bye
my nephew's like that he doesn't like to say goodbye i understand uh marissa i'm
calling marissa um
hi this is marissa hi marissa bob saget how are you hi bob saget how are you
doing that's funny i do
have two i'm two names my my name is just bob saget uh i'm good where where are
you marissa what part of
the uh country i'm in berwin illinois which is about 10 minutes outside of the
great city of chicago oh yeah
that's uh where my wife and her family are from and i know it's been a
difficult time with covid and with
everything that's going on with all of the uh murders and life is very very
hard um how are you holding up
oh well thanks for asking um i'm a registered nurse so i'm actually helping out
um downtown and
in some rural areas with the corona testing and i feel really fortunate that
knock on wood
my family's been healthy and i'm glad i get to help other people oh you're an
angel thank you thank you
do you get scared when someone tests positive that you could have it after that
no what i get scared about is right now our tests are about two weeks in
turnaround time
and i'm getting people that i know are positive i mean i can tell from their
symptoms are positive
but and those symptoms would be a fever and and the lungs and they have trouble
breathing and all that
a lot of people i'm seeing just come in with no symptoms except they just say
flat flat out i can't
smell or taste anything otherwise i feel fine there it is right so that seems
to and some people i've had a
couple who have just had some really mild digestive issues so what's terrifying
about it is we don't
really know how it presents but a lot of times if somebody's young and
otherwise healthy oh i haven't
been sick in three years and i just don't feel right there seems to be some
correlation there so but people
in chicago and illinois are doing great with the mask wearing they really are
right that's tho
