Jodie Sweetin Talks About the Meaningful Moments Between the Lines of Full House and Fuller House

Well, this is going to be an episode that Full House fans and Fuller House fans
are going to
listen to because Jodi Sweeten is my guest. I've known her since she's five
years old.
Wow, right? That's what I say. And we've always been good friends and even more
so as she became
a young woman and now that she's blossomed into an amazing person and learned
so much and I've
learned from her and she's been there for me when I've needed her actually and
helped me with her
life experience and she puts a lot of that in her book Unsweetened. Unsweetened.
You can get it on
Amazon. You can get it anywhere and she also has a podcast because never
thought I'd say this and
that is, let me make sure, three months it's coming out. I never thought I'd
say this will be out again
in three months. There's three years of it that exists so you can listen to her
also and it's,
you know, funny stories and giving life advice but her wealth of experience is
way beyond her years
because she's been through more than a lot of people and she's not afraid to
talk about it and
share what she's learned. I hope you enjoy this. It's a long podcast. I will
tell you this is a long
episode. So if you have any full or fuller house thoughts, you'll get that. If
you want to know
what Jody's passionate about, you're going to hear about that and if you want
to hear some true
honesty and some really wise things she has to say and what she believes and
how she wants to solve
problems of the whole world, you'll be able to hear that. So here is my friend,
Jody Sweden.
How great you look. I just put some lipstick on. I thought I'd look a little.
Me too.
Yeah. And then I, now I have these little blue light glass. I just put those on
and I'm like,
you can't tell if I have makeup on or not. That's why I wear glasses because
people always
compliment my lashes. I think it's, well, they're beautiful. They really are.
If you use cherry
chapstick, it looks like lipstick. There's nothing I can do about it.
True story. When I was a kid, I actually used to take little tiny nibbles off
of cherry chapstick
because I was hoping that it would taste like cherry. Really didn't. It tasted
like wax.
Disgusting. But I kept trying.
Did you eat crayons?
I don't know why. No, I just, no, cherry chapstick. I just wanted to like,
you know, have, have a nibble.
It looks good.
I mean, some people would probably, you know, I was like five, four, little.
Some of my listeners in their twenties actually eat that. That's all they eat.
I mean, it's, it's an effective, uh, uh.
Stomach filler?
Something. I don't even know. I can't, all I'm picturing is like someone just
stuffed with wax
and it's really not, it's not a good picture.
No, it's a museum that we can't even go to. First rule of improv with me is
just don't go with it.
Unfortunately, I do. I actually, I told the story recently, uh, they were like,
oh, what was it like growing up with Bob?
I said, well, Bob really informed my sense of humor. I said, but I believe it
was at the wrap party for Fuller House.
I said, Bob and I were talking and I said something. I don't remember what
exactly what it was.
Probably. Thank God. And I said it. And you just went, wow.
Oh, cause you were out.
Cause I just went and you were like,
You went for more than I can handle.
You, you actually, and I, I said, wait, Bob, did I out Bob you?
The thing is I always, you know, uh, when a person says they have a good heart,
that means don't trust them.
But, but, but you know me though, you've known me since you're five.
So, right.
No. And that's the thing. It's like, I know you, I like, I love you.
And I was so excited that you asked me to come on the podcast today. It'd be
fun.
Well, it was inevitable. I mean, you know, you were going to be on.
Yes. Well, and it's an even trade. You'll do mine too. So.
I'm in. I'm in. When is, when is, is yours happening right now?
No, we just went on a break. We just ended our third season and we start our
fourth season.
Uh, we're just working on some ad stuff and production things and whatever.
So we'll start that. I think probably June, I think we're going to start
recording episodes.
Are you changing the title?
No. No, it's never thought I'd say this.
I didn't think you'd say that.
I never did either.
Who do you do it with?
Uh, I do the podcast with my best friend, Celia Behar, who is actually, uh, she
and I met,
she runs a mom group and she and I became internet fans, internet friends like
eight years ago.
Right.
And, um, we are now best friends. Our girls are very similar ages and she is as
dark and, um, and terrible a person as I am. And so it just kind of worked.
Now again, people, listen, she is the best person.
Um, you know, I've known you your whole life. Um, and we've stayed friends
throughout everything except when we both detach for different reasons as
people do.
Right. As, as, as, yeah, exactly. As you do. And I never, I don't think I ever
felt detached from you guys.
Never, never, never felt like there was a rift at all between our family.
No, we are there. We are related. We actually are related. We really are.
You know what I mean? Like we really are. Like there, somebody might be, you
know, angry.
Right.
But, but never, it's never like, I'm never going to talk to this person again.
It's like, oh my God, I'm angry or this or that. Or like, oh, we, you know,
family meeting time.
But then it gets resolved and, and it literally ends like a full house episode
with, um, and it's.
But, but usually with us, we never argued. Well, we didn't, um, but.
Well, that would have been weird if you were arguing with an eight year old.
But yeah, but I had three daughters, as you know, so I did sometimes when they're
yours, as you know, when they're yours, it's different, right?
What do you have like, you have like seven, eight children, 10, 12.
It feels like it. No, I have, I have a 13 year old girl and an almost 11 year
old girl. And it's, it's a lot.
Yeah.
Well, I have 34, 31 and 28.
Oh my God.
Isn't that weird?
How are they that old?
Well, it's just so weird because I'm old.
I'm like, I'm not, I'm not old, but I just have, I, hearing that they're like,
yeah, 34, I mean, they're adults.
How, how old are you?
And I know them as adults.
How old are you?
Are you 30?
39.
You're 39?
Yeah.
I'm going to die.
I mean, eventually.
I hate to break it.
I don't think I can die.
I actually don't.
I mean, I don't think any, I don't think any of the full house cast actually
will ever.
And can't.
No, no.
I don't know what happened, but we are well preserved.
It's really good.
And it's my case.
It's pickling.
Lots of vinegar.
It's a vinegar bath every night.
Social media has gotten so wrong and so evil.
Where I used to be able to put a joke on Twitter and now it's just.
Right.
And I have to block because I can't put up with a negative like that or lies.
It's just crap.
Oh, it's insane.
I mean, you know, social media brings out just all of the worst in human nature.
It's, you know, the ability to be anonymously mean.
And some of them mean.
Boy, the shade and Freud of other people, you know.
What did, what did you do all those years?
You had so many ups and downs.
You, to me, you're the biggest success story of someone that I love and know.
Because I talked to you through all, pretty much throughout every chapter.
Yeah, you have.
Of this book.
Right here.
And there it is.
I just happen to have it.
It's a great title, by the way.
Unsweetened.
Thank you.
It's like the best title ever.
Thank you.
Your name really paid off for this book.
I mean, it really did.
And I will say, people are always like, is that your real name?
Like, that is, that is my real name.
That's my dad's side is all, is the sweetens.
So, yeah.
And, and he is, and they are, and so is your mom.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was nice.
I got to spend Mother's Day with her yesterday.
That was really good.
I saw that.
I saw that on the, on the, uh, interweb.
So, yes.
And speaking of the interwebs, the nice things that come out on the interwebs,
like, you
know, time with family and times when we get to get together and.
Right.
You know, stuff like that.
But I, social media brings out the worst in people.
I, I mean, I wonder what they're like.
I definitely have engaged in it.
In real life.
Do you block, do you block people?
I block people sometimes, sometimes I'll engage.
If I realize that it's a, uh, like an actual human.
On social media, there's so many just bought accounts and like fake ones.
So I'll click on it.
And if it says like zero posts, but they follow 1700 people and like 18 people
follow them.
I'm like, okay, this is just a, this is not a real, I'm not going to waste my
time.
Right.
But occasionally I'll be like, oh no, this is a real person.
And you just came after me.
And now I have something to say, I'm going to block you, but I just need to say.
I wonder if you say the comment and then block them.
Did they get the comment before they were blocked?
I wait till you all post it.
And then like, if they comment back, then I'm like, yeah, I'm done now.
And then I'll block them.
Well, it's, it's good to give them respect as though their opinion matters.
But if it's scathing and if it's a lie, I have no problem with opinions.
Um, but like if, and I, you know, I always say, I'm like people come to our
pages now to
just be, and that's, this is the thing I don't understand is when people come
like knocking
on the door of your Instagram and follow you and then come on there and just
hate on you.
I'm like, yeah, you're here.
I go, I won.
You decided to follow me.
Like, okay.
And it's your page.
I mean, that is like, it's my page.
If you don't like it, unfollow me.
And, and I don't need an announcement.
That's okay.
I've, you know, unfollowing.
Right.
Goodbye.
And then the best part is when, when they don't, and then they comment again, I'm
like,
Oh, you're still here.
I see.
Sometimes they can come on after I blocked them.
They are really smart.
They're like rats.
You can't get rid.
But I wonder what the people that are misinformed or believe what the herd says,
like I'm on
TikTok and then the mob heard made up stuff from my roast.
They believe that to be the news because they didn't know what roasts were.
And yeah, there was stuff said in that, that I didn't like.
And you were there.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, you were at my roast because we support each other because I love
you and
I love you too.
And I mean, here's the thing is, you know, I think you can, you can pick apart
anyone,
right?
You can pick apart anyone from being like, I can't believe you said that,
laughed at that.
We're in the same room as someone that did, you know, we can all fail the
purity test at
one point or another of whatever, you know, whatever it is that we're supposed
to be.
But I think we know I have, but I'm a comedian, so that's my sense of humor.
But in real life, you have one of the biggest hearts of anyone.
Like you are genuinely it.
Oh, that sounds like a problem.
It's a foot in diameter.
My heart is a real problem.
It's most of my chest cavity.
Well, I mean, it's better than your prostate.
Oh, see now that I haven't, my prostate's in my chest.
That's why I'm such an asshole.
It didn't, it didn't start there, but it just slowly worked its way up.
That's good.
It's not, it's gravity's not pulling it down with age.
No, no, no.
See, but now people will say they heard this on the podcast.
So it's fact that I have an enlarged, I have an enlarged prostate in my chest.
Right.
And then people are going to start diagnosing you.
And then people are going to be like, I can't believe they talked about that.
And then, right.
I mean, you know, it's, people just, I think comedians right now, especially
like it's, you
know, it is a little bit dangerous.
Like how, how far do we say you can't go?
And, you know, I think what, you know, we're learning more and more like, you
know, how our
words really affect the world around us.
And I think social media has just made that so apparent.
Like what we sa
