Hi, everybody.
It is...
Hi, everybody.
It's Robert Seger.
It's Robert Seger is here for you.
The French version of Bob Saget is here for you.
This is a podcast.
This is a podcast.
Everybody has one.
Literally, all of you listening have a podcast.
So, this is just another one that hopefully entertains in my brand of whatever.
I guess my new brand of podcasting is listening.
And then I'll throw something in and people say, I like it better when he
listens.
And I do love listening, especially when I have a guest like I have today,
Jason Alexander.
I've known Jason a long time.
But he's just...
He's a sweetheart.
He's got such a big heart.
And he's incredibly articulate about what he cares about and why.
He's always doing stuff.
He's about to do a play of Where the Roses on Broadway.
He's working on that.
He's got a new podcast coming out.
I believe it's called, Oh Really?
Really?
And that would be with Peter Tilden.
And so, you'll be able to hear that fairly soon.
I think it's coming out in the next month or so.
And I just love the man.
And all I can tell you is he's about to come into my little Zoom room here.
That's how we do things, right?
Hey, do you want to Zoom?
No, it's just us.
Let's FaceTime.
But that's not what this is.
This is a podcast that you can watch on the YouTube page if you love a two-shot
that doesn't move.
That would be at youtube.com slash bobsagget.
And, of course, you can rate, review, and subscribe.
You subscribe and then you can listen.
Or if you're on another thing, you can follow it and then listen.
I'm very specific about this.
And that's it.
I really appreciate all of the kind words I've been getting from many of you.
And very sweet stuff about losing Norm Macdonald.
And let's hope we don't have to do many more of those eulogies.
But life is what it is.
But you've gone way too soon.
And sending lots of love to all the people that were in his immediate orbit.
His family.
And to all of you that loved him.
Because that one hurt.
They all hurt, right?
But it's good to have people that you love.
So keep your friends close.
And I've got one coming in right now who will warm your heart because he's a
positive energy.
Boy, do I sound cosmic.
And Nine Perfect Strangers.
We're here to love what we are.
And Jason Alexander is a man who has a giant capacity for love.
So please welcome, if you would, my friend, Jason Alexander.
Jason, this is our first blurred episode.
I'm really excited.
Oh, it is very exciting.
It's very exciting.
And Zoom, how do they make money?
Do you pay for Zoom?
You pay for the premium Zoom, which allows you to go more than 45 minutes.
Oh, I've got that then.
Right?
Well, I go more than 45.
You have a business manager.
And you, like me, have no idea what they're doing.
I think they're in Cancun right now.
They're gone.
They're in Tulum.
Because you can't find them from Cancun.
Ah, you look wonderful.
You're very kind.
I know from the waist down, we're both a mess.
But upward for the Zooms.
Nothing has changed.
You know, I can't put that on the pandemic.
That was a plague before this came in.
Oh, I don't want to mention the pandemic because we don't know when this is
going to run.
Oh, my grandmother.
What a world.
What a world.
And we haven't really connected.
We've texted and you're always a sweetheart.
But, oh, man.
I can't say it.
What have you been doing other than this?
I've been on tour doing stand-up.
You're a brave man.
I'm about to go out on a tour.
Right.
And I did my first audience last week in Portland.
And it's a thing.
It's a thing.
It is.
I was up there last week also.
I think a week and a half ago, Portland.
Yeah.
It's interesting because we're living through history.
So you see downtown and you go, so this is where that happened and this is
where that happened.
Yep.
Wow.
Okay.
And they're working on, everybody's working on trying to dig out of all this.
What else can we do?
And what is the show?
Are you back to that wonderful character?
No, you're so sweet.
So, no, you're talking about the Donny Clay thing, which was a purely
theatrical stand-up show where I played a very bad motivational speaker.
Donny sort of played his way out.
And Donny was more of a show.
It needed props and it needed screens and it needed all kinds of things.
So, no, this show is kind of an organized Q&A show that needs no moderator.
So, it came from years of me being asked, for no godly reason, to be keynote
speaker for different things, organizations, charities, businesses, colleges.
And I would go, in every case, I'd go, well, what do you want me to talk about?
And sometimes they'd say, oh, your career, Seinfeld, whatever.
But other times it was, well, we know you've done a lot of work in the Middle
East as an activist and you're political.
Or we know you wrote a children's book.
Or actually, you know what, we've been watching you play poker and maybe there's
something about.
So, whatever it was that they would ask me to do, I would prep that.
And then you'd do the meet and greets after.
And, you know, you'd always get, the whole world becomes Jewish on a meet and
greet because they all go, I had such a wonderful time.
But you have such a lovely voice.
I wish you had sung something.
You didn't have to be so funny.
I like the serious, nobody was happy.
And these are not Jewish people.
No, they just become Jewish on a meet and greet line.
The accent, they all turn into Nancy Walker.
That is correct.
That's a reference for no one listening.
Except Valerie Harper.
She was, and Nancy Walker was brilliant.
All right, please, please continue.
So, what I did finally is I said, okay, here's like 25 things that people seem
to be interested in.
They each have a story.
The story actually is a little bit of a life lesson for me, which might mean
that it is impactful for the person hearing it.
And I put them in the program.
Here's the list.
And I come out, I do an opening number.
And I go, here's how this works.
I don't want guilt anymore.
I don't want to be disappointing people.
So, we're going to go around the room during the course of the night and look
at the list.
Some of them are funny.
Some of them are not.
Some of them have songs.
Some of them most do not.
Some of them, one is a magic thing.
One is another thing.
One is a thing.
I'll call on you.
You pick one.
You can also ask me something that's not on the list.
You can do that, too.
But at least you have a list.
And we can get, depending on what they pick, we can get through anywhere from
four to eight of these things in 75 minutes.
And if the night is great and everybody had a great time, I was really good.
If they didn't have a great time, they picked the wrong stuff.
That's their fault.
That's how it works.
Right.
So, you know, and my wife's phone is going off.
Not my phone.
My wife's phone.
But why is your wife's phone right there?
Is it a burner phone?
Ah, now you've asked an important question.
Because this phone, this phone, wherever my wife is, like a breadcrumb, the
phone remains and she moves on.
She will come in here in a moment to say, did you hear my phone?
I guarantee you.
Guarantee it.
And she's wonderful.
You have a wonderful wife.
Which is why I can't say Schnee.
I go, yes, sweetheart.
Here's your phone.
That's me calling.
I call your wife.
Whoops.
It's all good.
Darn.
So you're waiting for her right now to come for her phone.
Actually, I think that was someone calling her.
She has no idea.
She has no idea that this is her phone.
That's so interesting.
My wife would never leave the phone, like, next to me.
She drops it.
What if she goes somewhere?
What if she's going somewhere?
You want to be able to know where she is?
Many, many times.
She'll stop by a friend and go, can I use your phone for a second to call me
and go, do you have my phone?
So she just forgets it?
She just forgets it.
Yeah.
Gosh, if it's on your desk and you were sitting there, was she on your lap?
Is that what was happening right before she left her phone?
And she was.
Yeah.
I like, you know, before I do a podcast, I like a little nookie.
And do you have any video?
Can you add video?
We'll just roll it in.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It really helps with the YouTube hits.
Oh, God in heaven.
So you're always busy.
What?
Always.
I mean, you're in the middle of a celebrity game show.
That's a fun one.
Didn't you just do it?
It just aired.
I did this.
I did Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.
Right.
That was the thing.
And it went well.
And I did not think it would go well.
There are game shows I do where I go, I'm going to crush this thing.
And that was not one where I went in with confidence.
But I did manage to do very well.
Right.
I've done a couple.
And I went in to do Match Game with Alec Baldwin.
And he is so nice to me.
He goes, come on, you comedy genius.
And that's the kiss of death.
And I just sat there.
And all of these people, Tom Lennon, they're just running circles around me.
And I'm sitting there.
And I just kind of like, I'm thinking to myself, I don't belong here.
Well, here's the problem with that game, and you must experience it too,
because I know you being a man of the people, you're actually trying to help
the contestant.
So, there's the funny answer, which will make you look like a hero, and then
there's the one they might have said.
And what do you go for?
And what do you go for?
Do you sacrifice the funny one, because it's an entertainment show in the guise
of a game show.
So, do you ditch the funny stuff and try and match them, or do you go, hell
with you, I'm here to be entertaining.
It's an unknowable show, match game.
That's why The Pyramid, The Pyramid was the perfect game.
Yes, it was.
I never played that, and I was asked.
I killed, killed on The Pyramid.
Yes, you did.
I loved it, loved it.
You should have gotten an Emmy for that.
Listen, we're going to start making that list.
So, what happens to you every year?
I mean, I knew Full House, I was never getting nothing, you know, video show.
They created a category for hosting the video show, specifically after I left.
