Hey, hi everybody, Bob Saget, and it's Bob Saget's here for you, the podcast
that will never stop
because never, ever, never stop. Why should it? I mean, why? It's exciting to
be here over at
All Things Comedy. More importantly, I'm still in front of my crappy little
stuff with my tchotchkes
on it. If you're looking at this online on your fabulous youtube.com slash Bob
Saget, you don't
know what the hell's going on. That's my desk. I just put a bunch of shit. That's
Larry of the Three
Stooges behind me there, and that's Rodney Dangerfield and Red Fox smoking a
joint, but it
always has bad reflection on it, so I'll change that out. That's what you got
to look forward to
with this podcast if you look at it on the YouTube page, but I think audio is
the key. So I was supposed
to be recording Marlon Wayans a little later. Then all of a sudden, he had to
go to the set of his new
movie that's tentatively titled Boo, which is a scary movie, but not really,
and it's a comedy, but it has
heart. So he had to leave early, so I ran downstairs, didn't get the chance to
do up my hair that looks
like a Lego toy. I didn't have a chance to position the microphone, so it looks
like I'm doing a press
conference on South Park, and so that's what you're looking at, but you're not
looking at it. You're
looking at it in a promo, maybe, but I love Marlon Wayans. I always have. I've
known him since he was a
kid. That's what I told the judge. What I will say is do not have kids listen
to this. I'm probably the
biggest proponent of R-rated language during this. Brief and fun and good catch-up
with Marlon.
I've known him since he was 10 or 11, been friends with Kenan and Damon over
the years,
and have nothing but love and high regard for this man. He is super talented. I
just watched
Respect, the great story of Aretha Franklin, and he is just amazing in it. He
is such a good actor.
And then, of course, you all know all of his movies, literally, from Little Man
to White Chicks to,
I mean, you know, we're talking about legendary movies. We got a list of comedy
movies that this
man has been part of with his brothers on his own. He is absolutely hilarious.
He takes risks. He does
what he finds funny. He's got different specials. I don't know if you saw Wokish.
It was pretty,
pretty damn good. It's on Netflix. And right now, you know what it is. You know
what it is. That's on
HBO Max. And Aretha, I just watched on the Apple TV. I always put the before it
because David Letterman
told me to do that. He didn't. He just did it and I stole it. I think most
people did and didn't realize
that's David Letterman on the TV on the Apple. Anyway, Marlon Wayans, he is
just, he talks a lot in his
special stuff that you wouldn't think a lot of stand-ups would talk about. And
yet, we're in a different
realm right now with comedy. So, it's a pleasure to welcome him in. And you
know what to do with this
podcast. That sounds something like, I'm going to say something like, shove it.
But no, you can rate,
review it, follow it, subscribe it. You can get it everywhere. It's at Apple,
Spotify. You know,
I always say, Twatcher, Clatcher, Blintzen. It's at every place. And this is a
pleasure to bring in
somebody. When you say the name Marlon Wayans, it makes you smile. It just
makes you feel good. It
makes you think of his brothers. It makes you think of his sister. It makes you
think of their family.
And he's very, very honest and has amazing energy. And I'm really happy I was
able to grab him
right before he went to work on the set of his new movie he's shooting right
now. So, here we go.
Here comes Mr. Marlon Wayans.
Oh, yeah. Oh, oh. So handsome. Doesn't matter what level you're at. Doesn't
matter where the camera
is. You're so handsome. What's up, Bob Saget? Marlon. Look what I did. Craziest
man I know.
You have two microphones like you're doing a press conference.
This is one is for, you know, you never know when the Russians are going to tap
in.
Right. I did this. Sorry, I'm late. You're early. Holy crap. I love when you
have to go to work.
I'm sorry. I'm early. I meant to be late. I love when you're early. I mean, I
know you've heard that
before. I hate it. I don't. You know what? I've literally and I don't. I think
maybe it's because
in our industry, we always have to hurry up. Yep. And wait. And I hate waiting.
I'd rather just
go. I want to just do get my thing done. And I'd rather be a little bit late
and go straight into
doing it and get it done on time than to be early and sitting around waiting
when I could have done
those things. That's what I do with sex. I don't like the waiting. I like to
hurry, get it, bust it
off, get it out and let them catch up. But I'll see you on the second. That's
right. I'll see you on
the second, the second nut. Get on my level. I got a chair that goes up and
down like in
a, so we can't talk like this, but we can because we're comedians. And if I'm,
go ahead, you're
Bob Saget. And I know you have the, everybody knows you for like this. Oh,
sweet family tie.
Family matters. Family ties. Family matters. You guys, black guys, confused all
the time too.
It's the family thing. Family matters was, was a black show and then they
brought her and made
it otherworldly. And he's lovely. Jaleel is a lovely, lovely guy. I really, you
know,
it's funny watching him on that show. I used to, he was so good. I used to sit
there and go,
I want to be like him. Yeah. I still want to be like Urkel. But you, what's so
weird about
knowing you and I've known you literally your whole, your whole childhood onward.
Cause I was
friends with Kenan was still younger than me by a minute. And, uh, and Damon
was four years younger
than me. And I started with your brothers and at the comedy store and we
literally became friends.
And it was, and some people go, Bob, you're making that up. They didn't really
like you that much,
but it's no, and I'm not, I, I grew up in the comedy clubs. Like I used to be
in the comedy clubs,
I swear to God, like 12 years old with Damon, watching him put together a set
or go watch Kenan
do a spot. And so I met all you guys. I remember, I remember meeting you and
Sean was just smiling a lot.
He thought something was wrong with him. Like something's wrong with that kid.
Smiles too much. Doesn't say much. He smiles too much.
What's so brilliant about what you do. And, and, you know, we all know that you're
from one of the
most talented comedy families on the earth. It's not even possible that
genetics can work properly
normally with a family, but a lot of great, it is a, you must stop and go, holy
shit. How could this
have happened? No, it's dysfunctionally functional. I think why there's like a
formula to our life.
I think it's from being raised by the same parents. They just gave us so much
comedy because they never
got along. And so my mother used to always go, you know, what's funny about my
father. And we watched
her talk nonsense about him every day for like 40 years. And eventually we just
learned what humor was,
which is in your worst moments, find something funny to talk about, lean into
it and talk about
it until you find out what's truly funny about the thing that's hurting you
most.
And that's how I live. And, and you know, something about me, I've lost a lot
of people,
a lot of terrible shits happen. And if you're strong enough, you, and you're
funny and survival,
you become a comedian and
you get through. Well, you've only been doing it like eight years or something,
right?
I've been doing standup now 10 years.
I'm watching old interviews. That's the bad part. When you do a deep dive on
someone you've known
forever.
No, I've done it. It's been 10 years. And, uh, you know, I, I, I was afraid to
do a standup for so
long because, you know, I come from a family for comedians and, you know, you
talk about your life
experience and I'm like six people that preceded me with comedy. I have nothing
left to talk about.
They got all the material, but then you realize like with comedy and comedians,
everybody has sex. Everybody has parent jokes. Everybody has, we all have our
own life experience
about an experience that we all had, but we share a different point of view.
And that's what's great
about comedy just because my brothers had my parents. They had my parents. They
had the older
version of my parents. I got my parents when they were young, uh, a little
spoiled by Keenan Damon.
I got less beatings. I, I used to laugh with my parents and smile with them and
joke with them.
I remember one time I pulled my dad's pants down and my brother Keenan was like,
oh my God,
you can't do that. And he reacted like an old slave that didn't know he had his
freedom.
And I was like, don't you do that to Master Howell? I was like, he's fine. That's
the way we play.
And, and, and so you realize like with standup, you know, you're sitting there
and everybody's
going to have a Trump joke. Everybody's going to have a, a poverty joke and you
don't care because
it's not about what your joke is. It's about what my experience is that makes
me different.
Well, you were born with an unusual amount of energy and I think that might be
true. Keenan
is very level cereal. The crack in my cereal. Right, right, right. Well, that's,
that's actually,
um, you know, oxy is really good when you're using cotton. It makes me sleep
sleepy.
That's going to be the sound bite. That's what we're going to use for the promo.
He's cracking his cereal. Oh, Marlon. I'm so happy to talk to you. One thing
about doing this pod,
there's something, it is weird. We cannot see each other for, I mean, we run
each other,
run into each other in an airport and it's just a hug and it's like real
because there's comedians are,
it's a close thing to people that are funny. It's a close thing.
Yeah. Yeah. The unfunny people just, what's up? How you doing?
You hear a funny person died. What's up? Uh, that's good for him. Maybe they'll
find some jokes in
heaven. Right. And then the bad part is you get on the front of the plane and
there they go to the
back and you feel bad. That's mean. That's mean. Well, you've talked about shit.
I got to talk about
it because you talk about shit. Go ahead. I talk about losing people. I love 29
people in the last
two years alone, including my mom. Oh, I didn't know that. I'm so sorry. Yeah.
And I've learned
we truly are gifted as comedians because it's been my saving grace when it
comes to grieving is I didn't
start really healing. So I started doing jokes about the experience and then I
started feeling better.
Now I feel my mom on stage with me and it's, it's, it's, I'm just so blessed to
be a comedian,
to be able to have that outlet of expression and, um, you know, and the
audience, sometimes they don't
know how much their labs actually mean to us. And in those moments, you know, I've
been finding that
is that a dog or espresso maker? I hear it aside or is your penis making a
sound?
Uh, your penis has all its own. My penis isn't making that sound. It's actually
somebody outside.
Oh, that don't matter. They're cutting wood. What a lovely place. Now, is this
where they
put you while you're filming this movie? Well, this is why I know they want to
put me somewhere
completely different. I think it was, it had a super and a motel name in it.
And I was like, man,
man, I ain't g
