Theo Von - "Weinstein and Woke"

This Past Weekend
What's up guys? Welcome to This Past Weekend Follow-Up Edition.
It's Thursday and it is October the 19th of 2017, the year 2017.
And I wanted to check in with you guys and talk about and think about really
the Harvey Weinstein situation.
And I know it's a sticky topic. Some topics are stickier than others.
And this one is, you know, this one is, it's extremely hot right now,
especially here in Los Angeles.
It's, you know, there's a lot of dark stories coming out about how Harvey Weinstein,
the mogul producer, used his power to abuse women.
And, and I say that word and that encompasses everything, you know, from rape
to sexual misconduct to, you know, threats, all these accusations that are
against him.
And I don't, I mean, I think at this point everything is just an accusation.
I'm not saying that he didn't do any of these things, you know, where there's
smoke, there's fire for sure.
But there's a lot of very sad accusations and sad stories coming out and, and,
and, and gross stories coming out about the abuse of power.
And about, um, about how, you know, how sick this man is and how he, you know,
took advantage and used his power to, uh, take advantage of women and to make
them feel, um, probably, I can't even imagine how he made them feel.
Because I'm not them, you know, I haven't had that type of experience.
So I can't imagine how that makes somebody feel, but obviously, uh, to take
advantage of them.
And, and there's just a lot coming out now.
Um, David Blaine was just accused of rape today.
Um, the magician, you know, and, and, uh, and you have, uh, Quentin Tarantino
came out today and said he wasn't sure if, you know,
he felt like Harvey was out of line maybe, and I'm paraphrasing, but that
should he have done more?
Could he have done something, you know, should he have spoken up?
You know, there's a lot of people kind of wondering, I think what, and thinking
about, well, did I have a role in this by not saying anything if I knew
something or if I heard something?
Uh, and it shows you just the power that this man had, you know, or that this
Weinstein company has, um,
or had, you know, to control so many people out of fear.
And it shows you that, you know, that money and, and, and greed and, and there's
just a lot wrapped up in this.
There's a lot wrapped up in it.
And it's, it's sad.
And I'm going to talk about this.
I'm going to talk freely about it.
So, you know, if you want to hold me to each and every word, that's your choice.
You know, I'm going to try to my best to navigate just some of my own thoughts,
um, because I'm not trying to be right about any thoughts.
I'm just trying to share, you know, what's a really hot topic right now, uh, in
Los Angeles and in the world.
And you have a lot of the staffers that worked at the Weinstein company over
the years that want to,
you know, be, um, want to make it so their NDAs, their non-disclosure
agreements are nullified.
And I think that's probably so that they can share their stories.
If there are stories that they have, um, there's just a lot surrounding this.
You had a women's gala in Los Angeles this week where a lot of famous actresses
were sharing their stories.
You know, you have the me too hashtag that's going on where women, uh, around
America and around the world are sharing their stories.
There's just, there's a lot, there's a lot here.
You know, there's a lot happening.
There's a lot of people waking, waking up, you know, um, emotionally and
psychologically to the ways that, you know, women are treated.
And a lot of women sharing, you know, and being brave in a lot of instances to
share some of the things that have happened to them.
You know, it's, uh, it's pretty heart-wrenching a lot of it, you know, and, and
of course there are women out there that are probably taking advantage of this
just like anything.
Um, you know, there was, you know, um, but they, I think that that's such a,
that's a minutia, you know.
I mean, there's even going to be, there's even going to be celebrity women in
Hollywood, I'll tell you right now, that are going to, you know, share, you
know, share, you know, get involved, put their foot in just to be a part of,
just to have their name in the, in the, in the trades, you know, and have their
name in the, in the, in the newspapers.
There's going to be that.
But that's such a small thing.
There's so much reality going on here.
And, and it's just sad, you know, it's sad that somebody can have that much
power and that somebody, that so many people, you know, and I've never known
Harvey Weinstein.
I heard of his name.
That was it, you know, and Weinstein's a famous, you know, company here in Los
Angeles.
I'd never heard any, I'd never met them.
I'd never seen, you know, he's not in my circle.
You know, I'm not a movie star.
I'm not a superstar like that.
I'm not, you know, I don't know what some of those worlds are like or those
circles are like.
Now, of course, I can imagine it's like anybody that there's, you know, scary
shit happening out here in Los Angeles, you know, because you have people that
can, that can make your dreams come true.
And then you have thousands of people coming with their dreams.
And that's a, that's a wild power.
Think about that.
I mean, you were almost, you're like the Wizard of Oz in a way.
I mean, you can make somebody's dream for fame come true, right?
And that's a dream that you can't, you know, that's a very specific dream.
If someone dreams to be famous, you know, and I think that's what you have.
You have a lot of people that come out here with that dream.
You know, and it's not even, some of their dreams aren't even to be, to have
their talents shown.
Some of them are just to be famous.
But no matter which one of those two it is, when you encounter someone who can
make that happen for you, you know, it's, and then they use that power against
you, it's, it's, it's just sad.
You know, it's really, really sad.
It's really a sickness that it looks like, it looks like this man got addicted
to.
And, uh, and he just took, took it to the depths of, of, of, of disgust, really.
Um, and I'll share an instance.
I remember even being here, uh, when I first got here and they had an agent.
I had a manager at the time who introduced me to an agent.
And I don't even remember the guy's name, but I remember him taking me out to a
bar, get me some drinks.
And next thing I know, you know, we're driving around and he wants to go, uh,
and he was a gay agent, gay man, who was also an agent.
He wasn't a gay agent.
You know, I don't know if that's, you know what I'm saying.
And he was trying to get me to go get some cocaine and go hang out with him,
you know.
Now, did he have ill intentions?
It felt to me, I got a, I got a twisty vibe, you know, because I'm not trying
to, you know, I'm not trying to catch any cock, you feel me?
I wasn't trying to catch any, you know, man meat.
You know, I was just, you know, only want one penis in my hand that's my own.
But you could sense that this guy's vibe was wild, you know.
I remember another time being over by some dudes, you know, a couple of guys'
house and, you know, um, and they put gay pornography on, you know.
And I don't want to watch, I don't, I don't, I don't want to watch pornography
at all.
But, and, you know, I don't think that they were trying to get me involved in
any kind of stuff, you know.
I mean, they were both into that type of, you know, skin Olympics, if you will.
But, you know, some things make you wonder like, well, what's going on here,
you know, it makes you kind of put your guard up, you know.
And I think in Hollywood that kind of stuff is super prevalent because, you
know, you need so many things when you come here.
You need, or at least you think you do.
You think you need a manager.
You think you need an agent.
Then you think you need to know casting directors.
Then you think you need to know producers.
Then you think you need to know studio heads.
And there's just so many people who can help you get from one place to the next.
So, you know, there's a lot of potential for the dark arts, for people to use
their power for bad, you know, and use that ability to be above someone for bad.
And I think it's interesting because this kind of stuff makes us think.
You know, this kind of stuff makes us think, you know.
I've never been in a position of power like that, you know.
But it makes you think, like, what can happen to people when they have that
kind of power.
And it's sad.
It's sad to hear a lot of stories that men and women are sharing, you know.
And I think you're going to have a lot more men sharing stories, too.
And imagine that, you know.
For a guy, I'm not saying one is harder than the other.
Look, I'm just sharing my feelings here.
But for a guy, like, if you admit as a woman what's occurred, right, or what
happened to you,
or you accuse, you know, someone of doing something to you that was wrong.
You know, and that could be molestation.
That could be rape.
That could be, you know, it could just be, you know, degrading.
And some women, you know, you find, like, like Jennifer Lawrence came out
yesterday and said,
well, you know, somebody said I had to lose 15 pounds for a role.
Like, you know, that's fucking whatever.
You know what, Jennifer Lawrence, that's whatever.
Like, that's Hollywood.
You know, there's still going to be some Hollywood.
You know, some roles aren't for everyone.
You know, there's probably a role, like, you didn't get the precious role.
You know?
Because you were already too thin.
Like, there's going to be, you know, some roles aren't for everybody.
You know, and I felt like that was kind of a trite story to share in the wake
of people, you know, sharing things that are really severe.
But then I don't know if that surprised me about Jennifer Lawrence.
But anyhow, you have, you just have so much power.
And you have so many people that are trying to get their dreams met.
And I think you're also going to have, to get back to what I was saying,
you're going to have men, men are going to, some men are going to come out and
share their stories.
Because there's a lot of that.
I mean, there's a lot of gay men working in Hollywood.
And a lot of men, a lot of dudes, a lot of young, naive men, dudes, bros come
out here.
And, you know, I can't even imagine probably what's happened to some of them.
You know, that they've been caught up in.
And that's going to be heavy.
Because then not only are you sharing a story about something that happened to
you, you know, sexually.
But, it's against your, like even against your, what your sexual practices are.
You know, and I'm not saying that one is worse than the other.
But as a man, you know, it's one thing to say, oh, a woman sexually abused me
or did this or did that.
Or use this to her advantage.
But then to say that a man did it, I think a lot of men, it makes them feel a
certain way.
You know, and I think it's going to be interesting to see if a lot of men come
out and, or if any men come out and talk about that.
I know Terry Crews shared a story.
And maybe they'll inspire more men to do it.
Because that's, that certainly happens a lot here in L.A. as well, in Hollywood.
And I think some of this is going to flood over into other genres of work.
And of, and of, and of life.
And I think things like this, this is horrible.
You know, it's all, it's horrible.
These things that are happening.
Um, but with these things have, having had occurred, I think, I think there can
be good that blossoms out of this over time.
And I do think, and a lot of people, you know, I don't think that you get here.
I also don't, I don't think that this happens.
There's a lot of, especially in Los Angeles, there's so much hate towards, um,
Trump and a lot of, and a lot of middle America and a lot of the South.
And, you know, and I don't think if you have, if you don't have Trump in office,
I don't think that this happens.
I don't think that this expose and thi
