So, everybody is talking about the new Nike campaign, the one with Colin Kaepernick,
a campaign that is worldwide, that millions and millions and millions of
dollars have been spent on to get this message out there.
So, I'm watching this Nike video, and immediately I have this idea that maybe
Nike does believe in something, and that maybe that something is plagiarism.
Or not plagiarism, maybe that's too strong of a word, but borrowing an idea or
stealing a motivational anthem.
I don't know.
I mean, I don't know exactly, and that's why I'm putting this out there to you
guys.
And what I'm talking about is the first 15 seconds of this video.
If people say your dreams are crazy, if they laugh at what you think you can do,
good.
Okay, so you heard the first 15 seconds.
Now I want to play it again one more time.
Listen to this.
If people say your dreams are crazy, if they laugh at what you think you can do,
good.
And I want to know, do you think that, or what are your thoughts if Nike took,
you know, liberties in borrowing from another inspirational video?
One of my direct subordinates, one of my guys that worked for me.
He would call me up or pull me aside with some major problem, some issue that
was going on, and he'd say, boss, we got this and that and the other thing.
And I'd look at him and I'd say, good.
Didn't get the new high-speed gear we wanted?
Good.
Didn't get promoted?
Good.
More time to get better.
Oh, mission got canceled?
Good.
We can focus on another one.
Didn't get funded?
Didn't get the job you wanted?
Got injured?
Sprained my ankle.
Got tapped out?
Good.
Got beat?
Good.
That was Jocko, a retired Navy SEAL, conquistador, gladiator, motivational
speaker, Jocko Willink, who's been on this podcast.
And Jocko doesn't know that I have this thought, and this may be outlandish,
but when I saw the video, the Kaepernick Nike video, that's the first, it just
popped into my head.
Oh, this is Jocko's message.
And I'm going to play them both for you again right now so you can see.
Just one more time.
Here we go.
If people say your dreams are crazy, if they laugh at what you think you can do,
good.
One of my direct subordinates, one of my guys that worked for me, he would call
me up or pull me aside with some major problem, some issue that was going on,
and he'd say, boss, we got this and that and the other thing.
And I'd look at him and I'd say, good.
And I don't have any issues with the video itself.
You know, I like the message.
I love the message.
I'm just wondering if Nike owes some credit to the actual creator of the
message, Jocko Willink.
Anyway, that's all, you know, and I could be out of my mind.
I have been before.
But this popped into my head and this isn't any anti-Kaepernick thing, but this
is, you know, I mean, that is a very specific message.
When you mess up or when a mistake happens or when you can't do something good
because that, I mean, it's just so powerful to be able to immediately in one
second with one word, take a failure.
And say, good, that this is going to be the motivation.
This is going to be, this is going to bring me a new, this is going to inspire
me.
I mean, it's, and you watch Jocko's video.
That video has been everywhere.
And that video should have 60 million views on it.
I mean, you don't think Nike pulled this a little bit from Jocko?
Yeah, man.
So leave your thoughts and your comments below and make sure they're your
thoughts.
You know, I don't want you using somebody else's ideas or somebody else's
thoughts just to make yourself sound good.
