it's this moment right here where I'm supposed to be like hello and then
suddenly everything's not as fun anymore do you like when they do it hello
hello
this is Pete Holmes and I'm Matt Berninger from The National I've been
saying Berninger you have that's wrong it's Berninger your song you were a
kindness has the lyric everything is weird and we're always in danger do you
feel that way now sitting here on the couch no it does feel weird but not
dangerous I'm not afraid of that I didn't flinch you're the coolest man you
get soft hands though I do I've never worked a day so to me the National is
everywhere you guys are huge but I do notice that you guys haven't ever had
like a pop radio smash our fans found us from word-of-mouth and stuff but never
from like I'm having a hit song right on the radio I think I bet you could why
don't we write a pop song together okay well Daft Punk this year won the Grammy
for
best recording record song yeah forget lucky so I'm looking that one up see
what
those lyrics are like she's up all night to get she's up all night to the Sun I'm
up
all night to get some she's up all night good fun for good fun for good fun
this
feels like something you'd read on the back with that jar of Nutella that's why
it
works though oh you're right okay well let's let's it is a great song so let's
write a song like that they're they're talking about being in the club and
having fun so where are we in a club having fun that's why I mess with
perfection we're in a club having fun can that be the first line okay we're in
a
club having fun okay I don't oh I don't hear writing we're in a club having fun
uh give me some rum yeah yum give me some rum can we make it about a three-way
that's good all right I mean don't don't mess with success what other songs are
about three
ways lay lady lay is it yeah yeah if you listen behind behind the lyrics why
would
you say it twice if there wasn't another lay lady like you too fella when you
say
three-way I think of I'm from Cincinnati I think of a chili dish that's chili
over
spaghetti they call it a three-way put some chili on it it's got a devil I'm
calm it's sexual and delicious chili chili on my hot dog is how I play come on
girls Cincinnati three-way no spaghetti and chili then cheese oh okay so throw
some
chili on my getty apostrophe g-h-e-t-t-i that's a getty you know they have
one in Africa that's what they call the Serengeti is mostly pasta three-way
with a
yeti I'm okay I got a three-way with a yeti that's it let's get three let's
have a three-way
with a with a yeti with my yeti you think we're gonna a girl and a yeti
yeah and you think he's abominable it was a funny thing to say afterwards and
she's like complaining we have the verse the first verse now we need a chorus
that's simple to the point a little bit of rot
but still accessible to the tween market I think it's just I'm ready to do I'm
ready
I'm ready I'm ready
no good I didn't like this I didn't like the hold I think it has to be punchy I
mean it's kind of breaking my heart how I'm ready really is a good chorus for a
pop song
I'm ready yeah you know like I can see it like we'll sell it to Chevy I'll be
like the Impala I'm ready
I'm ready
they'll probably take out the the chili dick stuff
yeah
we need another one to the grid we're young and having fun
fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun just say just put down a bunch of funds and
young's
do you mind if I play air guitar when we do this it makes me feel more it makes
me feel better
in the moat yeah yeah yeah yeah do you do that in the booth
I do that a lot when I'm when I'm when I'm writing so maybe I shouldn't really
no no no do it
I don't want to be air piano and it doesn't look right it looks like you're
tickling two babies
hello children Uncle Matt's here
well I'm happy and a little nervous to play for the very first time Matt Berninger
from the National
and me our group which doesn't have a name yet playing our first hit Yeti Yeti

and a three-way with a Yeti get ready

we're young
and having fun
