My next guest is one of the hottest young actors in motion pictures today.
He has been in such films as Class.
He was also in The Outsiders and is one of the stars of the new film,
The Hotel New Hampshire, which members of our staff saw last night,
and they all seem to enjoy it pretty well.
I was driving home by myself.
Mr. Lowe is also on the cover of virtually every teen magazine in existence.
Please welcome Mr. Rob Lowe.
Rob.
I was excited to learn that you and I are neighbors in California.
Yes.
How are things in the neighborhood?
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, David.
Is it pleasant weather when you left?
Yeah, it was great.
I left, came out, and got a cold.
How long have you lived there?
Seven years.
Now, you don't live by yourself.
You have your folks, family with you?
Yeah, I live with my folks.
Do you have brothers and sisters and stuff like that?
Yeah, three brothers and no sisters.
Are the other brothers interested in acting?
Yeah, my oldest, youngest brother just played Bobby Kennedy Jr.
and I knew a miniseries about the Kennedys.
So he's starting off following in my footsteps.
Yeah.
You also have a pretty tight cluster of friends that are working in films
that are really making names for themselves now.
I know just in the area where we live alone.
I mean, there's Sean Penn and his brother Chris and Martin Sheen's two sons.
Yeah.
And my brother and I now, just in like a square mile.
Yeah.
Must be something in the water, as they say.
Yeah, mate.
Now, does this stuff embarrass you?
Excuse me.
Tiger Beat.
I think I will be embarrassed in a minute.
Yes, I am.
Teen Beat.
These are apparently hot rivals.
Tiger Beat and Teen Beat.
But you're in all of them.
Here you are on the cover.
You're mentioned in this one.
Let's see.
Let me open one of these up.
Do you mind?
Or is this just too silly?
Go right ahead.
Go right ahead.
Okay.
This is Tiger Beat.
This one, The Many Loves of Rob Lowe, we have here right on the cover.
Underneath that, we have an article, Robbie, the All-American Menudo.
That, I don't think that is me.
No, no, that's not you, no.
All right.
Let me just read.
Here it is, the article on the inside.
All right.
Melissa Gilbert, Nastassia Kinski, Jodie Foster.
All these names have been linked with Rob Lowe.
Ooh.
David.
Now, is there any truth to that?
Now, you've worked with some of these women, all of these women?
Yeah, most of them.
I work with Melissa.
She's kind of been my girlfriend for the past couple of years.
And, you know, it's tough, you know?
It's, you know, here I am, floundering on late-night television, trying to talk
about my loves.
Well, no, now, if this embarrasses you, I just thought, you know, here you are
on these magazines,
and we'll find out, is there any truth to these things?
Well, I, yeah, there, I, yeah, there's some truth to some of this stuff.
Yeah.
I mean, I guess.
I mean, it's kind of bizarre you pick up these, these magazines and the
articles you read about
it, like Rob Lowe crying on his pillow over you.
I mean, it's really bad, really bad.
It's tough being a kid, isn't it?
Well, it's, it's probably tougher being a late-night TV host.
Oh, don't you know it.
Don't you know it.
Listen, come back and see us another time.
I'm glad we get this stuff straightened out.
I'm, I'm glad that we set the record straight on that day.
All right.
Congratulations on everything that's going on here.
Rob Lowe, folks.
We'll be back with Dick Gregory right after you take a look at this.
Thank you.
Thank you.
