welcome to the show let me begin by apologizing last night for mispronouncing
your name i was
saying kinu or something it's kianu is that correct it's an unusual name i've
not heard it
before is does it mean something in a different language different part of the
world how did you
come by the name um let's see i was told that it means cool breeze over the
mountains wow that's
very nice my great great uncle and it's uh what origin is that hawaiian hawaiian
well it's a
lovely name yeah but i don't know what it means the way you pronounced it oh no
no you know in hawaiian
you know what dave means don't you raised by poodles the true story how you
doing i'm all right i'm all
right what do you want to talk about you want to talk about the uh the motion
picture which by the
way we saw part of it this afternoon unbelievable yeah and people who have seen
it tell me that
it's gripping it's great excitement it is indeed and we're talking about a bus
now out of control
got a bomb on it right got to go 50 miles an hour it explodes exactly yeah i
know it sounds kind of
silly doesn't it well but it's good i mean that's what's good about it i mean
that's why when i opened
up the cover when i first saw the script it said speed and then there was a
bomb on a bus and if it
went under 50 it'll blow up etc etc and it sounded so fantastic that you know i
liked that it was so
completely only in hollywood you know was it was it fun to do that i'm guessing
you spent a great deal of
time on the bus yes indeed yes indeed just about about um six weeks five six
weeks on the bus on the bus
yeah going round and round in circles but it was cool i mean we would drive
through the streets and smash
into cars and were you actually on the bus when it ran into stuff yeah we did a
couple of times that's
not a good idea is it um it was weird because sometimes we would we would set
up these stunts right
and then uh they wouldn't go quite how they were planned so one time this car
um got hit uh spun
around went over a divider and flipped and so everyone in the bus was a little
freaked out because
they didn't tell us that yeah that might be discouraging had they read it in
the script ahead of
time uh now i know you have an injury of some kind i don't know how old the
injury is i think it was a
motorcycle accident so now did the the injury what was it what did you do to
yourself um well this the
one that i think that you're talking about is a uh well pick pick your favorite
injury oh okay
whatever you have well i've i've had some cool crashes i have i mean they're
cool because i'm here
not there you know what i mean but um i don't know this one i crashed in um in
topanga canyon
on a demon los angeles yes yeah and um i had you're on a motorcycle yes i'm
sorry i was on a
motorcycle i was in topanga canyon i was going really fast didn't know the road
and there was a
hairpin turn i hit the mountain i had trauma a couple of uh broken ribs etc and
went to the hospital
and uh they took the blood out and then uh sewed up my spleen sewed up your spleen
sewed up my spleen
well see now that's a mistake because i know if your spleen is damaged it
should come out i know
that's what i thought so so they i'm out of the hospital in five days right
which to me seems short
you know you know you've had the operation i mean they cut you open they take
your guts out
all right all right all right okay and i'm my friends are over and um we're
talking and i hadn't
seen them in a long time and we started to laugh and laugh and i had that
feeling where you know when
you that expression i think i'm gonna laugh to death i had like i had like i
had like it's happened many
nights right here in our studio audience
so i had all these staples i was afraid they were gonna pop out and they were
like what's wrong i'm
like i think the doctor put my guts in wrong you know and uh it turns out they
said well what happened
i told them you know well like he sewed up my spleen and they all said that
yeah but you're okay now
yeah keanu let me ask you a question when you were riding the bike
did you have both hands on the handlebars
ah come on
Thank you.
