Hi, Marco. Nice to see you. How are you? Come on over.
My, oh my. That stuff's very impressive, watching you do that.
What if it's fun doing it?
Yeah, it looks like you're having fun.
I got one thing to say.
Yeah, what's that?
I see Adidas shoes on.
Yeah.
Why?
Well, now, we can't talk about this, because the last time we started talking
about shoes,
there was a huge deal, and they had to run up to the legal department and wake
up the attorneys.
So we can't talk about shoes?
Oh, okay. I thought it was Patrick Ewing. He was wearing Adidas.
Now, I know you got a huge contract with the company. Put your feet down.
Now, how much do you... No, stop that. Now, they won't let any of this on.
Okay.
Now, how much do you get paid just to wear these shoes?
A lot. A whole lot.
A lot. Now, like, is it more than we would guess?
It's about... Some people have guessed already.
So go back and read all the...
Yeah, all right. Well, we'll come back to the shoes and stuff.
Well, congratulations. You just... Is this true? You just graduated from
college?
Well, I have two classes during the summer, but I went through ceremonies. They
let me go through ceremonies.
Well, that's nice. And you finish up as soon as you can?
Five weeks.
Well, what kind of degree did you get?
Geography.
Yeah.
And...
And what are you going to do with this degree?
I travel a whole lot.
You're going to travel, right?
Well, I think that's nice that you're going to finish up, but not that you
would need that degree, but...
Well, my mother wants me to...
Yeah, well, that's nice. That's good.
She has a great influence on me.
Yeah.
And how's your injury? What was it? Your ankle?
I broke my foot.
Broke your foot.
It's doing well.
And what was the deal where they didn't want you to come back?
The Bulls management didn't want you playing, and you came back and played
anyway?
Well, it was just a confusion, in a sense. A lot of people said that I must
have been crazy for coming back, and I stand the risk of re-injuring the foot,
but I love the game, so I had to fight my way back.
Was there anything to the story that they were hoping you'd stay out so they
could have a better shot at the draft lottery by finishing lower in the
division?
I hope not.
I don't know.
Did anybody discuss that at all?
Not to my knowledge. A lot of people ask me, but I had to downplay it. I didn't
know for sure.
No, it wasn't your decision, but you came back and played anyway.
I did.
Now, when you have a game like 63 points after a game where you've had 49
points, are you just beat silly? Are you worn out completely?
I'm tired.
Yeah.
But, yeah, I'm ready for the next game.
You're ready to go.
I'm ready to go.
Playing, what is it, 82 games?
Well, I only played 25. I was hurt. I missed 20 weeks, so I kind of missed out
on a lot.
But I came back in the heat of the playoff race, and we made the playoffs.
Were there any time during the 25 games that you did play that you thought to
yourself, whoa, what am I doing just traveling and running up and down?
Well, when I first came back, we lost five games in a row, and I had to think,
hey, did I do the right thing or not? We're losing.
I'm supposed to come back and help and win, but we're losing. So I need to go
back on injury reserve or something.
And speaking of losing, didn't you lose a coach the last couple of days?
Yeah, we did.
Yeah. Stan Albeck?
I hate to see that happen. It's like I knew him for a little time, but we got
the chance to know each other very well.
But I'm going to miss him next year.
Now, do they know who they're going to bring in yet?
No. You want to? I mean, you can do a good job.
Yeah, that's right. I'll be there. I'll take you.
I'll be there. Let's see. Now, we got all of this stuff. It looks like a
sporting goods company back here.
All of the stuff that this man endorses. Can I read a list of Mr. Jordan's
endorsements?
Have the attorneys gone back to sleep?
McDonald's?
McDonald's. Spokesman for McDonald's?
Yeah.
Coca-Cola, Nike, Wilson Basketballs, Chicagoland Chevrolet.
Chicagoland Chevrolet? You don't look like a Chevy man.
I drive a Chevy.
You don't drive a Chevy. What do you drive?
Blazer. Corvette.
Chevette's next.
Johnson hair care products.
You want some?
Yeah.
You got it on you?
I don't have it in my pocket. I got it backstage.
And is this Guy or Guy LaRouche watches? Guy LaRouche.
Guy LaRouche. Are you wearing a...
Nah.
No, you're not wearing a...
Yeah, I'm wearing a...
I'm wearing a...
Okay. We'll talk about whatever Michael wants to talk about. We've got to do a
commercial,
probably for one of these products, right after...
Right after me.
Okay. Who do you like in the finals this year? Boston is in already.
Who do you think will win it all?
Boston.
You think Boston will?
Yeah.
Now, what about L.A. and Houston? Is that going to happen? Houston's going to...
Houston's going to win.
You think so?
They've got the momentum.
Yeah. Yeah. So that'll be interesting to see.
All right. Now, Michael, is this the shoe...
Now, of course, we can't show what kind of shoe this is.
That's okay. The colors stand for it.
But is this the shoe that the NBA wouldn't let you wear?
Yeah.
Now, why wouldn't they let you wear it? Just because it's ugly, I guess, for
starters.
Hey, I agree with you. They are ugly.
Now, wait a minute. Didn't you help design these?
It's the shoe, not the color.
Oh, not the color.
They have anything to do with the color.
Okay. But what's wrong with the coloring? What rule do we violate here?
Well, it doesn't have any white in it.
Uh-huh.
Well, neither does the NBA.
Now, thank you, Sean. Thank you, Sean.
It's just a joke. It's just a joke. It's just a joke. You know what I mean?
It's just a joke.
And, uh...
Some NBA guys out there.
And, uh, and here we have the, uh, the new improved Air Jordan.
With whiting.
Yeah, with some whiting.
Now, you get, you get a little something for each of these sold, don't you?
Yeah. You're working at it, isn't it?
What a deal. What a deal. You're, uh, Mr. Operator.
Now, here's a basketball. You're on the Wilson Advisory Staff, too.
Wilson Advisory Board.
Now, what do you guys do?
Well, we come up with different types of balls.
Uh-huh.
Uh, some for smaller people, some for bigger people.
Some with big hands, some with small hands.
The Wilson Advisory Board made the decision for big people, a big ball for
small people.
Yeah.
We work harder now.
Uh, my gosh.
Listen, uh, what do you do in the off-season for fun?
Play golf.
Play a lot of golf?
Consistent.
You're a pretty good golfer, aren't you?
Yeah, my pro back at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill.
I cannot say his last name.
I just say Eddie I.
Eddie I.
And, uh, is it true that you were thinking maybe of playing pro golf?
Yeah.
Really?
I quit at the age of 32 and try to get on the PGA Tour.
Boy, that's tough.
That's tough.
But if anybody could do it, I guess you could.
Well, I had to.
I mean, I gotta go out and earn some money first because you lose a lot on the
golf.
Yeah.
Now, you're 23 now?
23.
So you play, like, nine more years and then you're gonna switch to golf?
Well, geez, that's, uh, good luck.
Nice to meet you, Michael.
Hope you have a great year next year.
Thanks for coming by.
Michael Jordan, folks.
We'll be right back.
Okay, folks, we're done here.
My thanks to Michael Jordan.
Michael, nice to meet you.
Come back anytime, as always, sir.
And, uh, also to Lou Reed and Alan Alda.
Tomorrow on the program, Molly Ringwald, Danny Sullivan, and, uh, who else?
Oh, Emo Phillips.
Have a nice night, folks.
Good night.
