how are you good how are you good welcome to the program thank you i i let me
let me just
check this you you are you are ashley ashley and you're mary kate yes yeah how
about that
this is uh this is an amazing story because i know that you're both the 17.
right now what kind
of twins are you how many kinds of twins are there i have we're fraternal twins
fraternal twins and
the other kind would be identical identical when you're i think identical to
come from the same egg
and fraternal i think yeah i never understood that myself uh but the important
thing is you're both
here we're both that's right um and then you started like i said when you're
nine months old
isn't that crazy does that seem crazy to you now that it all began when you
were just infants really
yeah especially you know our our parents really didn't we never been on any
other audition before
it was just for full house and um it was just kind of random that we actually
even went on the full
house audition right and did your folks want you to be on a television show or
it just was an accident or
what happened our mom's friend took us in and we didn't cry when they held us
and that's why they
picked us really yeah now did your mom know that the the friend was taking you
kids in for the audition
or well she came with us but it was just it was one of those things where um
you know she didn't really
care she didn't really want it and you know we're really lucky that we never
had those types of parents
uh and so in in the beginning for some reason i guess national security they
they they didn't want
people to know that the uh part michelle right was played by two people
seriously we we never we never
heard that before never on the show someone said yeah no one they didn't want
you to know there's two
of them and i had no clue i mean but we did have we had teeth problems i mean
like because you'd lose a
tooth and then i always lost my teeth after ashley but we were playing the same
person so we were in
the we were always at the dentist getting fake teeth and it is at a certain
point and i understand
because the the part the nine-month-old there's rules about working a kid like
18 20 hours a day
when a nine-month-old right yeah even now we can only work 10 and a half hours
until we're 18. is
that right yeah i was not aware of that but you had to continue to do uh but
two of you were doing
one part as the child got older is that right that's what they do yeah on most
shows sometimes
they even get triplets or whatever because they can only work i don't even know
but it gets you
know the long the hours get longer we have the same problem with paul
i'll catch you okay fine and and so so now this was the the show with uh bob
saget we have the
picture of it right here are you guys still in touch with any of these folks on
the show yes we
are we're very close they actually most of them came to the premiere for the
movie that was very
nice so you're still in touch with these people because they're literally these
are the folks you
grew up with this is like your family right here it really is yeah and was that
a good experience
overall now when when you get married and have kids of your own would you want
them to go through
that uh the same situation you mean living wait being nine months old and
having a tv show
i don't understand the question are you saying no like being on a show growing
up oh it was for i
would never take my child probably on and on in on in on in addition on on all
right let me try
to get maybe i i i'm a little confused myself when you when you guys were nine
months old right you
were on a television show and it worked out and and here is your television
family right so you're
saying would we ever take our kids on on an audition for the same experience
right was was in your mind
that experience uh positive enough that you might consider doing the same when
you get married and
have children of your own would you give them to a tv show probably not
probably not unless they had an
amazing experience and we know that we were very lucky because you know most of
the tv you don't know
of a lot of people who are still you know in contact after you know show that
you don't hear a lot of
really good stories you know about the kids who come off of the well that's
that's the other thing and
i think that's to your credit and probably to the credit of your parents
because uh a lot of the tv
stars that come and go and they're just gone kids stars are the most of them
are in prison really
and because something something goes haywire but but now when when the uh when
the full house show
goes away i then you began the second part of your career there was two more tv
shows and then
these these movies now now who figured all of that out for you guys because at
that point you were
eight nine years old who decided that was going to happen um i guess it was a
mix between my dad and
our parents and robert thorne who um was brought in when we were younger
probably i think six years old or so
and you made how many movies prior to this one oh see straight to video yeah um
20 something 20 20.
you've made 20 movies i think something like that that's unbelievable isn't it
so so you guys really
have just been working night and day and on and on haven't you yeah but at the
same time you know we've
had you know the regular experience as we've you know gone to school our entire
life and that's always
been a number one priority and what is that experience like when you go to
school and oh there's mary kate
and ashley and it's kind of like that oh there's mary kate and ashley i mean
everyone's kind of used to it
and and so so now uh well you're both like uh nearly 18 right is that right
when is the birthday
june 13th june 13th now when you become 18 will you then take over your your
destiny in show business
or will that continue to be handled by your folks and your friends i mean i
think i mean as we got
older we've we've we've always you know known that no is a full sentence and
you know we would say
that again no is a full sentence how do you apply that what does that mean
exactly no as a full that
means that you know if you're younger and you don't want to work you say no
yeah yeah yeah and have you
done that many times in your life yeah so as you have to get older you have
control over you know the
sort of things that you want to do and i think that's you know as we've gotten
older we've definitely
had control of everything that we've wanted to do yeah uh and and you seem
remarkably uh poised and
composed and uh just sort of in control of yourselves and you're only 17
because you know when i when i was
17 i couldn't make a fist honestly but so now now when you when you're when you're
18 and you'll you'll be
uh of legal age and and worldly young women in show business are you looking
forward to that or are you
just going to go nuts then i'm going to go crazy yeah no going to jail yeah we're
going to jail
it's a remarkable story because among other things you've accrued a fortune
close to a billion
dollars is that about right you together you're worth nearly a billion bucks
really i didn't know that
i did a little research and you guys are all right you're doing okay you can
take a day off now and
then if you want but now when i was uh going on and on about this uh olsen
twins thing is did that
happen you're no longer twins you this is the funniest thing i mean this is
probably the question
we've ever we've been asked this question so much lately it was some silly
thing that came out for
premiere magazine and it was a press release probably 10 years ago is that
right yeah 10 years ago and
they just got a hold of it and you know something to talk about you still are
the olsen twins or you
are not the olsen twins well we are twins yes actually we're not wait a minute
we're not twins anymore
no you're not twins anymore no we have different mothers actually no i you know
i mean it's just
nice to be known by your name i guess yeah you can call us olsen twins i mean
it's not it's not we
don't get offended at all it's not mary kate and ashley right we don't get
offended at all it's just
something that people are having fun talking about do you have other brothers
and sisters yes any more
twins anything like that no are you in one of those twins club where you go to
conventions and hang around
other people that'd be so creepy if you've been asked that before it is kind of
creepy isn't it yeah
uh might be fun though um and what about the prom will you go to the prom no
actually missing it this
year really and why are you missing it um snl next week oh you're hosting snl
yeah well now see
this is not interesting because a lot of high school kids don't get to host snl
that's what we figured
so we're going to host snl instead yeah wow well that's very exciting yeah it
is very exciting i'm
very nervous yeah uh well it'll be a good time i think you'll enjoy yourself
now tell people about
the new york minute because it opens here on friday go see it friday yeah and
go see it and it has some
kind of a story right yes it's uh well not really no it's um an action comedy
that takes place
uh in a single day in new york and everything that can go wrong goes wrong it
has a good cast
in it great cast yeah we're very excited we got eugene levy right andy richter
andy richter daryl
hammond um riley smith gerard padalecki uh who else just a great i mean amazing
cast that's right and
one of you is goes nuts and is a bad girl and the other one is not nuts and is
a good girl is that
right yeah well she's a little my character's a little nuts a little nuts okay
ashley it's a pleasure
meeting you thank you very much thank you so much nice to meet you i hope you
come back and good luck
with the movie and anything you'd like to ask me are you going to go see the
movie you mean see it again
see it again good well enjoy it thank you have fun nice out of here
