okay thank you folks we're uh gonna spend some time this evening visiting with
members of our
studio audience it's a little thing we like to call brush with greatness let's
begin who has
the first story tonight to kick things off uh mark berger is that you mark hi
nice to see you thanks
for standing up when your name was called that shows resourcefulness you know
where are you from
mark west nyack new york west nyack new york is that a hot bed of arena
football uh tell me what
do you do for a living mark i'm a student at clarkstown south high school clarkstown
south
high school what year are you there i'm a junior so you're really not old
enough to be in there are
you mark i am
uh oh this is a fair fairly current brush with greatness isn't it yes all right
tell us all
about it mark well i was at a concert a steve winwood concert and i was waiting
backstage with my brother
for just like hanging out cleaning up some stuff and steve winwood came walking
out you look like that
kind of guy by the way you'd see hanging around a concert cleaning stuff up so
steve winwood came
walking out with his bodyguard and i came and walked up to him and i asked him
for his
autograph and he said sure and i was talking for a couple minutes and so he
signed my shirt
and as he's walking away he handed me his heineken oh his beer yeah oh that's
great
uh but there's more to this story mark there's something you haven't told us
yet yes there is
finish it up for us if you will taking a closer look at the beer i noticed it
was almost finished
and about 90 saliva i was repulsed but then realized it was a spittle of a rock
star and chugged it
and then i was like to say thank you very much have a good summer okay
is uh there a missy lancaster here missy lancaster hi missy how are you nice to
see
you thank you very much for being here where are you from austin texas austin
texas nice town austin
yeah it's beautiful what's the population um at least eight million i'd say
so so so austin is roughly the size of tokyo and mexico city combined
wow wow wow uh all right missy what do you uh what do you do there uh in austin
runner for a law
firm okay and uh you're just spending a few days here in new york as a vacation
oh good nice to have
you with us now tell me about your brush with greatness well when i was about
15 years old at
the legends of golf in austin bob hope ran over my foot with a golf cart he was
driving the golf cart
real fast yeah ran right over it right over my left did he apologize or
anything no he took off
didn't even bother to apologize or anything kept on rolling all right now is
there more to this
story that we should know missy that you haven't told us so far yeah all right
go right ahead and
fill us in on the details moments later an announcement came over the pa system
country club safe had
been emptied but it was too late the ageless comedian in front of nine
presidents was already across
the state line so he stole he broke in and stole okay missy we have some uh oh
more paper for
yeah thank you very much nice to meet you one more one minute okay
i just i just didn't i knew austin was a growth city i i had no idea that there
was eight million
people there uh uh jim uh muthers ball is there a mr muthers ball with us hi jim
nice to have you here
am i pronouncing your name properly close enough all right it is jim then okay
uh where are you from
jim fairfield connecticut okay tell us about your encounter well i was in westport
connecticut one day
about six months ago and i was in the drugstore and uh buying a candy bar and
then came paul newman
and he was buying himself a pack of gum and uh put the money out but he was
about five cents short
so i reached my pocket and i loaned him a nickel for him that was very
thoughtful of you thank you
what is what is westport now that's about two million isn't it yeah we're
growing them
we're growing um
uh but there's more to the story with you and paul right okay jim tell us the
rest of this later out
behind the drugstore i spied mr newman searching through a dumpster for deposit
bottles
then i realized the blue-eyed actor blue-eyed actor was down to his last scent
out of pity i took him
back to my home where he cleaned out the gutters in exchange for a crisp dollar
bill that's very
nice of you jim nice meeting you thank you very much here's your bundle of
newspapers uh we'll be right
