okay here we go now our first guest is a funny and talented uh woman starring
in a new film
entitled baby mama it opens april 25th here's the lovely amy poehler ladies and
gentlemen you look
great thank you very much beautiful you know paul by the way yes hi amy hi paul
we were in the
picket line together yes we were so you go way back you're already yeah we had
a lot of good
times oh you look tremendous too by the way did i say that oh thank you so very
much i tried to
clean up my act tonight oh what about spring in new york city is great isn't it
great weather so
exciting and you know um i love the thing i love about new york is spring is
window washing season
for a lot of people that don't know i guess that's right it makes perfect sense
and i live in a high
rise in new york city and recently um i was working on snl and we have kind of
a hard you know hard
hours late hours so every once in a while i have to take a little half a
sleeping pill maybe to go to
bed or to do an interview and um you know whatever it takes sure i understand
whatever it takes but we
all we all have our we all have our ways and so um recently i took i took my
sleeping pill took a
shower kind of stumbled out of the shower and fell right on the top of my
covers naked went to sleep
wow i know what you're thinking so no no you don't know what i'm thinking what
do you what do you think
i'm thinking well it's a window washing oh yeah no i wasn't thinking of that
yeah so um i fell asleep
the blinds were down in my apartment and the lights were out and my husband uh
is really excited about
our blinds are those kind of fancy automated things that go up real slow you
know what i mean you push
a button and it's really great yeah um and wait a minute when did they go up
slow well the cool thing is
is he hooked it up to our alarm clock so when the alarm clock goes off the
lights and the blinds go up
real slow to wake you up gently this guy's a genius yeah wow yeah to the alarm
like the clock radio and
then i'm married to my super yeah he's great he's great he's real handy so he
hooked it up to the alarm
clock but um it goes up so slow often uh that i don't wake up imperceptible it's
too gentle and
i again i was on about a half a sleeping pill so um the blinds went up slowly i
woke up two hours later
to find that the window washers had been outside my window for like two hours
and they just they they were treated to a really boring slow peep show with an
unconscious woman
uh and we made eye contact when i woke up and uh the gentleman i don't think
was a fan of my work
or my works then how uh how did we uh call an end to this uh we just kind of
politely waved
and then i put the blankets over my head and i laughed for like 20 seconds i
like that story
uh and you're uh did you grow up in boston yes is that where you were born i
was born there yes
yeah and i thank you and um uh burlington was a great place i didn't act a lot
when i was there but
i did um do some school plays and stuff there's not i guess maybe then or i don't
know are there a lot
of opportunities to act in boston well yeah i'm sure there are i don't i didn't
know of any of them
at the time i think i i knew like ice cream you know restaurant opportunities
at the time but
i was in in a fourth grade production of the wizard of oz which if you if you're
not familiar with the
play great parts for women uh-huh really really some juicy parts and um i was
playing dorothy and this
is the first time i kind of got the bug or thought that i wanted to to improvise
because um there's
a scene in um in the wizard of oz where there's a tornado happening and dorothy
is uh uh looking for
toto she says toto toto where are you well in the play i was holding a dog and
so on the first night
i said toto toto where are you but i was holding the dog that's a that's a
mistake isn't it yeah
i've got a laugh but the wrong kind yeah you know um and so the second night i
learned if i just take
the dog put it down and then say toto toto where are you and then pick it back
up um i win yeah
it's about winning right that was it that was the moment you knew you had
something going on
yeah uh what is your connection if there is one to to sweden do you have yes my
brother lives in
stockholm oh he lives in stockholm he married a swedish girl and that's what it
is and i don't
know have you ever been to stockholm oh it's lovely unbelievable it's beautiful
and it is filled with
the most beautiful people i mean a a two in sweden is a nine in england yeah
really sorry it's true
right and um and the swedes are very direct they uh they don't have they don't
use a lot of words they
have actually i think about a quarter or a half of as many words as we do so
they like to kind of tell
it to you straight and um a a moment that i enjoyed is my brother's wedding in
sweden um some relatives
got up to to speak about the couple and um one relative got up and said my
brother's name is greg
and she got up and said when we met greg we did not like him that was her that
was her opener
and and you attribute that to the language yes well and we were kind of
laughing and the rest of them
were like we are being direct why are you upset we're leaving time for more
drinking please
wow and is his wife stunningly beautiful oh yeah gorgeous and what did he do in
sweden he um he used
to be a lawyer here in new york and now he he teaches um american law in in sweden
wow pretty good deal
speaks the language and it's a really really difficult language to learn and it's
a beautiful
language good uh now when you when you have uh of course now we're talking
about the campaign
and you have uh hillary clinton on and you have you've had everybody on yeah we've
had all the
politicians and and you you do them and is it uh i mean it's one thing to do
somebody on the show when
they're not around but to do them on the show when they're right there that
must be extra pressure
it's very weird to talk to someone when you're dressed as them
it's very off-putting i don't know if that's ever happened no it's never
happened in my life
actually yeah i bet that would be weird though it would be it is very weird and
you know we've had
a lot of politicians come through and um you know they're they're politicians
for a reason because
they're great at remembering your name dave yeah and uh yeah let's show these
pictures
well now that we're chatting about this well that's my favorite this might be
my favorite i hope kucinich
makes a comeback because that's me that's kristen wig uh and uh that's me i'm
wearing a tiny suit
and little ears and he has a a lovely he has a lovely let's say a hot wife a
hot wife yeah
and uh yeah and that was the scene where he was really excited about his hot
wife
now this this is exactly what we're talking about right there yeah right right
next to each other
yeah i think the joke there was that um she let me borrow her earrings for the
sketch uh-huh
and then what do you what do you talk about when you're uh you know between
rehearsals or visits
oh we just trade dirty jokes you know see again i would not have guessed that
uh and now the the film a baby mama explain this to me it's it's about a surrogate
pregnancy yes
it's a comedy that tina faye and i are in and uh she uh is a career woman who
can't have a baby and so
she hires a surrogate played by me kind of a blue collar philly girl to have
her baby for
right and um we're very different and we have to kind of move in together and
figure out how to
create this thing together and do you have children yourself i don't know and
it was it was fun
insights here about pregnancy from the film yeah it was it was really
interesting to shoot in new york
and a lot of the scenes there were birthing coaches and like because there were
a lot of babies on
set and we did one scene where um uh we were doing um like birthing yoga and
there was a woman there
kind of making sure that the pregnant the real pregnant women were comfortable
and i overheard
a great moment where the woman was kind of quietly talking to a couple and and
saying you know there's
very easy ways to gently make love during the ninth month of pregnancy and i
saw the guy and he was
just like i looked over at the woman and she was like are you kidding me who
are you talking to
nice try oh yeah yeah yikes yeah um so the film opens april 25th let's take a
look at a little bit
of this and what are we going to see here this is a moment and and i'm living
with uh tina's character
and she's trying to uh get me to take a prenatal vitamin prenatal vitamin yeah
and they're they're
quite large okay so so getting this straight now you're actually having i'm
here i'm having yes i'm
having tina's character's baby and not tina faye's real baby right but in the
film yeah in the film
you're doing the heavy lifting i'm doing the heavy lifting that's yeah well put
steve steve martin
is also yeah and he he's i mean i'm of course a fan how can you not and he uh i
i think i embarrassed
myself because he would just say anything and i would laugh really hard so uh
because he's kind
of a serious guy right yeah person so he would say uh yeah do we break for
lunch and i'd be like you
guys come here steve's doing a bit about lunch he's doing a bit no he's not
doing a bit he's doing a bit
about lunch that's exactly what he's doing uh amy puller nice to see you again
amy great job thank
you welcome right back with jason siegel everybody
