Oh, you know what we're going to do tonight? This is fun. We get such wonderful
studio audiences that from time to time we just throw the proceedings open to
them and anything they would like to see here in the studio that we can
possibly arrange, we'll do it for them. We call this, what do we call it? Who
asked for it? It's kind of like who asked for it, whoever wants it gets it and
that kind of thing. We have some participants up there in the audience tonight.
If you're ready, just come on down to the microphone is our first. Oh, it's a
lovely young woman coming to the microphone and we'll get to this in just a
second. Yes, ma'am.
Yeah, you having trouble with the microphone? Hard to believe you're having
trouble with that microphone. It's just a, fine. Kind of a sensitive instrument,
isn't it? Yes, ma'am, what is your name, please? Christina Smith. Christina
Smith? Where are you from, Christina? Pasadena. Pasadena, California? Oh, you
know, I lived in California for quite a while. And what do you do in Pasadena?
I'm a student. Where do you go to school there? I'm not a student in Pasadena,
I'm a student in Stanford University.
Stanford University. So that's where, up north near San Francisco? Sort of.
Yeah. Did you get to the Rose Parade last year?
Yeah, as a matter of fact, I did. Do you enjoy that every year? Oh, definitely.
Yeah, all right. All right.
All right, Christina, your papers seem to be in order. Let's continue.
What can we do for you tonight? Well, Dave, one of the things I love most about
talk shows is seeing
movie clips. Is there a possibility we could see a clip from this summer's
smash hit science fiction,
Aliens? Oh, good idea. You know, we do have clips on the program all the time,
and I'm glad you brought
this up, Christina. We do have a couple of minutes, and this movie, I
understand, is wonderful, this
Aliens. Let's show them a clip from Aliens, Hal, if you can roll that, because
we've got it standing by.
It's really, really exciting. Watch carefully. Here it is.
I'm sorry, Christina, some kind of a mix-up. That's obviously Paul eating
breakfast. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. Good luck in Stanford there, California. Clip is now like a very hot
running item on this
show, isn't it? Yes, it is. Running gag, one of those crazy running gags that
kids can relate to.
That's right, Paul. Who's next? Yes, sir, what can I do for you? Dave, I'm
curious. I'd like to know
how the audience looks from where you sit. What is your name, sir? Daniel Zitin.
I'm sorry, what was the last name? It's Zitin. It's Z-I-T-I-N. Zitna.
Zitin. Okay, and what's the origin of that name, Dan? It's Armenian. There used
to be a sort of
suffix, but it's shortened, so people can pronounce it. I'm sure there was. All
right. And what can I do for you,
Daniel? Well, I'd just like to know how the audience looks from where you sit.
Oh, good question. You know, I'm sorry. I can't invite you to come down here
and look
at the audience, but maybe we can work this out. Look at the monitors, and you'll
get an
idea of what it looks like when I look up there at you. If you can just, okay,
now.
Oh. Well, that's interesting. Thanks, Dave.
That's what it looks like. Thank you. Thanks, Dave. Very interesting. Thank you.
Yes, sir. What can I do for you?
Dave, I have some serious problems. Yeah.
I'm trapped in a loveless marriage, and I recently met a woman that I really
care for.
Yeah. And what's worse, I just found out that I have less than a year to live.
Hmm. Should I go on living a lie, or should I go after the only happiness I
might ever know?
Huh. You have less than a year to live, and you thought you'd spend one of
those days at a TV show?
Um. Gee, you know, I'm afraid there's not really much I can do for you. Let me
ask you this question,
though. Have you ever had any trouble with the grease fires in the kitchen?
Yeah, I have, actually.
Oh, okay. Well, do me a favor, then. Watch this. I think this will help. Take a
look here, sir.
Broilers are a frequent source of fire. They're caused by hot fats spattering
from the meat to the flame. Drops of water in the fat or meat turn quickly to
steam and seem to explode. Some broiler fires can be extinguished by turning
off the gas and closing the broiler door. If it doesn't work, try the baking
soda again.
There. That does it. In all cases, if there's the slightest difficulty in
putting out a fire, call the fire department at once.
Thanks, David. I feel a lot better. Thank you.
You feel better?
Yes, ma'am. What is your name, please?
Hi, my name is Marsha Murphy.
Marsha, nice to have you here. Where are you from?
I'm from Boston, Massachusetts.
Oh, beautiful town, Boston.
You live up there? You work up there? You go to school up there?
I work up there.
You work up there? What line of work are you in?
I work in a health club.
In a health club. Oh, that's good. You seem like you're probably a very healthy
person.
Well, thank you.
And what can I do for you tonight, Marsha?
Well, I waited over a year for tickets to the show as well.
I know. We've heard this, Marsha.
And I'm really excited about being here, and I was wondering if I could have
some kind of souvenir.
Sure. You know what we have? We have these lovable, collapsible late-night
drinking cups.
See, look. Just like that.
And it has the name of the show right on top.
We'll give you a couple of these.
Well, to tell you the truth, I was really hoping for something a little more,
if I could.
Something a little more substantial.
Yeah, that's what I had, Marsha.
Let's see. What the heck?
How are you getting back to Boston, Marsha?
Uh, bus.
Bus. Oh, here we go.
This ought to do it.
Excuse me one second.
There.
There you go.
I hope you enjoy that.
Thank you very much.
Good luck to you.
Thank you.
Okay, I think we have time.
We have time here for just one more.
Yes, sir, what's your name?
Uh, it's Art Dickerson.
Art?
Uh, Art, are you all right?
Well, actually, Dave, I'm really warm.
You think there's any way that you could get somebody to turn up the air
conditioning?
You know, uh, there's nothing we can do, Art.
I'm sorry.
We've had this trouble all week long.
I'm really uncomfortable.
Uh, it's really hot in here.
I know.
I'm sorry.
We looked into it.
And the air conditioning is up as high as it'll go.
Uh, just, why don't you just have a seat?
Well.
Art, Art, do me a favor.
Just sit down.
Oh, maybe loosen your tie.
Maybe that'll help.
Okay.
All right.
Just, just have a seat.
Okay.
Thanks, anyway, Dave.
Yes, sir.
Good luck to you.
Art, Art Dickerson.
That's Art Dickerson.
He's a little too hot.
Well, we got a keen show.
It'll begin moments from now.
Please come back.
We have, uh, Tom Savini, Paul Sorvino, and Rita Marley is here tonight.
Thanks, folks.
