uh our next guest is a uh talented singer and actress who stars in the movie
dream girls latest
gentlemen here's jennifer hudson nice to see you again nice to see you again
well this has turned
out pretty well hasn't it this this movie is just a tremendous event and uh
what what talented uh
people in the movie it's not like you're in there with beginners oh you you are
a beginner yes oh my
gosh this is my first acting yeah now what did you did you who did you know how
to act no i actually
started out on the disney wonder cruise ship that is the only acting experience
yep and were they were
they worried about you acting in the film you know what i would have been but
everybody was very
patient very kind and very supportive and they just were there to help me
through it now you were on
that to show that american idol is that right but you you were not the big
grand champion no i was
seventh place seventh place wow how about that yeah yeah how about that america
was wrong america
clearly was wrong yeah yeah yeah and then they they put you in this movie which
is a wonderful uh story
and uh incredibly talented people and you come in and you steal the whole movie
now how does that make
you feel your first your first time out you're not even the big winner on
american idol and you steal
the whole movie you know what thank you yeah you're quite welcome it feels good
to get a second chance
alone you know because it's not every day i never would have guessed i'll be
sitting here talking to you
and who have you heard from uh about this since the film has been out now do
you hear from a lot of people
you didn't know before oh my god yes i've heard from whitney houston to oprah
to oh god some of
everybody it never fails it's just amazing to see the support yeah and the
reaction that it's receiving
right yeah and now you're just a kid uh what what do you hope to do after this
film
well i hope to continue acting and singing both yeah yes and sitting back here
on this couch
now when you're when you're doing a uh i haven't done many musicals but when
you're doing a film
uh is it is it is it harder to sing in a film than it would be just say in in a
on a theater stage or on a television program oh it's very different you have
to do it over and over
again yeah you have to do it over and over again and from every angle and then
it's it's a to me
it's a different language from theater i've only done very little theater what
was that what happened
that's my bracelet hold it hold it wow i thought we're gonna do it and she also
does magic
she got out of these handcuffs
now tell me about your uh family your family just crazy excited yes everybody
is excited half the
time they don't know what's going on so sometimes i don't even bother to
explain just like like my
mother she found out i was nominated for the golden globe and i was like mom i
just got nominated for
a golden globe and she was like oh yeah you got nominated for good now baby
wait what what exactly
is the golden globes that's all right she's just excited because she knows that
things are going
great yeah and and where is home now home in chicago it still is and i'm going
to spend a lot of time
there no not much yeah but when you go back there now it's going to be crazy
crazier than it was it
must have been crazy when the show was on the air right yeah even on idol i
would go downtown and
i remember somebody stopped me in the middle of the street like jennifer could
i have a hug i'm like
yeah if we could get out the middle of the street i'll give you anything you
know yeah i can go for
a hug myself all right um i don't know you might not how about these guys uh
jamie foxx and uh eddie
murphy in the film what were they were they fun to be around oh goodness yes
but eddie's very quiet and
then there's jamie if you didn't see him you heard his mouth somewhere across
the room really because he
had the microphone somewhere entertaining or playing the piano singing doing
something but a lot of fun
must be just crazy fun a dream this is an exciting i'm very excited for you in
in your life to have
this right now it's a wonderful wonderful thing thank you uh let's show people
a uh a clip from the dream
girls what would you know we're going to see i think we're going to see when is
it when effie's put in
the background i believe yes you're being told that you're no longer the lead
no longer the lead singer
yeah and now do you know that this is all more or less based on uh true stories
this is biographical
somewhat of the supremes diana ross and so forth and barry gordy did you did
you have that in the
back of your mind when you were doing it did you know about the supremes when
you were a kid well i
mean of course yes i always listen to their music because that's what i love
the old school music
and also we did our research you know preparing for the film and we read books
and watched footage and
different things of the multi-era in itself yeah yeah okay there you go thank
you
is that all right yeah
thank you about it well paul saw the movie a couple of days ago and was knocked
out by it i saw it a
couple of weeks ago she was phenomenal we're both of us yeah yeah it's just one
of those things where
you're just so happy to have that in a movie you can't believe it's there and
congrats i'm so happy
it's you as a matter of fact thank you so much and you're going to come back a
little bit later and
sing for us here all right we'll be back uh later and now ladies and gentlemen
performing a song
