our next guest is the uh head writer and a weekend update co-anchor over at the
saturday night live
program please welcome the very funny seth meyers welcome to the program good
to be here good to
have you here things going well for you and uh uh you're from uh new hampshire
i am from uh new
hampshire that's right yeah when did you move to new york i moved to new york
uh 2001. and you do
obviously your family back there and you've been back there i go back all the
time i i uh i have a
nice situation where you know small town and i feel like uh i should at this
point be a bit of a
local celeb yeah but my mother happens to be an incredibly popular french
teacher she's been
teaching french for about 20 years so i'll be back in my hometown i'll be in
the supermarket i'll see
some kids eyes light up walk over to me i think it's time for me to sign an
autograph and he's like
please say hello to madame myers and they always use their french name they're
like say uh jean claude
nelson says hello so it says super burn on me yeah i understand and uh you see
your mother is of 20
years a french teacher yes as a as a kid did you the whole family ever go to france
or that doesn't
happen uh you know no we did go i we my brother and i both had her as a teacher
oh neither of us got
very good at speaking french because uh you know if it was a regular lady she
would have been opening a
whole new world for us but when it's your mom it's like just cleaning up your
room so just don't listen
yeah yeah um but we did all go to france and uh it was great because my brother
and i kept trying to
put my mom on the spot because she was the only one who spoke french and we're
like oh it's really
easy in a room full of 12 year olds that don't do their homework to be the one
that speaks french but
here in france so we'd be like hey go ask those people how politics here works
you know
dear mom yeah uh i'm sorry mom you're yeah and speaking of of uh politics and a
great deal of
discussion about the the candidates and so forth and saturday night live and it
it poses a challenging
puzzle for you as the head writer and also the weekend update it was great we've
had a lot of
politicians in uh in recent weeks we had uh we had senator clinton on which was
really exciting um i
actually had to go down to her dressing room and uh pitch a few jokes to her
and it's really a tough
room because it's her and a bunch of secret service agents oh oh yeah i never
thought of that yeah it's
the toughest crowd you can have although i guess the worst thing you could say
about your secret
service agents would be they had a great sense of humor yes wouldn't want to be
you don't want
them always yeah yeah you got to meet these guys always pranks always pranks uh
and uh the the you
have some time off now you everybody was on strike yeah and you uh you picketed
every time you were
scheduled to pick i did i picketed every day congratulations thank you it was
uh thank you very much
it was really my way of saying um which is really important to me it was my way
of saying i have
nothing better to do i have uh well said a huge gap in my life where i should
be more social and and
now you're uh off again for a little bit now what do you do now that you don't
have to well i have a
goal in these two weeks which is um i am not right now i do not have a driver's
license right now oh no
that's that can't that's crazy no that can't be true it's uh it's true because
have you looked uh i have
trust me the worst thing about not having a driver's license i have to carry my
passport around
as identification and you realize the only people that do that that aren't
traveling internationally
are like assassins like me and jason bourne are the people that have yeah when
you take it out
at a bar they're like look we don't want trouble if you've got to carry a
passport around we'd rather
not have you at our bar but no uh here well here's what happened was yeah what
did happen well i all right
i know i should have gotten a new york driver's license so i moved here but i
kept my new hampshire license and my
birthday is right around christmas so i'm home and i would just go to the dmv
and get it renewed
so the last time i was there uh once again here's another story uh example of
pride uh kind of thing
before the uh fall which is i'm filling out the form and the last question was
are you a resident of
new hampshire and i was like what if the guy at the dmv recognizes me i am a
huge star
so if that happened yeah he would go look man you're a huge new york star you
clearly don't live
here so i'm like well i'm not going to get caught in that awkward situation so
i'll mark no i'm not
a resident so i wait in line really you denounced your statehood of affiliation
that's not the bad
thing the bad thing was i denounced it at the dmv so i wait in line for two
hours and i get up and
i hand the guy the thing he literally first thing he did is check he goes you're
not a resident you can't
get a driver's license and i said well why do you even have that question there
if you won't give
somebody a driver's license and he he said well to stop people like you from
getting driver's license
i was like well you worry then he was like say hello to your mother for me yeah
exactly
i'm pierre you're better off with the passport yeah uh seth meyers saturday
night live and you're
back in production a couple of weeks from now two weeks from now yeah good to
meet you thank you for
for being here seth seth meyers everybody
