our first guest is a talented actor he's starring in a new film I've seen this
thing this is a great piece of work it's called hearts war it opened today
ladies and gentlemen say hello to Colin Farrell Colin how are you man good nice
to meet you you too long time no see yeah back in the day when do we see each
other before yeah Ireland 54 oh no you got me mixed up with another Dave
Letterman why don't you tell us about yourself oh my god what that brings back
memories of my first trip to Los Angeles yeah yeah hey why don't you tell us
about
yourself I went over to Los Angeles three years ago and that was the popular
question and I used to go I used to go oh well my name is Colin and I'm from
Dublin and I drink Carlsberg and they go great Irish so good but it worked out
it
worked out I mean it worked out I've been very lucky I guess it yeah I am from
Dublin I do drink Carlsberg my name is Colin all right I did touch your hand
did
twice you I I don't know does is Ireland participating I think they're
participating in the Winter Olympics I don't think they have a big delegation I
think it's a small team I was only told it's six or seven by your boy
math do you know they were constantly speaking my boy yeah it seems to be a
homosexual theme going on tonight that I speak for you so have you followed the
Irish team no I haven't I've been to just busy man just working away I haven't
even I haven't watched it about me brother and sister up in Toronto with me I
see and they're watching a good bit me brother especially he's into it but I
haven't did you even know the events they compete in the Irish team no I don't
amen where's my brother no I don't man shame on me no that's all right you're
doing fine yes how many goals have you got out of seven nine how many goals oh
I
have nine or ten yeah you have and now where do you live do you still live in
Ireland I still live back home well what is your life like there what kind of a
place you have it's horrible I hate it I can't wait to get back I love it I do
nothing when I go home I finish work I haven't to push our pair slippers
anywhere
else I'm lucky enough to have a job where they put you up in a hotel you know
yourself I was nearly gonna touch again but anyway stop myself sure and I'll go
home and I'll just go to the pub have a few points talk a lot of crap when we
made same conversation for 12 years see a movie well that's that sounds that
sounds like you me now you know here and here in New York City they have all of
these Irish pubs they have like old Leary's and old Grady's and old boy and
whatever oh shut up yeah and and oh shut up are they anything like the true
Irish
public some of them are yes some of them are not the ones they do this thing
where
they take Irish pubs they put all the furniture in a boat or plane I don't have
jet ski it across the Atlantic I don't know but they bring it all across and
then
they build it in America and Canada wherever and those are the ones that
think of you know being very phony because there's like a wheelbarrow on the
wall and a barrel over there and a fiddle in the corner hey yeah but there are
some
people because especially in New York because the Irish contingent that lives
there the blue you know sure but really all you need is your buddies you're my
need is a bit of good chat man some good people you know a few points and you're
laughing absolutely doesn't get any better than that matter how much of this
you
have it never gets better yeah that's right now you've been working with some
in some great
projects and some really a bit like big famous actors it must be a thrill for
you right it is
because I was a fan before I was ever an actor for sure you know I mean I I
grew up on moonlighting and
yippie-ki-yay mother or and you know all the and Top Gun and Steven to ET was
the first thing I saw and I've got to work with some of
them boys what was it what was it like working with Bruce Willis now we've
known Bruce a
long time yeah I've never really you know done anything other than just chatted
with
him what did you guys do while you made the movie and worked got drunk played
danced
worked worked got drunk played dance just you know he works hard he's not I don't
know how he looks so well
I don't I don't I don't know but but anyway had a good time he was cool and a
lot of these people
you know the power is with them to intimidate you so if they're not being you
know mean about and want
to get into a pissing contest oh sorry if they don't want to do that well then
it's cool and you get
over your nerves quick enough you know the first time I worked with and Cruz
the other fellow Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise you work with Tom Cruise oh my god man because I forgot I'd met him
in Spielberg before we
shot and then I got to the set and then I looked in his eyes Spielberg shouted
action
nothing yeah but you get over they're okay they're good people yeah with Steven
Spielberg what did I
mean D what do you I mean you see that guy that's like you know what do you do
yeah you can't possibly
have a rapport with that man can you I mean yeah really he just called me and I
said I'm busy I'm
going on to Dave Letterman show so busy I mean he's so busy he's got his own
life but a really
decent skin you know it's really good I seem like a really good man and he can
tell a great story yeah
he's a great father you know it's a if you imagine having him as your dad oh it'd
be wonderful yeah
be wrecked like no aliens aliens everywhere ah close encounters I'm going to
bed dad shut up no next
chapter shut up you don't really need me out here do you I get verbal diarrhea
man I'm nervous I get
verbal diarrhea well the uh the movie opens up uh today I hope it's a big big
hit for you oh I love the
film yes I thought it was fantastic I thought it was great you know I was
really uh interesting oh
that's cool Dave very nice piece of work thanks a million nice to meet you

good luck to you and try to relax a little Colin Farrell we'll be right back
